Hi Basically in a Nutshell my Dad has 35 acres of land planted in Trees types include Oak,Ash, ScotsPine, Norway Spruce, Fir, Beech,
We have to get them thinned out by Mid August or Grants will be stopped.
Have to find someone to take on the project as dont have time ourselves.

So we made a few calls and a couple of people have said they will Fell them if they can have the timber for nothing are we getting a raw deal ? Their is a good access road if that makes any difference,

    Any advice kindly appreciated

Contact Teagasc and get their forestry consultant out to advise you.
Contact the likes of greenbelt and the forestry company (and any other consultants) and get them out as well, this is all free advice.
You'll get a good range of advice from these people and will soon know what your best course of action is...
Hard to advise you from the comforts of the keyboard as access, size of trees, terrain etc. have such a bearing on whether timber is economically viable to extract.

Would agree with locky76, get on to your local teagasc forestry man... he should be able to advise you best. He is totally independent and he should know the quality of the work being undertaken by the various forestry contractors and can advise you accordingly.
Some of the forestry companies are just passing on the work to harvesting contractors and taking a margin per tonne on it without any real management, others from what I have seen are making a business out of it but raping the forests along the way. Tread carefully.
The return for thinning the broadleaf forest will be something like the value of the timber and maybe €6 tonne for the conifer part of the forest assuming that it is a 16-18 year old plantation.
