Usually get mine on ebay.co.uk with free delivery from Hong Kong.

For Example:

16 X Ni-MH AAA 1000mAh 1.2V Rechargeable Battery for £3.54

or

16 pcs AAA 3A 1800mAH 1.2V Ni-MH Red Color Rechargeable Battery Cell for £4.10

You'll probably find cheaper if you surf around a bit on ebay
