Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

As a LOI fan one of the joys is Groundhopping which is also huge in England and especially Germany. Nothing beats the magic of a foreign visit though. Found this fellow though hes brilliant. Even if you have no interest in Irish football he manages to roll in sociology and history. Check out his Pats video as well.

There are numerous German groundhopping websites and youtube videos that are worth perusing as well.

Off your list I can tick off Mainz, Real, Atletico, Aston Villa and Liverpool (the english one!).

Atletico were by far the friendliest and Real the most money grabbing. Only got to see a game o at Villa though. Smelly fans!

Ive been to Leicester about seven times but never got to see either their ground or go to a game.

Not many LOI grounds for me as I never had much interest outside Galway United. I spend quite a bit of time in Nice throughout the year and get to as many games as I can so have been to a few of the grounds in southern France and NW Italy.

    Galway United
    Sligo Rovers

    Liverpool
    Fulham
    Man City

There was a German lad working in Athlone for a few years who was big into groundhopping, was trying to do all the LOI stadia and had been to loads all over Europe. Nice lad, can't remember his real name for the life of me but he went by "Grounded" on the ATFC forum.

The German pyramid system is massive and not all of their stadiums are huge obviously but heres an interesting site

Wow lads, some list of stadia there :) Whenever I travel somewhere I always have to visit a stadium, whether it's for a game or just to check it out. I've done feck all so far, but moving to Germany in the next couple of months so I want to catch as many stadia as possible. Here's my pitiful list:

Amsterdam Arena (probably the best stadium I've been to)
    Emirates
    Turners Cross
    Cobh Ramblers
    Etihad
Olympic Stadium (Berlin - €9 for two tickets, albeit Bundesliga 2 but still bang for buck)
    Lansdowne Road (of course)

Belgium is on my list of grounds when I make the move to the continent.

I see loads of people have bee to Belfield Park and I remember going there years ago to see UCD playing Cork City. Dermot Morgan used to go every now and again to support UCD and he was asked why he went to UCD of all clubs. His answer: "I hate crowds".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,565 ✭✭✭losthorizon

Looking through that site in 2010 he took in two games in Ireland. One of them in the "A" League. He doesnt in the main go for big games or teams. Apologies Tullamore!

Stadium in Faro Portugal for the Euros years ago (cant remember who plays in it now)

A team in the 3rd tier of Portuguese football called Louletano play there.

I went to see them in 2010. Barely 200 people on a 30,000 capacity stadium

    Some impressive lists above!

    I've been to:

    Tolka Park
    RDS (Shamrock Rovers era)
    Belfield
    Lansdowne Road
    Croke Park

I've been to shockingly few in Ireland, but abroad it gets more varied:

    Atletico Madrid (Vicente Calderon)
    Real Madrid (Bernabeu)
    Rayo Vallecano (Estadio de Vallecas)
Rayo Vallecano B (Ciudad deportiva de Vallecas)
    Fuenlabrada (The Fernando Torres stadium)
    Alcala de Henares (No idea!)
    Salamanca (El Helmantico)
    Valladolid (Juan Zorilla)
Segoviana (Don't remember, but a rum and coke cost 3.50!)
    Barcelona (Camp Nou)

    Poznan Stadium
    Gdansk Arena

    Napoli (San Paolo)
    Inter/AC Milan (San Siro)

It's not the greatest of lists really, hopefully I can add a few more to it soon. All the obscure Spanish ones were following Salamanca, but unfortunately they are now out of business :(

The game was between Africa Sports and team called Mimosas.

Think both clubs have been the top clubs in country with 1 or 2 others.

One of the more safer places to watch football match in Africa for White male.(there was 10-12 of us so we stood some chance)

Of the 3 or 4 games I saw in Africa it was by far the best quality.

Riots are common enough, but we saw nothing but good banter and enjoyable. Only downside was the smell around place. Thats for another day:pac:
