T4 didn't make a loss at the box office, it was the least successful of the franchise but still pulled in a profit of $125 million.

If there isn't a Terminator movie made between now and 2018, then control reverts back to James Cameron. That's the rumour! With huge profits and control of rights up for grabs, there is plenty of reason to reboot.

Yvonne Strahovski would be good as Sarah Connor

Dear god, no. And no to any involvement with Summer Glau or anyone from the Sarah Connor Chronicles.

I'd love unknowns, personally. but I know that can't really happen.

I've always been someone who doesn't really care for a film set in the future. I think Terminator 4 *did* show interesting locations, but a lot of fans seem to want everything to look like the future scenes from the first two films - dark, small generic destroyed building sets. I don't think it'd be particularly interesting.

Will they ever give us the future was they briefly showed us in t2?

A petition was signed by thousands, why don't they ever listen to what the fans know and want.

A terminator in the 50s, dear oh dear.

This is one of the rare instances where

I'd prefer they go for a straight reboot Batman Begins style, no 1950's storyline to murder Sarah Connor's parents or Days of Future Past tangling timelines. The last film was a semi reboot at this point despite how much i love the series, it'd be best off to wipe the slate.

Alan Taylor has hinted that it would be a back to basics, grounded approach of the first two, apparently they're casting now

    http://screenrant.com/terminator-5-cast-list-john-sarah-connor/

I've a feeling it's going to be a really excellent, captivating reboot for some odd reason, like they'll try different takes on the scenario

Maybe they'll set it 80% in a future war, with flashbacks to pre war civilisation, althought it'll be sort of disappointing if its a stop the clock/Judgement day scenario again

The mythos/universe of the series I found so captivating years ago, it's probably one of the reasons I love movies so much, fate vs free will, gloomy atmosphere, the immenent threat of nuclear war, malovent AI. It all felt so real/bordering on reality therefore terrifying

Maybe they'll try different themes considering we're a different era tech wise.

I've a feeling it'll be derivative at worst, the good kind

Also this man was born to play Kyle Reese if they intend to reimagine characters:

    Aaron_Paul_a_p_0.jpg

Also heard their redesigning the t800 for it.

Tom Hardy is the sort of man of stature you would follow into war for real, some good news if he is been cast as John Connor (future war general). Its probably a good indicator of the caliber of the script if they're getting the likes of him onboard.

I'm surprised it's not being given a slasher remake with a bunch of unknowns that is typically done of 1980's horror remakes, fright night, halloween, probably more something close to T2 we'll get for money sakes

All speculation at this point I suppose!

  • Registered Users Posts: 269 ✭✭bellinter

make one more attempt to wipe out John Connor.... only this time succeed. Then cut back and see what happens to the war when he dies. Terminator meets Looper. That would be a serious head f*ck. And it would certianly mix it up.

Aaron Paul certainly looks the part to play Kyle Reese alright. And I'm with Adamantium above. Seeing as they simply MUST make another Terminator rather than trying to get an original film from somewhere, then a complete reboot is whats needed, with a line drawn under everything thats come before, rather than trying to tie in any of them which would just be a series of contrivances.

Just make the future war section of T2 into a full lenght film, and don't let McG anywhere near it.

No thanks! Won't happen now anyways, you guys got T4 and thousands stayed at home.

What we will get is a forgettable clichéd reboot aimed at a 12pg audience, everyone will say how nice it was to look at, go home and stick on the real thing from the 80's.

What we got in t4 was a crock of **** which didn't resemble the future scene in t2 one bit.

It would be a big hit done properly! Who doesn't wanna see terminators and humans fighting it out underground in a nuclear winter!

I never noticed that similarity between Michael Biehn and Aaron Paul before.

Aaron Paul is a good actor and I loved him in Breaking Bad but he bears no resemblance whatsoever to Michael Biehn and I could not see him acting in his role.

Why do you think a whole entire film taking place at night in the darkness in nothing but skeletons of buildings would make for an interesting film? T4 *had* to vary the locations and make it look different from T2.

Well its something I would love, the world Reese talked about in t1, people on the brink of starvation hiding in the ruins of A nuclear war, and hiding from hks etc.

Just always fascinated me, plus it could be worldwide so not just in America, could also tie in the bit where they get sent back just as humans where on the brink of victory.

There is loads of things they could do with it.

Was on terminator files earlier and die hard fans plus 100s of others want this type of film and have for years.

Technically with the name it has, its probably the only series that should be rebooted forever like a computer

Kyle Reese: Listen, and understand. That terminator franchise is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, creatively bereft, remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until its taken all your money!

Would have to presume it did attack the world too, a lot of the books tie in with this theory.

