Hi, doing a family tree for my ex mother in law and we ve hit a snag. Hope someone can help.

Was there a centre in Waterford where young girls would ve been placed in care by the hse or whatever it was called circa late 80's.

Would it have been the magdalene laundry or some other place ?

Any help at all would be appreciated.

The Good Shepherd Convent probably. It is in Manor St/College St. There is an outside chance of Oasis house in Morrisons Road. This was built in the late 80's but it is for female victims of domestic abuse afaik. However there has been occasionally other women/girls housed there temporarily. There is a few halfway houses up near St Otterans Hospital (Physchiatric).Again an outside chance but you never know.

Many thanks, its a good place to start. Trying to trace a sister who was taken into care in the late 1980's and placed in a home in Waterford. We ve no more info than that to go on.
