Reaching from the coast as far north as Mitchelstown now and seems to be still growing.

Dropping some rain on me now , I'm to the west of the action so looks like I'll miss the best of it this time

Radar has us in a gap, main action now sort of stuck north of here.

Yeah, not a patch on 1985, but that was extreme.

1985 was the Dogs..... I could tell stories. I'm lucky that I witnessed the snow of '82, electrical storms of 85 and 86 and Hurricane Charlie!

Bad lightning and thunder in east cork. Massive flash and thunder outside house. Lashing rain now and power outages.

It was a bit before my time, but I've heard and read many things about it :) Twitter and Facebook went mad very briefly with posts from those in Dublin, but the hype died down very quickly. My desk lamp flickered a couple of times, I could have sworn I heard thunder, but that was it!

The only two thunderstorms I remember at night was the one from 1997 (I think it was), and during the snow of 2010.

When should north dublin get hit?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,942 ✭✭✭missingtime

Really eerie. No wind, no rain, no thunder. Just lightning.

  • Registered Users Posts: 932 ✭✭✭snowstorm445

Only really heard a few rumbles here south of Cork city. The storm looks like its pulling away northward.

The worst of it has wrapped around and missed me in D15 from north Kildare to our friend in Ashbourne, i swear its followed the County boundaries. We had 2 short sprinkles and a distant rumble

Looks like the breadth of ppn on the radar is increasing with every update. The whole country is starting to bubble. I did not expect this. Long night ahead. Multiple storms.

    Finally power is back!

Probably a main fuse at a sub station.
Also when thunder is bad in an area,Esb technicians flick the switches to save damage.

Last year's one here in Cork around June was incredible. One of the loudest I've heard, and torrential rain as well.

Lots of great flashes there for the last 20 mins or so. Our lights and stuff went off for a bit. No thunder though.

Great view of it from where we are.
