Today I did some detailing...

So I got around to giving the motor a nice wash on Saturday. Looked like it was about to rain at any stage, so in haste, I forgot to take any before pictures, but the car was covered in a thick layer of dirt/dust, and the wheels badly soiled in brake dust and dirt.

So firstly, gave the car a good wash using the 2BM, using some AutoGlym shampoo I already had lying around. Cleaned the wheels using Bilt Hamber Auto Wheels, which did a great job of disolving the brake dust and dirt, giving a great purple bleeding affect in the process. Being a white car, it shows up every little mark, so I gave the bottom half of the car a good spray of Tar Remover, rinsed and went over it again with 2BM. I then fully dried the car, and used some OA Perfection, which i found to be a great product, real easy to use, and left a nice shine. Then dressed the tyres using AutoGlym instant tyre dressing, and gave the windows a clean firstly with some windowlene, then polished on top of that with some AutoGlym glass polish. A quick hover inside, and I was done!

Just saw the neighbours having a go at cleaning their car. They arrived out armed with a basin of water, a bottle of Cif, a large bottle of Domestos Bleach and two pot scrubbers.

They proceeded to pour the Cif over the car and scrub it with the pot scrubber, really working it in around the windows, door gaps etc. They then washed it with the bleach and rinsed it with half a basin of water. They proceeded to tidy up and head in happy.

I was shocked that somebody could attack a car like that but now I know why the paint is always dull. Just God help anybody who touches the car or any pet that walks where it was washed from the bleach that was poured everywhere.

Oh, yes it was their car as they drove away in it later.

There are some really shocking washing techniques out there, but that just about tops it! Would love to mask out a square on one of the panels and re-correct it!

It was an '02 to '05 Opel Corsa in a rather fetching green/blue. Is it worth exposing yourself to sodium hypochlorite without protection?

Every car deserves to be given a bit of TLC - after a few hours work, doing the whole car, it'd double the value of it

:eek: Holy Feck! Not suprised the paint has dulled after potscrubbers and Cif.
Would bleach fade the paint after prolonged use?

You'd be fine taking a hose to it - if you were really worried, I might wear some eye protection.

Did a day-long wash/clean (about 6 hours or so) yesterday. Started off with giving the wheels a blast of Bilt Hamber auto wheel and rinse. Then some snow foam of Meguairs Hyperwash and CG Mr Pink mix, rinsed and dried the bottom half for the tar cleanse (OAC), left that sit for a few minutes and rinsed. A quick spray of iron cleanse from OAC and left to sit for a few minutes before rinsing. Once rinsed, i used a small amount of autobrite clay and a solution of mr pink and water for a lubricant, not much was taken off (which is good although once i was laying on the protection/polish i had a few bits of tar that I missed because its hard to spot on a black car)

I then washed the car using the 2BM with CG Mr Pink, and using the Microfiber madness incredimitt. Rinsed and dried using the Microfiber madness drying towel. While i waited for someone to move their car so i can continue my work in the shade, i applied the OAC tyre glitz tyre dressing, along with some CG Wheel guard which i have found to be one of the best alloy wheel protectors.

With the car moved into the shade, it was time to apply some AG SRP, followed by some EGP and finally some of the best wax in production Collinite 845.

Now i had used OAC hydrophobe on the windows, but as the sun was beating down it had left water marks on the windows, so i had to use some AG Fast Glass to finish the windows off to leave it looking spec and shiny.











Ow my hip was sore after that....:D

Always love seeing your pics McLove! Seeing your front bumper reinforces the need for me to get mine re-sprayed, there's quite an abundance of tiny white chips on it.

Ya most other dark colour mondeos have some form of paint chipping clearly visible on the bumper anyway, must be a flaw or badly sprayed or something.

Ya that's true alright, but these chips (ones on the bumper) don't really seem like stone chips, just where the paint "came off", if you want a better word. I'll throw a pic up of mine one of the days. Could be from stones, maybe I'm wrong. (most likely :pac:)

Great job on the Mondeo Mclove. Looks beautiful. As for stone chips, my car may have driven too close to a Roadstone truck by its previous owner. As a result i have stone chipped bonnet, bumpers, pillars n wings.

Today I washed my ca with a mix of
apc-Fairy Liquid- Traffic film remover.
Clayed the full car even though it was machine polished only 5 weeks ago
Repeated the wash as above

The proceeded to put a coat of Wolf's Full Moon.

Mother of god is this stuff hard.. LOL

I thought my arms would fall off by the time I had it applied.


Buffing was easy though. I will certainly try the rotary on slow speed next time to spread the wax,

I went out there a little while ago and under the street lights the car appears to be super glossy.

Might try another coat tomorrow and get a few pics up.

Though I would habe thought I would have beem a bit easier to apply. That said, they are durable waxes so there's probably going to be a bit of work in applying it.

Yes,
I spoke with Jesse last night and he said this is how it was designed and why it is so durable.
He also said it is the hardest of the 3 waxes but none of the other 2 give shine as good, nor would be as durable.

The info a few pages back on how to remove the bugs worked a treat. Bought a snow foam Lance this morning especially.

So it was a blast of the hose, snow foam, hose, wet towels, 2BM, detar a few spots again and then another blast of the hose.

Quick coat of 845 and it was done.

Found some Wolfs Body wrap I bought 4 years ago,in my shed today.
Decided to try it on the E60 after a bit of polishing with the ep801 rotary and some wolfs Polishes,
Happy with the results.

Now to get on the Detailingshed site and order some Hardbody and other Wolfs Products.

The more of these products I use the more I love using them.

Put on megs tire shine with a cloth, result wasn't great, bit patchy. Went over it with the stuff on a sponge and it looked much better. I suppose what I'm getting at is what's the best way of applying it?

Leave to settle/Soak
wipe excess with cloth or it will fling averywhere.

The Primera was looking a bit worse for wear so I gave it a wash and then a coat of Auto Balm. The ability of that stuff to hide scratches it amazing! I always feel like I'm cheating when I use it :pac: I got it very cheap when clean car had their sale on too

It's a dirty Diesel in mine unfortunately! 373,000 miles on mine now and the engine is still great! Body rust is letting it down now, not many years left in it without some proper work being done.

It's actually an MR2 not an S. Form the north originally and it's my dads not mine

Sweet - must give them a try - hae a hairdressing rep but meant to be seriously good fun to drive..and we all know hairdressers cant handle mid engines :P

On the rust just try and slow it down - the bilt hamber stuff is great - some dunax s50 cavity wax should sort it.

2 coats of srp on a recently bought 97 A4 Avant quattro. Looks like brand new. Leaving it overnight and gonna break out the extra gloss protection tomorrow and seal that newness in.

I think that would be too little too late for my Primera. The previous owner (seemed very honest, maybe there was more that he wasn't telling me!!) said that the sills were repaired with fiberglass a few years ago for the NCT because there were holes in them. The boot floor was fixed at the sides with stainless steel sheet, bathroom sealant and stone chip! Before that you could see into the boot from under the car apparently :P. The strut towers at the front are rotten now too. It still drives and handles absolutely perfect! Better than some "100,000 mile" cars I've driven. Body is still very ridged too despite the rust

Just a quick going over this time. A wash, dry, light application of Autoglym rapid detailer, tyre dressing, glass clean and a buff with a lambswool mitt. It was just to bring up the car after the last lot of work that was done.





The worst thing is that it isn't even my car!
