Back five picks itself, maybe a new striker for Ade.
Expect Holtby to have a big season, could alternate with Dembele.
Carroll might get some game time with Sandro.
Very versatile group of midfielders now, when was the last time we heard that around WHL!

Our midfield is ridiculously strong, probably the strongest in the league. We're only 2 players short from a title-challenging team imo, a no. 10 like Cazorla, Kagawa, Mata or Silva, and the obvious, a 25 goal a season striker.

At the moment there's 2 teams capable of winning the league, United and Chelsea. Arsenal are still a few players short, and Chelsea, like ourselves, need a top class striker.

If Levy and co. are on the ball for the next 5 weeks we can assemble an extremly strong squad.

Yeah when you look at Kaboul, Vertz, Sandro, Paulinho, Dembele, Chadli and Bale we have a seriously atheltic, fast and physical side.. Explosive!

We were saying similar things at the start of last season.

Though I don't agree that it's the strongest in the league. City, on paper, have the strongest midfield in the PL - Toure, Jovetic, Fernandino, Navas, Milner, Barry, Silva, Nasri and Javi Martinez.

Off paper, Man Utd are League Champions so their midfield ain't too bad, if you add Fabregas to that they'll be very good. Finally, Chelsea, under Mourinho, will be tactically formidable as well as full of quality on the pitch - Mata, Oscar, Hazard, Lampard, Ramires, van Ginkel - being anchored by Essien (remember him?) and Mikel.

This season I think it will be the 'X Factor' (for want of a better term) that will separate the men from the boys. I feel it could be the most competitive season in my living memory.

we lost vdv and luka last year.

When are squad numbers usually confirmed?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,913 ✭✭✭Ormus

we lost vdv and luka last year.

Dembele was a great replacement for Luka though, and Bale kinda took the role of link between midfield and attack vacated by VdV.

Our biggest loss last year was without a doubt Sandro.

wouldnt be surprised if we see very little of kaboul . His injury apparently is the same as the one Owen Hargreaves had so not looking good

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,428 ✭✭✭MrKingsley

Where did you see that about kabouls injury? I would be very suprised that to see us sell caulker if we only had vert and daws as centre backs especially as vert is injured. Even if we did sign the romanian lad then we couldnt expect him to start the season opener

Right, this is how I see us rotating this year with us mostly playing 433.

Well look at you with your fancy pants graphics!

Agree with your selection but I think our starting XI for the season opener is going to be very different which is a pity.

anyone else think Lennon might be the weak link in the attacking half of the pitch and he might be the first casualty of the season (once we have the other players fit and available)

    Very very strong team

Agree, excellent team. I wonder whether BAE is going to be out LB though? I also think, depending on how Soldado goes, we could see Ade on the left and Bale coming through the middle, like in quite a few games last season. When Ade is bothered, I think this is where he's at his best as he's got great control and can drag a couple of players out of position for someone like Bale to pounce. Not just Bale though - Dembele, Paulinho, Siggy - all of these guys can shoot.

    I just hope Bale stays

its a good team on paper but vertonghen injured, kaboul and sandro haven't played a pre season game and bales played 1.that would be our best team but whether we actually see it are 2 different things

Bae in everyones team and Naughton not in anyones.

BAE would be a better option as back up than Naughton, easy to say now I suppose. AVB obviously didn't like him, he's the boss I suppose.

Much more of a 4-2-3-1 we play these days rather than a 4-3-3.
