7k is nothing compared to what they save in wage and tax. Even more of a slap in the face!

The govt gives them 7k if they take the intern on, regardless of his performance.

Too true with the last point...

Do you think this primary school in Meath would be happy to publicise they will be paying a qualified teacher on jobbridge the Dole+€50.

St. Brigids National School, Meath Hill

    This has been taken down?
    Just showing an error now

Thanks, I tried loading it 3-4
    Times and no joy.
After you posted I tried again
and it loaded, tbh that is a crazy internship.
It just goes to show that this
    Scheme is a farce.

Do you get the Irish amount or would you be getting the rate of dole offered in your new country of residence?

I lost my job this year, was only their 10 months. Got let go , he said I wasn't needed anymore which is fair the place was read most days. Less then a week later theirs an internship up for my position. Irony is im on an internship now and I actually like it as their treating me fair and paying for a few courses for me like manual handling. Safe pass etc. Think I got a lucky pick their tbh as I know most exploit

Nope, have read a lot about the scheme, and have never, ever heard that. I can't any reference to this anywhere. Can you show where this is stated? Thanks.

I think he means Job Plus. Time spent on JobBridge is taken into account. http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employment/unemployment_and_redundancy/employment_support_schemes/jobsplus.html

Maybe theres been a good few viewing as I've posted it over in the T&L forum.
I know teachers get little sympathy these days, but didn't realise how much the profession has gone to pot.
Would parents be happy knowing that their teacher is getting the dole while the teacher next door gets full wage?
Some of the ads are a bit shy in stating whether the ' intern' would be actually assigned a particular class, so they could claim that they are just doing paperwork. However, its obvious that the intern is doing some other teacher's work.

"Jeez lads Im wrecked from the weekend and have Junior infants after break... where's the slave with my class plans and coffee.."

The unions in Ireland have a lot to answer for.

It's possible but unlikely. It's his job to know the scheme.

Was it JobPlus as someone said above? Different thing from being given €7,000 to take on someone straight out of Jobbridge. Why take someone on for €7000 when you can get another free intern?

Well, I have my problems with the teaching profession in Ireland but I do know that it's a draining, full-on job that needs fair payment.

Ah yeah its just the job is advertised at the top as PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER so it stinks to high heaven.

An employer can't lay anyone off 3 months prior to signing up for jobbridge.

Couldn't be, I wasn't on the live register for 12 months which is a prerequisite for jobsplus.

Then he must have been misinformed. Honestly, it being his job doesn't mean he's competent!

My current jobbridge position was originally filled by someone who they ended the contract with (after 2 years, he wanted a permanent contract and made a bit of noise, and so they didn't renew it when it was up). I am working in a prior paid position, not a newly made position as an intern.

I know my example is tiny, but who knows how common this practice is, or will become.

From dealing with FAS i don't think you need to be competent to get a job there.

Getting an angry phone call because i never turned up to an interview arranged for a CE Scheme. I said i got no letter he asks my address he had took it down wrong and sent it to the wrong house.

Then a mix up after i informed him my hotmail email address was hacked and sent him on my new email. Then again an angry phone call because i ignored emails after he forgot to update my details.

I have very little or no faith in FAS i wondered how some of them actually had jobs while other good people couldn't find work.

Friend worked in a small office that was doing well. He was their a few years and specialised in a cetain area where even the manager wouldn't be an expert at. He along with the manager interviewed to hire two interns for my friend to train to help reduce his workload. He was in his last year of his contract and he was concerned he was training these interns in his role. The manager kept putting off his request to talk about a new contract. So after the interns where their two weeks he demanded contract talks to which the manager said once his contract was up in 6 month's he wouldn't be renewing it.

My friend was an expert in a certain field so after two weeks of searching he found a job. He handed in his notice and said he would work two weeks in hand before his new job. The boss went ballistic talking about reporting him etc until my friend threatened to report him for trying to hire interns to replace him.

So this left the boss and two interns who had very little idea of how to deal with this type of work to complete a load of work for clients on time. My friend was talking to a former workmate who said loads of clients left because their work was behind schedule and full of errors. The boss hired another employee in this field but it was too late he lost loads of clients and a fortune. It's good to hear stories like this of greedy owners trying to abuse the system for profit to lose a fortune.

No he is correct, when you are on JobBridge you are taken off the live register, but you are still seen as being unemployed by the Social Welfare.

For example, if John was unemployed for 3 months before he started his 9 month internship and he lasted till the end, he will be 12 months unemployed and the host company could keep him on and avail of a payment of €7,500 over two years.

If a person had been unemployed for 15 months before he did an 9 month internship and lasted till the end, the host company could keep him on and avail of a payment of €10,000 over two years.

All these payments are coming from the government, a friend of mine is on it and he did well in his internship, they hired him full time and use this payment to pay him, he is on minimum wage and only does about 30 hours a week so technically they have near enough to free labour or half price labour depending on wages.

    It's a symbiotic agreement really:

    People get jobs,

    Companies get cheap labor,

And the government gets to message the unemployment figures.

How is a person being paid full rate exploited? The government scheme is creating a job for that person that otherwise wouldn't exist.

Because they are expected to work up to 40 hours a week for significantly less than the minimum wage.