I'm a big fan of Hardy but I'm not sure I'd want him as Connor.

I can just imagine it being very similar to his turn in Warrior, with Connor presented as the brooding, silent and surly type. Someone who doesn't care about the human sacrifices being made as long as they defeat the machines.

I think the leader of the human resistance against the machines would need more than that; he needs to be inspiring and be able to connect with his people. It's actually the one thing I liked about Bale's Connor, they at least tried to present him as someone who wanted to inspire those who were left not to give up (through his radio transmissions).

Didn't everyone involved with Terminator 4 admit it was a mistake? The director, producers and stars all admitted that movie was a mistake.

Have you got a source to this?

IMO The film wasnt half bad, just boring in parts and not really a Terminator film. Much better than part 3.

Everyone seems to be in agreement that aiming for the 12a rating was a big mistake. It forced them to eliminate some plot and complex story lines and change the dark ending that would have set up the next sequel.
Although I would assume some people don't mind the 12a rating though, to each their own.

I haven't seen him in anything, I hope he's good because purely on looks (I'm not even talking in attraction terms), he doesn't strike me as the hard man leader of the resistance. He actually looks like a bit of a toff.

He was in the tv series Brotherhood which I'd recommend and also Lawless and Zero Dark Thirty

    I know I know :D

But I just can't see older John Conners going back in time! Having Sarah going forward in time changes the whole mythology of the previous films. So unless its a complete reboot I don't see it working.

John Connors goes back in time and does the dirty with his mother to have.... John Connors and again to have another, he's john connors me brother and this is john connors me father and i'm john connors and that's john connors too, me cousin etc...

Emilia Clarke emerges as the frontrunner to play Sarah Connor.

It's now official. Shes got the part.
It’s official. Emilia Clarke will play Sarah Connor in the Terminator reboot, re-teaming with director Alan Taylor, who has worked with Clarke in the HBO series Game Of Thrones.

Clarke joins Jason Clarke, who is in negotiations to play her son John Connor in a storyline I’ve heard involved a trip into the future. Deadline revealed that he was in talks earlier this week.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is also back in his signature cyborg role.

Oddly enough the only thing I don't want in this movie is Arnold. A completely untethered clean break from past even in basic story terms

Lena Headey played Sarah Connor and also happens to in GOT,weirdly there's a resemblance between the actors too.

So far in the Terminator Franchise, we have had a Lannister Sarah Connor, A Taragaryen Sarah Connor and a GOT director.

I would have preferred Mary Elizabeth Winstead for Connor, not as dainty as the other two and not quite as young.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,315 ✭✭✭Soft Falling Rain

Jaysus been awhile since I heard MEW's name!

Glad Clarke got it, she has improved as GOT has gone on and she really came into her own last season as the Queen of the people. I reckon she'll nail this.

Isn't Emilia Clarke tiny? she certainly doesn't look the part of Sarah Connor, Linda Hamilton was believable as a regular girl who turns into a buffed gung ho action chick, can't see Clarke in that part.

Watch GoT, Clarke is well capable of playing someone with a tough exterior.

Poor casting so far excluding Emilia Clarke. Unless they have come up with something mindblowing in terms of story I've no real interest in seeing this on the big screen.

Jason Clarke is a superb actor, and the best one announced for the film so far definitely. Clarke will do fine too.

Courtney on the other hand, well I'll wait and see, not overly enthused about that casting though.

Jai Courtney is Sam Worthington 2.0.

I find him to be incredibly bland.

Personally I think it's great casting. Clarke is a fantastic talent and unlike Bale he's not the kind of actor whose going to force excessive rewrites so as to give him more screen time. Courtney isn't half bad either, while he's not had many chances to impress he was the best thing about the last Die Hard and is one of those immensely likeable actors. He may never be a Pacino or O'Toole but he's certainly a far better actor than anyone gas given him credit for so far

Clarke I like and can understand the defense of but Jai Courtney? Seriously.

The guy is in serious need of a charisma transplant. To call him bland, does blandness itself an injustice.

A choppy non in sync fanmade trailer. Great concept and will get the imagination flowing.
Really gets across the dramatic potential of the series without Arnold.
When Biehn showed up, i was "I wish this was real, damn".

Makes me wonder what T3 could have been with Cameron on board.
    A complete trilogy

    We'll never see it now.

He was good in Die Hard and Spartacus and hopefully this will give him an opportunity to show what he can do. He's not really had a role where's he's been allowed to be anything beyond gruff and imposing so best not to write him off just yet.

He has zero charisma and no screen presence if that makes sense and unlike Sammy W isn't easy on the peepers imo :p

Boyd Holbrook was the other actor against him for the role of Kyle
