Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You could also try nail polish remover (acetone) on a cloth but be very, very careful with it! Don’t let it near any plastic trim or rubber and try an inconspicuous area of the window first in case it takes anything off the window that you won’t want it to.

    Hi guys,
The car had its 1st NCT and I'd to remove the tint from the front 2 windows :(. The window was left with a lot of residual glue. I used CarPro Tar remover to take the glue off, unless I was doing something stupid, it didn't really do the magic. is there another way to clean the window?

What you need is HG sticker remover. You can thank me later ;)

    Hot soapy water....

Couldn't get the HG sticker remover. Tried the hot water with washing powder and it worked. Thanks.

The finished product after a wash, IPA wipedown and 2 coats of C2V3:

That E60 in the background is the one I did the other enhancement on recently:

The exterior glass got Gtechniq G1 and the black trim received a coat of Gtechniq C4.

Thankfully the alloys will be sent to Rim Solutions for a full refurb.

    What a beauty MM!!

If you could, would love to see some photos of the interior?

It needs black/silver plates..... Would really look well on it.

I'm afraid that since I didn't do any work on the interior I don't have any pics. The car is now back in the owner's shed with a cover on it :(

I said that to him and he's considering it. I think either those or normal pressed plates.

First proper wash (by me) and took the opportunity to throw some coats of bilt hamber hydra wax. Looks great.

Two bucket with sonax wash which I got recently decided to give it a try, happy enough with it. Snow foam was bilt hamber.

Didn't clay, although some spots do need it as I discovered when waxing, just some stubborn dirt but didnt go and fix it as I was too far in and couldn't be bothered :P Next time!

Didn't get the wheel wells either which is disappointing but very hard to access on it and also need to invest in some more cloths etc for wheels and waxing.

Also threw some wax on the alloys, looks great discovered some weird scuffy marks on them in places in the corners may be stubborn dirt looks like it or someone took some bad washing gear to them before will try clay on them next time. I'm sure the wax on them wont last very long but it looks great on the gloss black

Happy with the overall results Im sure it will lash rain tonight now!

Does look great, however, why have you waxed over your recently applied ceramic coating. You've immediately negated some of the properties that such a coating would offer. Mainly the hydrophobic properties meaning it wont stay as clean for as long, nor will it be quite as easy to clean in a few weeks.

    Nice machine...say it's a great drive!!

I was under the impression / told you can wax over the ceramic coating without issue, just adds a bit of shine too it ceramic coating is still intact

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

Well you can. But it negates certain aspects. It wont affect the coating. It will remain intact but water wont react in the same way as it would on just the ceramic. Water will now be interacting with the wax as opposed to the coating. The protection the ceramic offers wont be comprised.

Also forgot to mention in the previous post; there should be no need to clay the car for at least 6 months. There wont be any bonded contamination build up to remove so soon after a full decontamination, polish and protection.

Get some carpro Dlux for the wheels as well, makes life so much easier.
If the wheel wells/inner arches are hard plastic, then prepare those as well and coat them with the Dlux.
    Lovely car.

I'd imagine that's a full days work is it vectra? What do you use to clean the wheels? I've used tar x on mine but there's still black spots on them that won't clear up.

    IronX
    Bilt hamber Auto wheel.
As far as memory serves me I did mine in about 5 hours on the passat,
Granted they were new, but same prep was done.

Would this be a good product for brand new wheels?
Getting a new car in the next few weeks and want to get some protection on them straight away, spending far too long trying to get baked on brake dust off atm

Yes, also recommend not let the dealer clean the car or better still leave plastic wrap on if possible and get a proper paint protection on it.

    Cheers thanks,
I’m relatively new to the whole detailing thing but I’ve been studying (youtube) and buying some products testing them out on the current car, so far I’ve got Auto fineness Iron Out, clay bar and glide, Car pro eraser
Still need to pick up some car pro hydro 2 lite and reload as well too
Would that be a decent start protection wise for a newbie? I’m thinking I shouldn’t need to polish a new car?

    What is it?

If it's something you want to stay looking good for longer then a full decontamination would be needed even from new and never driven as it will have all sorts of crap bonded to it from parked up to transportation.

I would suggest going a ceramic coating also as it's so much less work and once done right and treated right the car will look so well.

Detailers provide this service imo well worth the money as it will protect from swirls and light scratch etc....

  • Registered Users Posts: 99 ✭✭ChuckLarry

    It’s a golf.

    And yes the plan was,

    1. Full wash, snow foam, 2 bucket method etc.
    2. Decontamination using Iron Out and clay bar
    3. IPA wipe down using car pro eraser
    4. Ceramic using car pro hydro2 lite
    5. Extra protection/ quick detail using car pro reload.

