Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

There is a smell coming from our mains gas hob which is 7 years old. It smells like...well...gas. It's only when we go to light it. We get the adjacent gas boiler serviced every year without fail (even though we rarely use it). But the hob gets quite a lot of use. Is there any maintenance that needs to be carried out on these things or should be be concerned at all?

If you are getting a smell of gas of course you should be concerned stop using the appliance immediately and get a Rgi to check it out if you don't already know a Rgi check out www.rgii.ie and search for an installer in your area

Treat it as a gas leak till you know otherwise, turn it off at the meter and open a window then phone networks 1850 20 50 50 and report a leak.

Could possibly be a faulty gas valve either way you need to get an rgi approved installer to check it out, depending how old it is you should have a gas isolation valve for each appliance, switch off your gas and to that appliance at the isolation valve and call an RGI certified installer

EVERY gas appliance requires annual maintenance.
Usually with hobs, the taper gas valves within the unit dry out & pass gas. That's not to say something else is not leaking.
If you smell gas, exit the property, & turn off the gas at the meter & phone Bord Gais Networks on 1850 20 50 50. It is a free phone number & the call out is also free. They will be with you within an hour.
Nobody here can determine how bad the leak is, so best to be cautious. It will cost you nothing & could prevent an injury, etc.
