If Go-Ahead are taking these into their fleet. They must be their new commuter coaches for Bus Éireann's old routes.

I presume it's the same for Bus Éireann as well if they have them for their fleet.

They are for both, Volvo had no involvement in the manufacturing or design of that bus, their involvement is only the mechanical side.

I quite like them. They just look a bit different from what we're used to here look similar to a lot of the medium distance buses you'd see on the continent.

They are like a coach and city bus hybrid. It's a big improvement on regular coaches as they are low floor.

These vehicles do not have capacity for standing due to speed limits of 100km/h (which is why they have seatbelts)

Also no buggy access. Folded buggies / folded prams ONLY

Allowing standing or unfolded buggies on these vehicles is ILLEGAL.

I cannot stress this enough as it's the same with the LD / LF fleet yet some drivers seem to be uneducated in this respect.

They are low floor buses which meaning a wheelchair user can board on a turn up and go basis correct without the need to prebook?

How enforced are these laws as a matter of interest. Also as far as I'm aware the seatbelts are optional from the operators pov only school buses are required to have them I thought and the 100km limit was to do with standing passengers not seatbelts.

Your first part is partially true.

The wheelchair users on these vehicles will still need to be strapped down to the coach. They are free to wheel on and park up like a city bus but still need restraints in place.

Anything over 65kmh requires seatbelts legally and cannot accommodate any standees or unfolded buggies / prams

Gardai etc are aware of these laws and also if your standing on a platform at 100kmh and have an accident, what's going to protect you ? Nothing !

Must have seatbelts as they go further then 35km from base and due to speed.....

I think the law is that they can't allow standing passengers but nothing about seatbelts

Why do you think they don't allow standing ?

Because they don't have seatbelts for standing !

The law is if it goes over 65km/h, then it must have a seatbelt and seated only passengers.( Bus eireann and other coach operates that operate at higher speeds)

It's it's limited to 65km/h then it can allow standing and no need for seatbelts (Dublin bus)

It is also the law that all passengers of a vehicle must wear a safety belt while traveling on a vehicle. Yes this means bus eireann and any other operater as a passenger. Hence there is always signage to notify passengers of same thus taking the requirement from the driver to tell you to wear the safety belt.

If you are caught not wearing a safety belt on a bus you are liable to fines.

    https://www.rsa.ie/RSA/Your-Vehicle/Vehicle-Standards/Components/Safety-Belts-on-Buses/

    https://www.rsa.ie/en/RSA/Your-Vehicle/About-your-Vehicle/Example-of-non-Dup/Seat-belts--child-restraints-/
    For buses
The latest regulations also say that bus drivers and bus passengers aged 3 and above must wear seat belts where they have been provided.

A person aged 14 and above is responsible for wearing their seat belt on a bus and drivers may refuse to carry a passenger who fails to wear a seat belt. The penalty for failure to comply is a fine of up to €2,000.

Bus owners are required to ensure that passengers are informed of the requirement to wear seat belts while they are seated and while the vehicle is in motion, through either an announcement, presentation, appropriate signage, etc. The penalty for failure to comply is a fine of up to €5,000; however, the vehicle owner does not commit an offence if it’s shown that he/she was unable to inform passengers of the requirement because of damage caused by vehicle users to video equipment or signage, etc., and where rectification of the damage was not practical in the circumstances.

There's a video online somewhere (looking for ages for it but can't find it) of gardai actually randomly stopping a coach on the N4 near Lucan to check the coach for passengers wearing safety belts. Maybe someone can find it !

If that's the case it's a daft law and it must be a domestic law not an EU law as there's buses in the UK and on the continent that can take standing passengers and don't have seatbelts but can go over 65km. Don't see the safety risk there was a lot of ridiculous knee jerk reaction legislation that was brought about after the Kentstown crash.

For example I was on a few medium distance buses in Italy recently and they are a far more appropriate spec than anything BE have which is designed for short distance commuter work rather than long distance intercity work. The only issue I could see was they were the older ones were not low floor. They could take 55 seated and 25 standing there were handrails fitted to the overhead luggage racks. They definitely weren't limited to 65km/ph either.

As a driver off these, even sitting with a seatbelt on at 100km/h it can be very likely fatal. So standing even at 80.... I wouldn't

Also you're wrong again, UK buses are limited with relation to seatbelts and not

TransLink have urby buses at the moment limited to 50MPH but they have seatbelts, as do their airport buses limited to 50MPH

Anything without safety belts is limited to 40MPH.

As for Italy - your wrong again https://ec.europa.eu/transport/road_safety/going_abroad/slovenia/speed_limits_en.htm
