Was anyone watching the great progress of the women's 7s team this year? They finished top 8 in the world at the World Cup this weekend ahead of many other more experienced 7s nations.

I was wondering if anyone had an opinion or information on a national men's 7s team? It appears Ireland are the only nation of the top rugby playing nations that does not have a team/developmental programme, seems a shame.

There was a thread on here recently debating the merits and pitfalls of a 7's squads. Maybe have a goo at it, lots of good points raised on it.

Micky Mouse game. Not worth bothering with and wasting money on it.
It will have olympics miasma about it shortly which will have any right minded sports fan running a mile from it.

very little promo for the all-ireland club 7s finals today even on the IRFU site..not a good sign for a national mens squad anytime soon...

to be fair this is not the time of year for 7s. Quite a few clubs wouldn't be interested in playing now as will want to be prepping for AIL etc.
7s should have a place in the season but towards the end of the season where it would be more likely to get some promotion.
Look at the list of teams playing http://t.co/xPTJUhFKLE. Nearly all based in Dublin. Only 1 munster side. why? Because clubs are prepping for the AIL and the charity cups etc which is more important at this time of the season

Article on 7s on talking rugby during the week was good. wonder would IRFU ever think of getting rid of wolfhounds to play 7s but would that be worthwhile?

It appears we are going to have a women's 7s team at Rio 2016, but not a men's team. While it's a different game to Rugby, one would have thought that men's rugby 7s would be one of our best chances of Olympic success in team sports.

How? We've got no team not natural aptitude for the game and there are a dozen teams that would fancy their chances.

I suppose at the end of the day a lot of people will be disappointed that Rugby, or a version of it, will feature in the 2016 Olympic and Ireland won't feature in it, when it clearly is a sport we have some history in, regardless of code.

Glad to hear we'll be represented by the women's team.

The women haven't qualified yet have they? It's not an easy task to get there.

As 6N champions they must fancy their chances of qualifying and even more. Re men's 7s a country with our inte rnational ranking and pool of players in the 15s game should be able to develop a respectable 7s team at fairly short notice. I'll leave you with that.

Not at all unfortunately. 7s has become quite a specialised sport and I don't think we would be able to develop any bit of a respectable 7s side at short notice. It wold take a while to get up to speed at 7s game. Like what players from 15s game would you use?

Ha, the sponsorship naming is kinda confusing. I was like 'Is it a mid-strength league?'