I’m opting for a spray on spray off DIY ceramic coating as i don’t know if I have the experience to go for the real thing.

Was planning to do it myself rather than leave it in somewhere as I’m actually enjoying the process of doing it as a hobby and also the funds will be a bit lower after buying the car

Was thinking I would do the above once or twice and get a few months protecting then see about leaving it in to somewhere like spirit detailing for a spruce up and professional ceramic etc.

I started into another big bloody job of work, a new Burstner motorhome. This is it just after delivery.

    Motorhome-1.jpg?dl=1

First job was to feck off for a weekend or three to get to know it.

Then, yesterday I started into it. It started with a snowfoam wash with Bilt Hamber Auto-Foam, 2BM wash with Bilt Hamber Auto-Wash, dried and shoved into the garage. Wheels were washed with Bilt Hamber Auto-Wheel, an application of Korrisol and dried before shoving into the Garage.

Now tonight I went over the wheels with CarPro Eraser, wiped down and left to flash off (Grand cuppa was had!). Then the wheels got a coat of Gtechniq C5 wheel guard (I went shopping in DnD detailing) as I hate the way the brake dust dulls the gloss black wheels. The Ducato can produce a lot of brake dust. I know I cheated by not taking the wheels off but it's a fat ba$tard to jack up......

    Wheel-1.jpg?dl=1

CarPro PERL 1:3 in water was then put on external plastics and I called it a night.

    The saga continues tomorrow night.......

Reflect autocare in ballycoolin stock a decent range of Car Pro stuff

Not everything they have is displayed on their website so dropping in may be better if your living in Dublin, although if you rang and asked what they have I’m sure they’d sort you out they’re decent chaps

Doing my Lexus this panel by panel every evening! I clayed and deterred at the weekend so all I need is the machine polisher...

I am using Menzerna medium cut polish with the blue pad which is excellent! The paint has no swirling to start with only a few scratches but the difference is amazing!

I felle like I'll have to do my car panel by panel. If I do the whole car, I'll rush it, and I don't have the time either work/kids/sleep/etc.
Might start of on the boot lid first, as it probably has the least amount of scratches(or so you would think).

Loads of words, mostly random in nature....

We'll, I'm making progress. I got one coat of CarPro Reload on half the machine last night!

I gave it a light claying with DnD medium clay and/or CarPro clay cloth (I can't think of the name) with CarPro Immolube. It was wiped down with CarPro Eraser. That was one night. Then the Reload was applied. I've got a small list of jobs left on it (finish the Reload, glass, windows, etc).

Next on the hit list is another motorhome but there's a small problem. It's a fraction (1metre) too long to fit into the Garage and I'm almost out of Reload.

@FN, I may call Saturday Morning for an alternative to the Reload. That van also has some sun bleached plastics I want to bring back. Months in the Spanish Sun doesn't help.

    Well, I'm finished finally..............

The white one was finished off with CarPro Reload, CarPro PERL 1:1 on the tyres and PERL 1:5 on the plastic windows. Underbonnet, suspension arms etc were done with BH Surfix 1:3, wiped down and then CarPro PERL 1:3 applied. It was then shoved back into the garage....

    Photo_-5.jpg?dl=1

    Photo_.jpg?dl=1

Attention then turned to the other motorhome. That was tackled in the same way with the same materials but the initial wash was done during the week and a quick wash/dry before starting was done Saturday morning. The only difference was that the inside of the back windows were lightly misted with water and cleaned with a fluffy microfiber (I wasn't going near them with any chemicals). It was finished off quite late Sunday.........

    Photo_-2.jpg?dl=1

    Photo_-3.jpg?dl=1

Each got one coat of Reload and that's now empty. Ah well, an excuse to go shopping.

Apologies for the crap photos but I wasn't moving them into the front to get a "nice" photo for you all.

Hoping for some advice here please - picking up a new R-line Tiguan Allspace on Saturday in Limerick and I'd like to get a paint/ wheel protection coat on it before I drive it home - Premier Detailing in Limerick look to get good reviews. Before I chat to them I'd like to have some idea of what the best options are, would need to be done in the same day or at worst case drop it in on Saturday and pick it up on Sunday if it needs time to set/ dry/ cure. I've had a read through this thread but still a bit lost. Thanks :)

Misses asked why this was still around and not in the bin / recycled. My horrified self informed her it's a work of art that will be turned into a table / mount.

