Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Gave the combi a wash/dry and a second coating of Gtechniq C2V3.
That should see it sealed up fort a few months.

Hard to show shine on silver but it is not looking too bad at all for the little amount of work involved.

What mix ratio did you use?

You could use a very strong mixture without issue....provided its not regular usage.
    1:1:1:1...APC : Fairy : Snowfoam : Water

Obviously thats overkill on the Fairy....but through a lance....
Using your regular amount of snowfoam
3 times that amount of APC
    1/4 the amount for Fairy
    Topped up with water!

Used to use Magifoam and APC to help remove wax before claying as I found Magifoam stripped the wax I usually use.

So today I took the seats out and gave the carpet and mats a thorough deep clean. Pictures don't show much because really, it wasn't that dirty at all. Just dust and a few spots here and there. Looks much fresher now.

    Before:

    qel8.jpg

    After:

    ijqu.jpg

Then I got out the Iron Cleanse and did the alloys. They haven't been done since I applied the Gtechniq C1. These pics are of the rear wheel as I forgot to take pics of the front but the 2 fronts were worse when it comes to brake dust.

    Before:

Bleeding out the Iron and contaminants:

After light and gentle agitation with a soft alloy wheel brush:

Car "professionally" washed, detared, clayed and polished during the week. Snow foamed yesterday and laid down a coat of Collinite 476s. Today it got a second coat of Collinite, glass cleaned with professional glass cleaner and rain-x. 3 1/2 hours work over the 2 days. Shiny enough for ya?

Nothing much only a winter protection on my sons E46
Not much time spend on the DA as I would have liked to but got a good few swirls etc. out of it.

    Usual wash

Paint was prepped last week using a combo of
Wolfs "The Correctional Utility" on an orange Hex pad which gave good results for the time spent on it.

Finished with Wolfs "The Jeweler" on Hex Black pad

    Car was washed again

2 coats of Gtechniq C2V3 applied and left for a week

Yesterday car was washed again and topped with

2 coats of Collinite 845 and one coat of Britemax Vantage

Tyres were treated with Wolfs Blackout.

Wheels were left as new tyres going on soon and want to do a wheels off job on them

Windscreen was re-treated with repellant. ( No idea what it is as it is a sample I got )

Interior was hoovered and rinsed with a solution of apc and warm water.
Leather was treated with the Glyptone twins.

Windows were cleaned with Einszett Windscreen Clear Glass Cleaner

Did not get much time to grab a few pics as it belted down rain and he had to head away.

Not looking too shabby I think :)

Fecking tree sap! Just after washing/cleaning the car and as soon as I'm finished, sap on the windows!
Started off rinsing, did a snow foam, still haven't got it right, rinse again. Only have the one bucket but have a grit guard. Washed with AGS, then rinsed. Used orchard autocare wheel cleanse. Windows were a mix of rain x and AG polish. Waxed two coats of meguairs wax. Hoovered and cockpit cleaned. Waxed wheels too

Rained in between coats but I didnt get a picture of the beading but it was fairly epic

I know I know, I have been meaning to get an extra one for some time! More importantly I got it washed and cleaned while the dog was out eating everything in sight!

I started a full treatment yesterday on a car that's only ever seen a brush (not by me!): two bucket wash, dry, de-tar, clay, wash, dry, followed by SRP. As luck would have it, after 4 hours, it started lashing just as I was buffing off. Oh well, some nice beading ensued:

    OEm9BuS.jpg

Went back out this morning and I am fairly impressed with the result. It's still a bit swirly at night under artificial light, but I can't justify a DA considering the price of the car.

Hopefully I can get back out in a day or two to get some EGP and tyre dressing on, and do the windows...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

Make sure to get EGP on it, or the SRP will just wash away. It might be best to give it a quick coat of SRP before the EGP to help fill more of the swrils.

Aside from that, it looks great as it stands! Fair play! ;)

Also, Dougie, I expected to see a trail bike being cleaned :D

Whatever way they're making that stuff lately it's leaving marks all over the mother's car. I don't use it anymore because of EXO but I switched to Meguiar's Last Touch detailer before that and found that much better. It lasts longer and leaves a much better shine.

Thanks Dave, I did not know that. I read on some other forums that guys were using just SRP with no sealant, so I figured there was no panic. I'll be back out with the SRP and EGP tomorrow so :D

They tend to get a very quick blast of a power washer rather than any special treatment :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

A few coats of EGP and the quick blast of the power washer will be slightly more effective! ;)
But most of all the SRP is locked in, helping to hide a few of the swirls!!

The 845 will last you years.
I have my bottle around 2 years and still have about 1/4 left. I have done 3 cars over and over again with regular topups and repetitive stripping resealing.

Trust me, you would love the stuff it is so easy to use and lasts so long.

It is but build it up slowly. Maybe one month buy a good wax, the next month but a good wash mit etc.
That way it doesn't feel so bad!

    +1

I got a tin of Colinite 476 (same stuff essentially) from Curran last month. €20 a tin but should last for 20+ applications. At the rate it's meant to last, that's 5 years of waxing doing 2 coats at a time. A well waxed car just needs a blast of snow foam to remove the dirt. Sure beats paying €7 in the local garage to drag a dirty brush over your paintwork.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I didn't want to create a new thread for it so I figured I'd just ask all you detailing wizards :D

Would it be possible to use an angle grinder to polish a car if you stuck a polishing head on it, or would it be too hard/fast and destroy the paintwork?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,748 ✭✭✭rolexeagle1

Dont do this, Polishers need to have variable speed. Angle Grinders(most) do not have this.

    You will destroy the paintwork.

i got a karcher in woodies for around €50, surprisingly underwhelming. wouldn't bother imo. much better off with a spray bottle of APC and a few nice brushes.

DO NOT use an angle grinder!!

A rotary polisher will max out at approx 3000rpm with variable speed control and rarely necessary to use it at that speed. An angle grinder will spin 8000+rpm
