How long is the station active?

Just up the hill from you I've broken that three times this month (but today only made 25.7C :()...and the record here is 28.4C (1995).
Just since last year, however I have a feeling the top temps during this spell will stand for a long while. I'm in my 40's and this summer is the best for sun that I can remember so far though its missing fireworks so has room to improve !!

Game over rather suddenly and unexpectedly it would appear.

Cloudy, some hazy sunshine earlier, breezy and 19.4C; a typical July day - all we need is a bit of rain and it's back to 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012...already.

Cloudy, breezy and very humid (85%) - much warmer today than this time yesterday; currently 19.5C.

Fell to to 15.1C last night with rh of 95% which makes it the warmest night this month in these parts.

I note the Met Eireann hindcasters have changed the max for Dublin today from 22C last night to 26C this morning!

Could be a muggy day ahead....

No it's not. Even if we have a crappy August, it will still be a far better summer than what you have listed. Those summers were bad ALL summer, every single month.

A bit of perspective please. We just had a great summer spell and June wasn't half bad either. Don't be such a misery guts.

    June was cold.

July was very good from July 5th to July 20th (16 days).

I'm being realistic - I don't call 16 days of which about 13 were warm and sunny a great summer, even by Irish standards.

It might yet be one of the good memorable summers - but only if August isn't a washout.

I'm sorry, but you are still absolutey mental in the head to compare this summer to the preceding six.

Early June may have been cool, but it had a gorgeous cheery sunny spell, and even when that ended, it was mostly dry. The summer months in the preceding six were generally actually COLD, not even cool. And even before the hot spell began, there was a pleasant balminess present in the weeks leading up to it. That alone is a huge improvement on the previous 6 summers.

July had a hot, sunny spell.

Like I said, even with a crappy August, it has still, as of now, beaten the previous six.

We had NO good months during those summers.

June this year = good to very good
July this year = very good to excellent

So, what you are trying to say just doesn't stack up, even if it goes downhill from here.

And, IMO, this is a good summer even by Irish standards.

I am NOT comparing this summer to the preceding six; I'm comparing it to the climatic average.

The "preceding six" were exceptionally bad.

By climatic average standards, 2013 is nothing special so far; cool dry June followed by a 16 day period of warm sunny weather in July.

    It all depends on August.

"A bit of rain" will not bring us back to the years YOU mentioned, where every goddamn month was cold, windy and wet. We don't know what August will do yet, but if it's not cold, it won't compare to the years you mentioned and even if it does, this summer will still be a vast, vast improvement.

Pre-2006, the last longish warm spell was 2003, and that was overcast more than it was sunny. We didn't really get the accompanying sun that the UK got, which people seem to forget for some reason. It was most humid, overcast and very unpleasant. The weather we've just had was NOT a regular occurence pre-2007. We'd get a handful of scorching summer days but longish period remained rare. 2006 was noteworthy.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,548 ✭✭✭Harps

2am and its still hovering around 20C, warmest night I've experienced in this whole spell

I think its fairly obvious that its been a better than average summer up to now. June was dry with plenty of warm, sunny days, July has been exceptionally warm, dry and sunny up to now with another warm week forecast. Even with a bad August it'll rank alongside 2006 as one of our better summers

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 378 ✭✭Quickelles

where every goddamn month was cold, windy and wet.

Bit of an exaggeration I'd say but I'm not going bother checking out 18 individual months to extend this futile exchange.

By long term average standards if the weather is bad from now till the end of August then this summer, here in Dublin, will have been nothing exceptional.

That stats support me. This is my final comment on the matter; I have a memory (and records) that extend back to the early 1970s.

This morning it is very dull and has a look of precipitation about it; temp 18C and rh 90%.

    Muggy and unpleasant.

Last night the temp only dropped to 16.3C; the warmest night of the current warm snap at this location.

Seen someone say it's bucketing in Athlone, well I'm in Ballinasloe, no rain here, clouds don't look heavy. 12:15 radar suggests we just had a rain fall, but honestly it's still dry here.

    This too shall pass.
