Review my Photography Website

Been working on my new Photography website for the past 2 weeks and decided to launch it properly today.
I've never built a website before so had to learn from scratch. Had a bit of help from a couple friends whenever I ran into trouble.

    www.stephenpatersonphotography.com

I welcome any feedback, I'd like to know if people find it easy to navigate around etc. Response times for photos loading - too slow?
Not all the photos have have a blurb attached to them yet and the blog is empty.

    Thank you!

    I think it's a great website.

I like your logo. I like the simple clean design of your website. Your website has a lot of nice effects.

The only thing I found wrong was that when I went to your blog page (http://www.stephenpatersonphotography.com/category/blog/) I got a message "No Results Found" (Here's a screenshot: http://awesomescreenshot.com/0a71fxov27)

One other idea which isn't critical is to make it so that the menu shows what page you're on. Like if I'm on the bio page, the "Bio" button in the menu would be bold.

    Great work

i'm an amateur photographer myself, your website is excellent, and your photos are great. Las Vegas Strip just blew me away, words can't describe that photo.

Thanks for your feedback :) There's no Blogs on the site yet so that's why you're getting the message "No results found".
Good point about highlighting the current page the viewer is on, I'll definitely look into doing that.

The light grey text, especially on the right hand side, is hard to read. Up the contrast.

Put your address on the contact page for trust.

Move the captcha between the comments field and the submit buttons.

Put a sitemap on your 404 page.

Otherwise, a very good job, well done!

I'm not too sure about having my address on the site, I'll have a think about it.

I've moved the Captcha down, I'll need to look at the code and figure out how to move the Reset button beside the Submit button rather than on top of it.

I'll sort the 404 page, just need to see how to do that :)

Address is a matter of trust. If you are not for hire, it's not big deal.

You can safely dump the reset button as the form isn't long enough for significant resetting.

Good point, just removed it and it looks better. Cheers for the tip :)

Contact page comes as /contact-2/. Should be /contact/ really. Only a tiny issue but still.

    http://www.stephenpatersonphotography.com/contact-2/

The 404 page could be enhanced.

I like your site, its clean, easy to use and best of all has great photos :)

I'll look into changing the Contact URL.
I haven't got to grips yet with 404 pages so will need to read up on them.

Since you're using WP, I suggest you change the logo on the login page to your own (use a plugin). To change the contact url you might have a page with the slug contact there already in unpublished or in the trash, just permanently delete it and then try changing it on the page. For the 404 page it's probably under Appearance > Themes > Editor > On the right hand side there under Templates.

At first glance, it's appealing. I like the simplicity and cleanliness. So here are just a few bits & bobs of feedback

    - in the menu at the top-right. When I'm on the "Home" page the word Home" looks like an image, whereas the others are just text. It doesn't seem to match. Also when Bio is selected, its a different font
    - you have two menus, one at top-right and one at the bottom. They don't match
    - you have a mish-mash of fonts being used across the site. "Contact Me", the top menu when selected. the header of each page (looks like Comic Sans!!!), the font on the images on the home page. All different. I would standardise them.
    - the blog is empty. At least start with a couple of postings.
    - The Bio, Blog and Contact pages are left justified and are not the same width as the rest of the site. It's like you have space for another frame to the right, but it's a waste of acreage.
    - on the home page, there are visible frame borders all over the place
    - your home page needs a little more substance, without losing the simplicity. you only have three images and a piece of text saying "for questions & comments get in contact"

    hope this helps

Thanks for your feedback, I'll look into changing the WP Login Page. I had Pages in the Trash that I deleted and was able to change the Contact URL then along with a couple others.

    1. I've standarised the fonts, I add a Google font for the page headings but for some reason on some PC's it was showing as Comic Sans but in some browers showing as a nice script font. I've removed the Google font and it seems to be ok now on all browers.
    2. The footer menu has the same menu's as the main menu apart from the Gallery page, I need to do something with that as it's populating the page with what appears to be random images.
    3. I've standardised the fonts except when a page is selected the page name in the menu turn italics and looks like Serif font, it should just turn bold.
    4. I hope to put up a couple of blog posts shortly, I wanted to tweak the site first.
    5. There's a sidebar on the right side on the Bio, Blog and Contact pages with a Search box, Recent Posts and Recent Comments. I've set the Bio page to a Full-Width Page but without the right sidebar the page looks too short.
    6. Are you talking about the thin black line directly below the Facebook and Twitter icons? I'm looking into getting them removed as I didn't like them. I've also got rid of the black shadow effect on the left and right of the page.
    7. I'll have a think about your idea for the homepage.
    Thanks for your feedback :)
