Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Funny Curran but the window was clean, had just rained and the street light caught it, looks bad but it wasn't dirty!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,854 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

I don't believe you. Just admit it....you washed the whole car except for the windscreen.

Lovely car, but what is the deal with those side skirts? Last time I saw such poorly integrate skirts was on a 1980's E28!

De-tarred the car before going to Kerry for a few days.. Roads were absolutely shocking there.

This is only part of the car after I washed it.. Destroyed.

    Is she a BMW F10? :)

I got to play with this E36 today.

    zhRdsUA.jpg

Nothing too intensive, just a hand 'Polish' and wax.

The wetter than wet look in the rain while I got wet myself.

Interior was grubby so I gave it a quick rubby

That 323i is a cracking machine - was so tempted to buy it when it was for sale last time out!

They don't make them like this anymore, I starting to think cars build quality has dropped

Is it the lighting or did the boot carpet go from yellow to grey???

Funny you should say that about the E36, early quality on them was very poor, they got better later into their cycle, but it was never one of BMW's best efforts.

Dog had it ruined with hair N grime/slobber but ya I guess the sun was in for that shot.

Was that directed at me? I know it is - but its a 323i

My interior could do with a good valet, hmmmmmmm! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,088 ✭✭✭JAMES VTI S

Won't that make it a 325? Or am. I missing something

323i and 325i are the same basic engine but the 325i would have small changes like bigger injectors, longer stroke etc.

And bigger bore, I though the last two numbers represent the engine capacity in liters.

    nope.

    BMW E46 320 ci = 2.2 engine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,480 ✭✭✭YbFocus

    323 was a 2.5 with a more restrictive exhaust,
It was the 325 but it was restricted to not affect 328 sales as far as i know.

I changed the restrictive exhaust for the 328 one, which is the same engine with a larger stroke and it was a different machine.

    It's like the 340 now, it's a 3 litre.
Or a 535d is a 3 litre with an extra turbo etc.

    Doesn't always correspond!

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,381 ✭✭✭vintagevrs

    And the 330 is a 4 pot 2l. Just isn't right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,088 ✭✭✭JAMES VTI S

Well fudge it anyway... Just when your happy thinking you know a bit about BMW.

Only 500km on the car but with the weather over the last week the car needed a clean. So today was as good a day as any. Some photos are stuck in the cloud and I'm not able to upload them, but they are just the results after drying.

Using 2BM and lambs wool mitt to wash off, and the results (well before I got the microfibre towels out)

Only picture that would download and upload with the dry me crazy towel (I did dry it honestly :))

The beading you see on the car is from a product called Gardx. The garage applied this to the car, and to be honest made a dogs dinner of it. Sections of the car where the rear bumper and 1/4 panel meet you can see residue from the product never cleaned. This happens in a number of spots around the car.

At the moment I'm still undecided as to which coating if any to apply. But will be looking to do it towards the end of the month so will post something in due course.

I was busy over the weekend (but no pics as I was too busy). First was the new motorhome. That was washed with AG Shampoo with the 2BM. The fun was the height, and the fact that parts of the roof that were hard to reach were never washed (eg under the awning, around the skylights, etc). The small wheel woolies brush was a godsend for them awkward corners. The wheels were done with Bilt Hamber Autowheels and dried with a Dry-me-Crazy. Plenty of ladders, crates, etc needed for access. Next step is to clay and two coats of Collinite.

Yesterday my Seat and the Father's Skoda had a snowfoam with 50cal Ambush foam, left to stand for 15 to 25 minutes, rinsed, washed with AG Shampoo using 2BM and dried with the Dry-me-Crazy. Wheels were Bilt Hamber Autowheels and Orchard Tyre glitz. Glass (inside and outside) was AG Fast Glass and that was used on the dash also.

TL/DR. Started into one vehicle, got step one complete, two others got a clean.

The worst part is that I now consider a snowfoam, rinse, 2BM wash, dry, wheels & tyres and glass inside & out a clean rather than a detail!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

But sure that's all it is....a good clean! ;)

Two buckets, snow foam, wheels cleaned with chemical guys, 50Cal on the glass, 50Cal Pentawax still giving a nice deep shine (waxed last August/Sept I think). I don't get to clean my car anywhere near as much as I used to be able to but what a pleasurable experience it is. I don't play golf but I'd imagine it feels similar :P

    Hi folks,
Washed the car yesterday. Noticed this on one if my alloys. Is it peeling or some kind of gunk? Would it come off with a specialised cleaner?

    Cheers,
    Mick

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,381 ✭✭✭vintagevrs

That looks like"white worm". Its corrosion that can happen that type of alloy wheel. Your wheels are diamond cut and this can happen them. It's Not possible to clean it. Only a refurb will sort it and because the wheels are diamond cut its a specialised job. Is that a crv? How old is it? If the wheels were not damaged it could be a warranty job.

It's a civic tourer 1.5 years old.. Worth a chat to Honda garage? These are actuality my winter wheels.. Have a second set of alloys and tyres for summer.. These are the original alloys came with car.
    Cheers,
    Mick

I would speak to Honda if they are that new.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,854 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

With those type of alloys they are first fully painted and then the face is diamond cut and the whole wheel is then lacquered. Whiteworm is when water gets underneath the lacquer layer and causes that.

All 4 of the wheels on my F30 had this and they were all replaced under warranty.

BMW wouldn't have a facility to do that to a uniform standard under warranty. I'd imagine it's easier to give a new set and take the old set back to the factory and refinish them properly.
