29.9 offically recorded at Castlederg at 17.00. I'm sure it would have crept over the 30 mark throughout this past hour

NI weather record may well have been broken once surronding weather stations have been checked. 30.8 is the record

Well it's game up and over for this particular hot spell now as both gfs and ukmo agree on wet conditions taking hold from Wed night into Thursday
Will it be a blip or something more unsettled to come as we move to August

True enough each model run is looking more and more unsettled. With GFS looking wet indeed. But after 18 rainless days and soil moisture deficits approaching 10cm it's difficult to take the stance that it's a bad thing.

Well the latest DPC FI says the good weather is going to last into August... DPC being Donegal Postman Chart, surprised RTE bother with him at all

Thats the output from the 0Z ECM.

12Z ECM hasn't rolled out yet.

As expected, a big change on the 12Z ECM.

Now it takes that low straight over us on Wednesday.

Take a picture of how the weather looks outside now because you might forget what it looked like come Wednesday.

Shannon topped out at 29.5 today , wonder if any official station topped the magical 30 mark. Must have been incredible conditions when the record was set so long ago to make 32.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

On the forecast after the 6 news, Siobhan showed some of the highest temperatures recorded in Ireland.

32.3 was recorded in Elphin on the 19 July 2006 - so not that long ago really! 850 temps then were about 2-3 degrees higher than today in a more direct airflow from the continent.

In think you need these conditions from early June...like in '76 and '95; everything warm and dry when the sun is at it's peak.

Despite the sunshine June 2013 was cool and the sea was cold until a few weeks ago.

I could see a shower happening a few miles away from me just now, you know when you can see a shower falling from clouds in the distance?

Shannon and Athenry 28c at 2000, and some 27s around too, all west of the Shannon - remarkable !!
Surely the magic 33.3c is seriously under threat this weekend :)

WTF???!!! Its been 30C outside all day in Mayo, probably still mid twenties...and its now pissing down rain!

A quick look on raintoday suggests that this is the only place in the UK and Ireland where its raining right now...

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,134 ✭✭✭✭maquiladora

I was wrong about the rain arriving on Wednesday morning on the 12Z ECM...look what happens from noon on Tuesday :

    PP079iZ.gif

The question is will this just be plain old rain or something more... explosive?

I wish Deep Easterly was still around.

How many groups are backing that solution now Maq?

Predicting about 5 days out will always bring uncertainty. Met eireann seemed pretty sure about a sunny hot week ahead with occasional thundery showers in south west and west. I guess forecast after 9 news should tell us more

We were told that showers may occur. Why are people still surprised that high temps and sun can spark downpours?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,141 ✭✭✭Elmer Blooker

I can hear the 9 news in the background and one of the main headlines was "it's official, today has been the hottest this year" - so I presume it was 30.something or did it even hit 31c somewhere?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,037 ✭✭✭Cosmo Kramer

We were told that showers may occur. Why are people still surprised that high temps and sun can spark downpours?

Because the forecast was for these showers in the SW from Sunday, not in Mayo this evening.

    Today

Generally very warm, dry and sunny today. Highest temperatures of 25-29 degrees Celsius, warmest inland. There is a slight risk of an isolated shower in the late-afternoon or evening.

Nope, some forecasts I read stated showers were a possibility. And they often happen in hot weather, even if not forecast.
