Sorry if it's been asked before - where's the best place to go and listen to jazz late in Dublin?

The basement in the International Bar on a Thursday, it's also free (just throw a few euro in a cup for the band)

Sorry for a slight derailment to this thread, but OP will probably appreciate this question too. What is JJ's like? I've always meant to go but I know nothing about the musicians that play there so I'm not sure who's worth paying a tenner to see. Tbh I just like the idea of having a beer in a pub with a live jazz band on, I'm not necessarily after a gig specifically.

Practically speaking, JJ's is a not too comfortable, smallish venue with a small stage. Having said that, the atmosphere can be amazing, depending on who is playing. You could check You Tube for the names of artists playing upcoming gigs there, to see if they are to your taste. AFAIK, the only time you will get free live jazz is for Sunday brunch at some cafes/pubs/restaurants.
