Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Best route Dublin - Letterkenny

Driving from Tallaght to Letterkenny soon, just wondering any opinions on best route?

Google suggest M50 to M1, off at Ardee then N2/A5 to Letterkenny.

Would M3/N3 to Cavan/Enniskillen etc. be any better/worse? Other alternative is M4/N4 to Sligo then north to Letterkenny. Probably at least 30 minutes longer.

We're in no rush as we'll be going early on a Saturday morning and it's the start of a ten day trip around Ireland visiting friends/relatives so time is not of the essence but we may as well avoid crappy roads.

N2/A5/N14 the whole way - then you're avoiding the toll on the M1 before the branch off for Ardee.
Although the Sligo run (long way round) is much more scenic IMO.

I always go the M1/N2/A5 route. Quickest by far.

This!, I drive up to Derry on a regular basis and this is the quickest route. Turn off at Strabane for Lifford and on to Letterkenny, this last stretch is the worst quality road. But it is in Donegal so what do you expect!
There is a turn off before Strabane going to Clady, I think it is shorter but I am not familiar with it so cannot say what the road quality etc is like.

Same as that. Quickest by far. Turn off M1 at Ardee

There are major roadworks between Monaghan town and Emyvale at the moment so you might be detoured.

The N3 option is awful. Eniskillen to Belleek is a terrible twisty road.

the starban - clady road is ok, its got some sever turns in it tho and i wouldnt feel comfterable doing more then 30/ 40mph on that road, but, if your going that way it knocks about 10 min off the trip.

i do this rout bi weekly,M50 to M1, off at Ardee then N2/A5 to Letterkenny. would be about 3 hours, theres road works atm the far side of monaghan to just outside emyvale, but, its a straight run and good roads the whole way.

the eniskellin rout would add atleast another hour to your trip.
