Great, I didn't think they'd have the second class so soon.

I thought that the first class were to replace the 10 esc's doing firefighter training in January.

Then I imagined each subsequent class would be to replace the next 10 esc's going firefighter training.....

Robbie who gave you 10th of October, when I was talking to Brian on Friday he said it still was not decided, now he did seem to think we we're starting early October alright

  • Registered Users Posts: 88 ✭✭Jim Royle

Robbie can FF and ESC's train in the OBI at the same time ? Or will the 2nd class of ESC's go in after the FF are finished training ??

  • Registered Users Posts: 61 ✭✭reddington

Robbie I just got an email , assuming you got the same one yea?

Lads what the fook is normal vision ?!?! Is it 20/20 vision ?? I wear glasses the last line of the eyechart is blurry for me when I am doing the test ...
Do I need to get my eyes lasered before I go in to the control room or just before I go for FF role ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 78 ✭✭Robbie154

I got the email Reddington yeah, it's go to be October 10th because....... If you start then your 10th and final week of training will be starting on December 19th and you would finish your training on Friday December 23rd. There's no way that the OBI or instructors are working over Christmas, I would say that we'll get a week or 2 off and then into the ERCC early January.

Go to Specsavers and get a free eye test and they will give you your exact score of vision, only then you'll know if you need laser or not

They also do free hearing tests where you sit in the booth and press the button when you hear a beep, the exact same as in the medical we'll do. Just in case anyone is worried about that side of things

Yes escs and firefighters can train at the same time.

Christmas off after training....don't count your chickens.

February 6th is over 6 months away, I wouldnt be so presumptuous that it is penned in for that date. However I do reckon it will be early in the new year

you got to count me out on that one too im afraid. It appears im not for the ESC role. However it appears i have been approved for the Firefighter role so we shall see where that bunny hole ends :P

Not too sure Jim. What number do you think they will get too for class 2? Will there even be a class 3 does anyone know?

  • Registered Users Posts: 88 ✭✭Jim Royle

Well if they are taking 10 for 1st class. They are at least going to take 8 if not 10 to class 2 ( I Would imagine !! ) But I could be wrong.. I am only guessing !! I would say there will be a 3rd class. How many going into that class only time will tell !!!

TJ best of luck in your FF training

All we need to do now is pass medical so we can do the physical test. Email this morning with YouTube videos. Looks easy enough.

Can you post the link to those videos? They're the CPAT one's I presume.

The ones that come from dcc are not for public viewing AFAIK. Plenty of very similar ones on YouTube if you search

Ye I can't upload the links on this as I'm a new user.

Claustrophobia Test ( crawl in dark confined space)

    Equipment Carry Test

    Ladder Climb Test

    Ladder Extension Test

Manual Dexterity test ( nuts & bolts assembly)

Rescue Sim test ( casualty drag )

    Sound.
For some reason I'm imagining that the nut's and bolts would be the curveball in that list....especially if it's timed and the nerves kick in.

You literally disassemble the nuts and bolts on one panel and you reassemble them on another. It's 4mins you have .

If someone in the top 10 and they fail the physical or medical will they call No 11 and so on so they have 10 people going in for training in October

yes BUT only if there is enough time to vet the next person and for them to give notice in there current roll. if you dont get a call 30 days before the class begins. its not going to come

Forget about the things that you'll actually be carrying during it. You could sub them for anything with a bit of weight.

I'd be just practicing straight 50m or 25m sprints back and forth in a field. Maybe if you could get your hands on some sandbags or something along those lines to use it would help when it comes to it.

Just remember, the lads that are there doing the test will do their best to help you not catch you out.

Thanks chungwun I was thinking water cooler bottles, are you encouraged or instructed to run during the test? I've seen some of the American vids online that say you must walk, but can't see any DFB vids

I'd encourage you to make sure you complete it within the allotted time. So practice and judge for yourself what pace you will need to go at

Hi lads, I was in on Monday morning there were 6 of us in total, difficult enough but all passed as far as I'm aware, i got conformation from DCC that I passed on Tues, theree some sort of paperwork delay now before job offers

  • Registered Users Posts: 88 ✭✭Jim Royle

Cheers for getting back David. Very strange there was only 6 of you in for the cpat ?! Or is that just me ?

Cant understand why there would be a delay in paperwork ? Or is this the norm in these type of positions ?

In anyway congrats on passing and please God me and I think another Dave will be put through our paces in the cpat as part of the 2nd class.

I was out on the test ground first at approx 0930, finished by 1000 but it was close to 1300 by the time we all left, (we arrived together we were dismissed together) I imagine that's the reason for groups of 6... It'd be unreasonable to test someone so ealrly and ask them to hang around any later, likewise it'd be unfair to ask someone to arrive at 0830 and not test them till the afternoon.... Regards paperwork your guess is as good as mine, there was another Dave being tested on Mon too, HQ will be full of us ðŸ˜႒

HQ will have a dave on every watch lol! What did you think was the hardest part of the cpat david-d? Been doing a fair bit of training for it myself over the past few weeks hopefully all will go well!

Hardest part of cpat is equipment carry, no question. The other 5exams are surprisingly handy, however if you put the effort in you'll be fine it's really just a matter of training for it. Also the fire gear fits pretty well so although it can be heavy it doesn't hinder your movement best of luck with it
