Met.ie now revising upwards the max temps of today to 29 deg per their latest update!! So much for a "cooler" weekend!! B-)

If the 06Z GFS were to be accurate then I'd say all time records would be under threat, not sure if the 33.3C record from June can be beaten being a full month past peak solar heating but the July record would definitely be up for grabs. Heatwave conditions for at least another 11 days and actually getting even hotter from next weekend!

Drought and water shortages looking more and more likely as well

There are some building cb's visible over towards lugnaquilla now.
So a sharp shower /storm may spawn up there later and head into kildare.

Sea breeze in Arklow is very strong today, above 20mph!
Air temp is therefore a pleasant 20.3c

I'd say the local sailing club will be enjoying that wind today.

Also saw this, this morning, in Spain prime positions r saved with a towel, the good positions in Ireland are saved this way, had to laugh

It's already as warm here in Waterford now at 12pm as it was yesterday when it peaked around 3pm.

Stubborn 22C here midlands. 3c cooler than same time yesterday and we reached 30 later on. I'm hopeful for a 25C day, the 6th consecutive of 25 or above. Next weekend and indeed all of next week looks awesome for most. Water shortages are looming large now i'd say for the authorities concerned.

After a sweltering week in Galway city (max 29.2C on the 9th) it's a very pleasant 19.7C at the moment.
It's been overcast all morning but the sun is starting to break though so expecting low to mid-20's this afternoon

Isn't it a great pity that the excess heat can't be captured and released back into the atmosphere in say January! :p

It can be captured for smaller scale release - we have a geothermal heating system so my garden is soaking it up for next winter. :)

There's a bit of intermittent cloud cover in Cork at the moment. Nothing particularly heavy, still stunning weather.

Its 25 degrees here in Waterford although there is some patchy cloud which hides the sun at times.

27.1C now in S. Tipp, a bit of patchy cloud about but mostly blue skies. Beginning to get used to these temperatures, 27C no longer feels hot.

Temp got up to 27.2 at 12.30pm but a noticeable breeze kicked it shortly afterwards to bring temps down. Currently 23.9c

Quite cool here in mayo. Cool breeze overcast and drizzle.

Evelyn just on RTE with latest forecast. Blocking high in situ from Thursday on. Plenty of heat for next 10 days. Little if no rainfall, max 3mm leading to drought around parts of country.

Sounds like a heatwave to me

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,745 ✭✭✭whitebriar

    18.3c in Arklow.
    very strong sea breeze.
wow what a contrast to yesterday, almost 9 degrees colder

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,134 ✭✭✭✭maquiladora

Yeah the next 10-12 days look like staying warm/hot. For northern/western and some coastal areas it will be cooler early next week but southern areas look like dropping no lower than mid-20's before the heat gets kicked back up again in the second half of the week, which could well be hotter than any day we've had so far in this heatwave.

Nice day here in Clare 24c, much nicer than the oppressive heat we had for the past week.
