Contactless is a quick, easy and secure way to pay for items up to €15 and is now available on Visa Debit cards that have the contactless symbol on them.

There are over 6,000 contactless terminals now connected in some of Ireland's leading retailers, including Arnotts, Marks and Spencer's, Insomnia, Boots and McDonalds. It's ideal for those quick coffee or grocery stops when you're not carrying cash!

For more information including details on how to use the cards, visit here

Have you tried it yet? Let us know how you found it?

When was the last time you spent less than €15 in a shop?

Yes you will spend less than €15 in your local shop, but none of these have contactless payments, if fact many of these will have a sign saying there is a charge for using a visa debit for less than €10

Very seldom if every you walk into M&S or Arnotts and spend less than €15

So its pretty much pointless using it. Can understand why you have waved the fees for using it for another year as you will have done your sums and know it will be another year or so before it takes off as there is few places that have it so your customers aren't using the service. Its nice to include in your press releases no charges for contactless payments trying to take away from all the other changes in charges you have brought in.

    Thanks.

Are there no fees for the retailer too?
A lot of retailers refuse cards for small amounts because of fees.

    That's kind of nonsense.
I've made request to get a new BOI debit card in Limerick branch earlier this year and I received regular debit visa card without contactless option.
Anyway, as far I can see only MCDonalds accept such contactless payments

    Hi littlejp,

    Thanks for getting in touch.

We don't have information on what charges a retailer would pay for processing card payments. This would be between themselves and the merchant services company they have their card terminal with. Unfortunately, we have no control over limits individual retailers set for accepting card transactions.

Linda and myself have used contactless on a number of occasions and we've found it really quick and easy to use.

    Thanks
    Tara
