I see anyway that TV3 are looking for new faces - they could do with putting a few new ones on Ireland am.

Have you not heard that the show is being extended by 45 minutes, and that Anton Savage is joining? :)

GHG is correct on both accounts.

Anton is joining the Ireland AM team and the show will be broadcast from 7 to 10:45 each weekday morning.

As it is at least 1hr of show is tv3 fashion shop promo. Hard to see how they'll fill another 45mins.
So from 7am to 1pm is all talk shows !
    That's a lotta talking :)

There's no sign of Cagney on that couch, or maybe he was sitting on the other side of Anton Savage and got cut out? I only hope the TV3 studio will be big enough to accommodate the massive egos of Savage and Cagney.

God,that new fill in one Clare McKenna on the show looks very uncomfortable and beyond huge.hard to watch her in little mini skirts sometimes.awful.where did they find her and her hair is a mess. they must be stuck for presenters on that show.thank god for Alan Hughes who is great.

    Old thread resurrection:

She's back....and not eh...huge any more....and I have to say it's rather easy to watch her in little mini skirts. Nice pair of pins too. (Am I allowed say that?)Anyhow, suffice to say that I find her rather attractive.

Always wondered why RTE never entered the breakfast telly market (the genre has been around in the UK for over 30 years now). Cost, maybe?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,841 ✭✭✭lertsnim

    Lack of viewers I'd say.

They feel that they can't have Morning Ireland *and* a breakfast TV show side by side. ;)

In contrast, the BBC has been happy to have a breakfast TV show and the Today programme on Radio 4 side by side for nearly 35 years...

Sinead Desmond seems to be absent for a while the stand is is very good IMO
seems more grounded and better presentation skills
Ciara must be still on honeymoon, good presenter too

I dont think so. I know there's a piece on there with her in Africa (shoebox appeal) - but don't think that's where she is right now. Think there's something more to it.

No idea where Sinead is gone, must say I think I prefere the other 3 female presenters, Anna, Kiera and Laura Woods.?

Hmmm.......just noticed that Shoebox Appeal promo on Ireland AM this morning.
    Sinead isn't in it anymore..............:-/

Be nice if they could extend the clothing allowance for Aidan Cooney a bit more. The same black suit, black shirt and blue tie makes an appearance at least once a week!!!

Ciara is back from honeymoon , very stylish

Could Anna Daly stop leaning into camera and swaying...makes me quite nauseous in the morning. Like she's permanently on a boat.

Plus the first traffic report at 7.30 is a bit ridiculous. I had to be in town for 8.30 yesterday and I would've needed to know at 7.

Astonishing that SD had to kick up over pay equality with those two morons Cagney and Sammy Sausages. Shes worth ten of those hackneyed has-beens. And for that reason, i'm out.

Yep this will come back to bite them for sure. It's obvious that she was the most popular presenter (both the general public and people who were interviewed have positive feedback).

Ah no it won't...it's that sort of bland breakfast show that anyone at all can present. I don't even remember Maura derrane on it...

Maura was on it well over ten years ago. Also, three hours is a long time to be on screen. It's a tough gig, I'd say. Fair play to her for leaving if she is getting paid less than the rest of that crew.

Always liked desmond, she seems a decent sort. Just hope she lands on her feet. Hopefully or am I wishing ill on her by hoping RTE have a spot for her? Certainly anyone who's worked in TV3 news with a soul has left for there , brian o'donoghue, and dianne connors. Actually what happened to Ursula????? Used to get a great chuckle at her enthusiasm for the political news :D

    Ursula retired.

I'll miss Sinead D, she was sassy and brightened the mornings

RTE have tried a morning show a few times but never got going over Ireland AM. Wonder if they could get Sinead Desmond to front it now.

Have been enjoying it more since she left, never liked her happy face-sad face carry on..and that pretentious laugh...so false....never thought she was a good presenter...Anna and Laura are streets ahead..just my opinion..

I always felt that Sinead was a very capable professional presenter. That said, I never really warmed to her.

I kinda like Ciara who's on every weekday morning now.Easy enough on the eye and not at all overbearing.

Yes, I agree. I'm surprised so many say they'll miss her. I'm sure she's a nice woman, but I felt she was dreadful, and I switched off Ireland AM years ago because of her. Ok, not her fault, but that licking her lip thing she did all the time really got on my nerves. Also, she constantly interrupted people and didn't have a good interviewing style. Probably more suited to print journalism. RTE wouldn't take her on, she's not good enough. I would say she's shot herself in the foot and TV3 will carry on without her without much of a dent.

Mark Cagney (as much as he's also not one of my favourites) has decades of broadcasting experience. Why wouldn't he be on more pay? She had no broadcasting experience before Ireland AM!

She may not have the connections needed to get into RTE.

Ah, she presented that show for over ten years. What more do you want? For all we know she could have been getting less than Aidan Cooney and Alan Hughes. Given that she had a lead role on that show, she should have been getting more than them.

I won't miss her either. She had an awful habit of asking a guest a question and then going "yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah... " over the answer. Very annoying when you are interested in actually hearing what the guest had to say.

Shows how short lived it was :) It was presented by Keelin Shanley and they tried a more news based approach. No fashion etc...

Anna comes across as a decent sort alright. Have no issue with Laura either. Not a fan of the lad who covers sport at the weekend. Knows very little about football at the professional levels that's for sure. Seems to frustrate the hell out of the panelists on their CL broadcasts.

So does the northern Irish girl and for magazine shows like Ireland AM that's the biggest part of the job, Desmond was utterly false but the accent was hilarious so I'll give her credit for that. It was as if she was on the couch every morning daydreaming of the inevitable phone calls that would come offering her Primetime, Claire Byrnes slot and the Late Late gig.

The only thing that irks me about Anna is when she says "isn't it" it comes out as "issinsuss"

Actually, while I'm on a rant. The whole RTE accent gets under my fingernails. Its footage, not futtige! And as for 'professional' speakers constantly going ahh or emmm every second word!

    I feel better, thanks. :o

Dont get me started on Maura Derrane's voice...she's too old to say "you guys" and Daithi..its "Ma,mammy, mum...but NEVER "Mom"....

Anna does try sometimes to posh it up and give it a bit of D4 but she'll always be 'All fur coat No Knickers' :D

Agree re: Sinead- I've seen more warmth eminate from a corpse than from her - so fake and false- harps on about being a journalist but she wrote for the bloody Sun and Mirror ffs
