Still cant get my head around why a certain list of races cant be discussed whether they good or bad. Boards are worried about getting sued because someone points out a good or bad thing about a race? Have to say its ridiculous. One just has to look at the Aaron Hernandez thread in the American football forum to see there is no consistency across boards. NFL player just charged with murder. If something was shi* about a race why cant we express it here. Its not defamation if it’s the truth and can be proved so no?

I will admit I am finding Voldemorts silence on the matter outlining refunds and his recent race quiet amusing. If it was Triathlon ireland in the crosshairs he would be screaming blue murder

I think that its a case of you not being fully informed. Sent you an email but in a nutshell. Its not done to protect boards, its done to protect you - the poster.

Would be worth reading the apology to Matt Coughlan again.

That all make sense in theory but the theory and the practice are two different things. How would you feel about a race organiser ringing you in work to threaten you with legal action about a statement you made about his or her race, irrespective of its merits?

    The reason is pretty simple...

The race organiser in question did not appreciate the negative feedback a race of his received in 2011.

He first contacted and threatened Boards as a company with legal action, then phoned up each individual that posted the comments in the thread (The method in which he acquired their contact details is no doubt something the Data Protection Commissioner would be interested in), he threatened them with legal action if they did not remove the posts.

To cap it off he also phoned up the posters employers and accused them of allowing the posters to defame him on company time... and threatened to sue them also (for good measure).

As a result.. Boards is unable to allow negative feedback on his races to be posted (Legal cases, as the race director himself found out, go on a long time and are costly... even if Boards was to win). With this in mind.. if nothing bad can be posted we have decided nothing good can be posted either... so there is no discussion allowed.

There was a case in the US in the last couple of months, a legal scam.

A bunch of lawyers were sending letters to people saying that computer records indicated that they had downloaded copyrighted porn. Either you paid up (for breach of copyright) or you would be sued. The lawyers set their fee low enough that the victims knew it would cost more to clear their names in court, and besides, you don't want your friends, family, and employers to see your name and "in court for downloading porn" in the same sentence, do you?

Sometimes it doesn't matter if you're right, and it doesn't matter if you can prove that you're right, what matters is the amount of **** you have to go through on the way.
