Looks awful. Whatever about the mad plot, casting Arnie again and getting the one off Game of Thrones, it just highlights what is wrong with modern action movies. Somewhere along the way, that somewhere being when CGI gave film makers limitless options, people decided to focus everything on visuals. The bigger, the louder and the more detached from reality the better. Everything these days has to be artic trucks flipping over, bridges collapsing, people hanging off bridges while they collapse.... and on and on. Yes, its an action movie. Have some action. But why not also focus on having a solid well written script that actually underpins everything else, the same way T1 & 2 did. This might have that, but I highly highly doubt it will be anything more than forgettable summer blockbuster fluff. /rant

*oh and lifting well known references, set-pieces and dialogue from the originals? GTFO!

I've finally got around to watching the trailer. It's...I don't know about others but I'm confused as to the timelines. How can the future exist that we see if the past it is coming from is different ?

I'll stop as I have given myself a headache trying to work out the terminator timeline.

I was thinking last night, given how devastating something such as judgement day would be, why not create a movie that focuses on survivors of then, or rather ordinary people becoming fighters/ survivors.

I really can't get over how narrow-minded Hollywood execs are. Yes I know cash-grab and all that. Surely there's room to make a movie that focuses on people other than the Connors from Tuam.

It's about war not phrases that have become meaningless - come with me if you want to be back

It looks awful. And there seems to be yet another action scene set on the Golden Gate bridge. That place needs to be off limits to action scenes for a decade.

My guess would be that the future war won't happen until James Cameron gets the rights back...although this is a trilogy so who knows what they'll do for the second and third movies

It's rare that I am disappointed by just a trailer, but that has turned me off even bothering going to the cinema to see it. I saw Terminator 2 in the cinema last month and was looking forward to this given how bad the last movies were. But this looks truly and utterly awful :(

Cameron said if he wanted to do anything with it, it would be entire reimagining. Likely, He'll get the rights back and sit on them until he dies

    Eh..parallel universes...yeah. That'll do. :D

Terminators attack the rebels as they're sending Reese back, messing up how the machine says interacts with the space-time continuum.

I wouldn't put it past them.

Yes, but I'm hoping Cameron would make something to make up for them and finish the franchise in a way that everyone could just disregard the other ones after t2

You'd swear they built that bridge just to destroy it (Digitally) for the movies!

Metal or not, he'd be pretty mangled from falling into propellers. Then again, there could be a group of them sent back. I could have sworn he has different coloured hair (grayer) that when he first appears in the trailer.

Yes I noticed that, his hair at the start of the trailer when he uttered the phase I've Been Expecting You wasn't as grey as his hair in helicopter scene.

Are we set to see an aging Terminator?

And rapidly aging too, since the other actors don't change. Unless they go to the future. Or if he returns again from the future. Or if his hair is from the future.

Bloody time travel films, always give me a headache!

Terminator has been leave your brain at home locked in a safe since the third one.

This doesn't look great by any means but you gotta laugh at some of the criticism its getting . The people who are complaining about how the liquid metal effect is a downgrade on what was achieved over 20 years ago are clearly letting their CGI fatigue and disappointment over the last 2 films effect their judgement. It looks the exact same . Same for the Millenium falcon scene in The trailer for Force awakens, I personally think it looks fine but even if it does look cgi no one will give a **** if that film turns out to be a return to form for the franchise.

And we all loved the third one.

The reason we're still all talking about new Terminator films, and not a new Commando, Raw Deal, Red Sonja, Red Heat, Eraser, 6th Day, Collateral Damage, End of Days, etc.. is that Terminator actually had a bit of substance to it. It wasn't just a leave-your-brain-at-home "Arnie film".

    Wasn't.

Cameron seems more concerned with his Avatar sequels and rightly so given the fact that Terminator's been run through the muck. I remember seeing T2 as a kid and praying that they'd make one set in the future. Then I saw Salvation. Say what you will about T3 but Salvation killed the franchise for many.

