Putting myself in for this one as I can't do the Race series half. Emer, want to replicate our Half partnership from last year, seeing as our goals and pbs are identical :)

That's funny Rachel - I just plucked mine out of my a$$ thin air and still am not quite sure it's possible, but I'd be happy to have some company for the experiment... as long as I don't slow you down? :D:o

Still laughing at the idea that you'd slow me down - role reversal I think! Anyway, just reading back on the thread - only just spotted the whole smackdown thingy. Peckham are we allowed run together or do we have to eyeball each other on the start line, growl a bit and then elbow each other to the end?

Naturally yourself and Emer will be on different teams. As such I'd be expecting each of you trying to jeopardise each other's race. For example, if I was paired with you and we didn't win, and then I subsequently found out that you shared your water with Emer (and her team finished ahead of us), I would be particularly displeased. A more appropriate tactic for this event will be for you to knock her water out of her hand, ideally all over her thus making her running less comfortable, and then compound her discomfort by throwing your own half-full bottle of water onto the side of the road once you've finished with it.

    ;)

    hi,

Just a quick question if that's Ok.
Are the combined times taken from the table or from the actual race day results?

And now a long rambling post if that's Ok too!

Back in the mists of time there was a race called NAM and it had a special stage where you got to see the elevation profile and distance of a course (it was 8k with 300m climb roughly)
Anyway, you predicted your finishing time and if you managed the time you were given that time to go towards your overall time (in a 10 stage event)

The interesting bit was if you were quicker than your predicted time you got no benefit but if you were slower you were penalised 4 seconds for every second over the time. (we got lost and were 10 minutes late!)

So in a race where every second counted it was important to pick a tough but very realistic goal time.
Dunno if this might add yet more spice to your race within a race?

    cheers..

Just signed up. Target time is a bit plucked from the air but maybe I can improve again on National 1/2 result. Maybe not. Not sure how Meno will feel being beaten in a sprint finish by CL.

    Suggestion:
To make this even more interesting all competitors must run without any timing or pacing device or aid of pacers etc.

I'd agree to that if this was like a beer mile type event - but this is a big deal for a lot of us - the table and ensuing banter is just to add spice!!

Others herewould have way better suggestions than me, but if you are in around dublin maybe a park run 2 weeks out?

Two mile warm up, 7 miles at planned half marathon pace, two mile warm down. If you can manage that comfortably, then you should be good for your target. Better to do a session like that a few weeks out from your goal race.

This is indeed a great one, I've done it for my last two target HMs but somehow didn't come to mind last night :o

I have hit my target in the race both times at the pace I done the 7 miler at.

Ah, so you have noticed this thread. Where's your entry on the table above?! Could result in a family partnership.

a few weeks? would 10 days out be too soon?

10 Days out would be perfect. Follow it up with a substantially easier session 4/5 days out (e.g. 2 x 2 mile @HMP), or if doing it two weeks out follow-up with either a long run (13-15 miles, or 3 x 2 miles @HMP with warm-up/down), with a week to go. When you think about it, 7 miles @HM pace should be relatively achievable, as it's similar to running 10k at 10k pace + 30 seconds/mile (for a 90 minute target).

Carrying a bit of a knock at the moment, so not entirely sure, but would hope to be in 1:15 shape (let's call it 1:15:24) by the time it comes around, for an existing PB of 1:17:16 (from 2012). Putting us together in a family partnership could result in an end to that family partnership.

Updated table, now with the addition of the Clown. One thing is for sure is that if no-one sticks in a time faster than the Clown, a "random selection" process at the foot of the table could result in a dream team partnership between the fastest and least fast runner. ;)

I'm following the P+D 55 mile per week plan for DCM. On September 4 (10 days out) we have a lactate threshold run of 12 miles with 7 @ 15k to half marathon pace. Spot on!

The percentage improvement calcs are wrong as the difference is being expressed as a percentage of the target rather than the current - for example if you plan to halve your time the table would say that's a 100% improvement instead of 50%.

The Mayo lads should stick to the football and leave the sums to the Dubs :D

Just thought of this now, but have all those who posted a time, did they list their club name as boards.ie? Would be good to see the name out there on the results sheets.