    YR6Aacp.jpg
Took the opportunity before the tyre was mounted to apply some wax / sealant. The carpro didn't arrive from detailing she'd yet :( so used 2 coats of hydrawax from bilt hamber then a 3rd of finished wax. Don't expect it to last too long but until the carpro stuff arrives it will do.

Give it another wash over the weekend for cars and coffee, might get the other alloy repaired just some scuffing to it

Spit shine for cars and coffee. Decided to put some tyre shine on (McGuire's) wasn't sure about it before but happy with it looks well. Threw some onto the trim as well and looks great. Shame the new grille isn't on for tomorrow.

3 buckets, sonax gloss shampoo, bilt hamber snow foam with some of their shampoo mixed in. Rinsed, foamed, rinsed, then x2 washes and dry section at a time. Wheels were done first separately just washed once then dried at the end of the wash. McGuire's tyre shine applied to tyres and trim.

Have the Irish reg plates (for a while ) but haven't put them on quite like how the UK plates look very clean or something. The current plates are stuck on, sticky pads at the front which are very sticky. Will take a hairdryer to it and some remover stuff when I get the backing for my plates.

Rear is reallllly stuck on. Must have been a liquid adhesive. Not sure how I'll tackle that.

My plates don't have any backing so have ordered ones off eBay as didn't want to have metal plates scratching up the paint.

There are screw holes (covered ATM) up the front for a reg plate but nothing on the back afaik, unless under the plate. Don't really want to screw was just gonna use some sticky pads any tips? They're pressed metal plates.

One or two of the wheels have these funny marks on them in the corners mostly, but in other parts too. Hard to describe, not rough but can definitely feel them, almost seems scratched / marred to ****e by someone cleaning them before or left over sealant from something.

Some smaller marks buffed off today during washing but have a feeling that may have been was residue from when I did it. Might try take a hand polish / cleaner to it next time and see if there's any effect. Any ideas what it could be? Gloss wheels so new one for me.

Fishing wire or similar and go up and down while sliding around the rear of the plate.

    What a smashing motor
I used double sided industrial tape and on the car over 9 years.

  • Registered Users Posts: 458 ✭✭Parapara2017

Fishing wire save the paint? Any need for some heat? Kinda figured the heat (As much heat as a hairdryer will generate...) would help with cleaning up left over residue.

Yeah some double sided tape or pads i think is the way i'll go. Hopefully doesn't do anything to the paint.

Beast of a motor. Its just an absolute bastard for picking up rock chips and today I discovered its just as bad for picking up little rock chips on the windscreen...

Yesterday I did some work on the Leon (it was massively overdue)............

    Photo%20%20%281%20of%2020%29.jpg?dl=1

    The process was
    • Rinse down to get the loose dirt
    • Snowfoamed with BH AutoFoam & rinsed
    • Snowfoamed again (it was VERY dirty!)
    • 2BW with BH Auto-Wash
    • Wheel arch liners, etc were coated with BH Surfix and worked in with various brushes. Rinsed off.
    • The sides & rear of the car below the window line were dried as well as the front bumper
    • Two applications of CarPro Tar-X and rinsed off (Geez that's great tack!)
    • A misting of BH Korrisol was applied and left to react. The boot door was the worst for the purple. Rinsed off.
    • Next was claying with a mix of DnD Detailing clay, CarPro ClayCloth and CarPro Immolube. Note to self, never start claying with the boot door. I started there and it was so bad I had to throw the clay out immediately after one panel!
    • The car was foamed again, rinsed down and re-washed using the 2BW
    • Dried with a Cry-me-Crazy. The car was finally clean.
    • LUNCH!
    • The panels were wiped down with CarPro Eraser and then IPA. I left it then about 30 minutes for the IPA residues to flash off.
    • Two coats of Gtechniq C2V3 were applied with about 3 hours between coats

The wheels were also done as above (washed with BH AutoWheels and then as above, detarred, clayed, etc) and they got a coating of Gtechniq C5. As I had to keep the wheels dry overnight and "something" was in the garage, I built up boxes from corriboard to keep then dry. Tyres were dressed with CarPro PERL 1:1 water.

While waiting for the second coating of C2V3 to be applied, I tackled the engine with BH surfix 1:3 in water to clean and dressed with CarPro PERL 1:3 in water. The external trims also got a coating of CarPro PERL 1:3 water.

    Wheels complete..........

Yes I know the dark accents in the wheel are not showing up that well in the photo. It was late when I finished and I used my phone for the photos. I wasn't breaking out the SLR to get decent snaps

The residue that came off the bonnet. That piece of clay then went into the bin.

    Smashing job as always....

I really need to get an outside tap sorted on my new home.

No outside tap = no wash....
