Any chance of some activity making its way towards Kilkenny/Waterford area?

Equilibrium level is -40°C which means towers have a free path all the way to 34,000ft which is our tropopause.
I'd say there are overshooting tops on the Meath cells.

Lashed out of it here in Trim, with some fireworks to go with it.

Not long Pad. Diurnal heating is the trigger
MLCAPE is quite good so if we had more shear they could have gone on for a few hours after sunset.

Could be added forcing from an upper jet but i'm not sure

Are there any sources for some kind of 'a beginners guide to reading summer/thunderstorm charts' (a-la the ones which exist for winter/snow charts).

CAPE will be back down to the low-mid hundreds by around 9pm.

Southern aspect of that cell slamming Meath at the moment. The height of it is something else.

I heard the rumbles from it near Mondello, had to rush to get the BBQ finished, it's got extremely hot in the last hour, temp reading 23.4 now, humidity is only @ 55% though, temps gone up nearly a degree in the last hour.

I'm sure Karl won't mind me linking to this here.

    http://www.irelandsweather.com/forum/index.php?topic=1138.0

It's a good introduction and explains a lot of the terms and ingredients needed etc.

Had a nice little thunderstorm earlier, plenty of lightning but no forks.
That storm over north meath earlier must have been impressive, could here almost continuous thunder from it in the distance for nearly half an hour.

I've given up hope now were too close to the coast, Storms are literally forming over my head now and heading north.

    Bollocks anyway

Lightning is decreasing quickly now across the country

Southeast wasn't in a great spot for storms today because of the southwest-northeast motion. At least it's been mostly nice and dry though. :pac:

I was out kayaking on the Shannon this afternoon when a cell blew up over us. I had the GoPro with me, so I got some footage of the strikes.

Here's a still from my video..
    lBvKjXe.jpg

Some crack of thunder off that particular one. Wasn't too happy to be paddling on the river with sharp-edged paddles, so we got to the bank, balled up away as far from the trees as we could, and watched the show. At least the paddling gear meant the torrential rain wasn't an issue. I would have preferred to have been in the car a half-mile downstream, but it wasn't safe to do anything else.

Was that today ? We are leading a charmed life here. Storms to west and east of us for majority of the day. Avoided us again :)