Our only hope is that like Prometheus, the original directors come back and do something different.

Prometheus was not just a terrible Alien sequel/prequel... whatever you wan't to call it, it was a complete failure of a film in every single aspect. I'm surprised with the negative reaction the trailer is getting, I think it looks well, certainly not what I was expecting, they seem to be at least trying something different jumping back and forth between timelines, rather than a simple linear trip back to one particular year... for those that may have missed it there's more than one time machine on show in the trailer. I think this may yet surprise.

Salvation wasn't perfect but I definitely preferred it to T3. Had a feeling a sequel or series of films in that vain could have ironed out some rough edges and been worth seeing. A missed opportunity maybe, but at least they tried.

Sarah Conner Chronicles had some dodgy, cheesy, terrible at times acting, but was actually fairly decent otherwise. If you gave up after a couple of episodes you should give it another go.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

Yeah, it's one of those shows I was gutted ended abruptly. I thought it was good - the relationship between John and Summer Glau's Terminator was just starting to become truly intriguing and explore things that the franchise hasn't gone into before. It was cheesy, but it was a good show if you're a Terminator fan.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,391 ✭✭✭PhiloCypher

Can someone please point out what's parts they found cheesy in Sarah Conner Chronicles. I thought it was a great show and Bear Mcreary's score for the series is as much a part of the Terminator lexicon for me as Brad Friedals iconic theme.

Mostly the acting. Cheesy, or hammy maybe. Particularly the T-800. Some of the "sexy terminator" stuff with Summer Glau. And John Conner emo'ing around the place.

Had the feeling that the actors weren't particularly comfortable in their roles. And the writers took a while to properly find a groove, which didn't help.

Despite all that it was still a good show. A good example of the storytelling that's possible within that universe, and jaysus another season or two could have been great. Have an urge to rewatch it now actually!

I'll admit it's probably been a year or more since I've watched it but the only sexy terminator stuff I remember came late in its run and was intentionally disturbing and not intended for cheap titillation. As for Dekkers John being Emo I'd imagine he was just aligning himself with Edward Furlongs portrayal who wrote the book on Emo acting.

If 1984 Arnie is destroyed on arrival then Cyberdyne never find the cpu and thus never create Terminators. This particular plot hole popped into my head at 3am this morning.

I didn't mind the first season too much. It compelled me to watch the second season where everything just fell apart. I don't remember too much but there was Kyle's brother coming back, some horrific CG, something about symbols and a supercomputer using Cromartie's body (John Henry?) and a scottish T-1000. The love arc between John and Cameron was just that little bit too daft.

A lot of hate here, I think the trailer looks good, I like the idea of revisiting the 80s, i like that the future weapons look like they might belong in the future we saw in T1, I like they found away to explain the aged Arnie. Clarke really looks the part and sounds like Linda Hamilton. The only bit I font like is Jai Courtney playing Reese, far too action man to be playing him, he looks completely wrong IMO.

Now the film could be complete generic crap but as long as it does the majority of things right then it should be good.

Ha, I read this as "Jason Clarke". Got confused for a brief moment!

Jai Courtney would be better suited as a generic solder, or a Terminator. He's just not Kyle Reese. Is Michael Biehn definitely off the table?

Just watched the trailer today and tbh I do not know what to think but I feel the casting for this movie is just wrong.

Emilia Clarke looks out of place as Sarah Connor and imo she seems to be overacting her part especially in the trailer when she tells Kyle to "move it soldier".

I think Jai Courtney is a poor choice for Kyle Reese also and the asian guy playing the part of the liquid metal terminator looks nowhere near as intimidating as Robert Patrick's T-1000.

Going on this trailer alone I think the movie will be a disappointment, I hope I'm wrong but at the moment I am just not all that excited about seeing it.

To keep in line with the inauthentic castings I'd say Dan Stevens could've been a better choice to play a T1000. Played the role of a psychopath pretty well in The Guest which I think would translate to playing a ruthless robot well.
