You are missing the entire point. It is not something you require nine months for.
It's same with the waiter jobs or a cleaning job. it's not important if I want to do it or not. It's important that it's not something you need to train for nine months for.
But if you're not interested in taking the placement then it's utterly irrelevant. Why complain that a placement you're not interested in is too long? That doesn't make sense to me. Just find something you are interested in and do that.

Okay. Stop typing things. You have zero f**king idea of anything to do with this topic and you don't deserve to have an opinion.

You don't even realize it's not custom timed. It's nine months. Period. Learn what the damn scheme is about before you reply again please.

I posted up about six months ago that I got myself an jobridge internship as a front-end web developer/graphic designer.

I had no experience. Had completed a four month course in digital web design in FAS and was just after starting a 6 month part-time night course in web development in NCI.

Just under a month left and I'm glad to report the experience has been great and the company offered me a position full-time.

Ah, here now, don't be talking up the scheme!!

Glad it worked out for you. I'd done one and got a job at the end. It is office work, but we both used the time to make sure I was right for the job. It's a specialised field and I needed to be able to multitask. It can work out. I DO understand the annoyance at the car valeters and shelf stacking ones. They ARE taking the pee, but if people just don't apply for them, they won't be fille.

An internship as a FUCKING CAR WASHER?!

I'd say that's the third dumbest thing you've ever said when you include your ignorance of how the Internet works.
I love that you went to the effort of writing a list. That's hilarious, you think that time could be spent more efficiently?

I used car washer as an example of a dumb internship someone mentioned earlier but if you'd read the thread instead of writing lists you'd know that. :D

lol actually I think I have a much better idea than you do if you think people have to take up crappy internships instead of just skipping past them and applying for something useful.

Do you have a degree? If so look for something in that area. If there's nothing available ring up some local companies in that industry and ask if they would consider taking you on in a jobbridge scheme.

Okay, since you're lying now. Do be helpful and find out where I said "they have to" or gave that impression.

I'll wait. If you can't, kindly stop trying to act like you have any idea of anything.

You said people shouldn't complain about such bullshit internships being put forward.

Did you read the rest of my post? It's quite constructive advice for someone in your position.

No. See, your'e getting into the argument of "well this is about you". IT's not about me.

So either provide proof or shut up with your idiotic lies.

I don't understand why people would complain. Just skip over it and apply for something you do want to do.

Again, that's irrelevant. I want you to show me where I stated they have to take that internship.

Ok so if your problem isn't with people having to take crappy internships then what is your problem?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,939 ✭✭✭✭PopePalpatine

Why might they complain? Perhaps it's because it's replacing an entry-level job! That could have been a job that a student could do to earn a little extra money. The same goes for the waiter/waitress internships, the shop assistant internships and all of the bull**** internships that previous posters listed.

Okay at this stage I'm guessing you're purposely playing the ignorant foolish person for the fun of it.

Me and many others have explained it to you several times. YOu can feel free to ignore it if you like.

Two million people at work, 6,000 on Jobbridge, 3 car valet vacancies, 4 for waiter/waitress available. Some people have an exaggerated view of the effect of the scheme. Far more placements available for archictects than waitresses, 16.

But how can you say it's replacing an entry level job? Perhaps it's creating a job that would otherwise not exist because the company isn't willing to pay minimum wage for that position?

No because an internship is not a job and is not classified as a job.

To do so would be against what the scheme is for. If the company is unwilling to create a job it shouldn't use this scheme to bypass the minimum wage.

Seriously? You're actually going to argue over semantics?

The whole purpose of this scheme is to bypass minimum wage laws so companies can provide entry level positions. That's what it's for if minimum wage laws weren't so high we wouldn't need jobbridge.

Semantics are quite important when you have two different words to denote two different things. Like "job" and "internship".

It's not semantics. It's not a job and companies using job bridge to bypass the min wage should be reported and barred from using this scheme.

An internship is a job. Before jobbridge was ever conceived internships have always been jobs.

lol you have a great attitude.

Jobbridge isn't about money the purpose of the scheme is to gain experience in your chosen field.

I thought it was to bypass the minimum wage? According to you?

You get paid the minimum wage for doing a job. A job bridge isn't a job and therefore not about the money.

Companies that use the job bridge to replace actual jobs are the reason it gets a bad name despite the success stories we have seen here.

There are currently 2772 vacancies nationally, 62 in County Louth. There must be 15,000 unemployed in Louth. How does the Dole pick out which unemployed person they will force on to a placement? It must be a bit of a lottery.
