Anyone got any idea of the itinerary of the large ship that's visiting Galway today? Will it be around long and where might be the best place to see it?

It is currently passing Spiddal, AFAIK it will anchor off Mutton Island about 13:00 and stay until Tuesday.

Last update I heard was on Friday so things could have changed slightly.

It's due in about one today and to leave around 11 tomorrow night. Think its going to be out around the lighthouse so you should get a good look from the Prom. If the Big Wheel is up in Leisureland it could be a good spot for photos.
I had actually forgotten about it so thanks for the reminder :-)

edit: Rob beat me to it.

It's a bit ahead of schedule. Coming up to Barna now.

For anyone who hasn't heard, the liner is "The World", 196 metres long, 30 metres wide, has 12 decks, and weighs 43,524 tonnes.

Unlike regular passenger cruise liners, The World has 165 residential units (106 apartments, 19 studio apartments, and 40 studios), all owned by the ship's residents. It carries between 100 and 300 residents and their guests. A suite on board The World will set you back $13.5 million, with monthly fees of $20,000.

It's an odd concept, a residential community floating around the world from port to port.

On one hand it'd be gas craic going from place to place, checking out different cities and places and going back home each night, like a surreal parrallel existance, never really living anywhere.

Even if you only stayed for a while at a time you'd have to fly all the way to where it is and stay for your holidays and then fly back from wherever.

On the other hand i'd never go on a cruise for my holidays so this would be pretty similar.

I wonder is there tax implications for staying on board for a given amount of days in the year?

What's it's shelf life? A few mil seems like a lot to pay for something that'll eventally rust?

    Is there a Nandos?

    So many questions :(

Nice ship but would not be regarded as a very large ship in today's terms.
For example the Queen Mary 2 has a tonnage of 148,528 to the world's 43,524 tonnes.

Still great to have it - hopefully the millionaires spend plenty of money in Ireland.

Yeah, she's relatively small but it's nice to see a vessel like that in the bay! Something like the QMII or the Oasis of the Seas mightn't get as far into the bay by virtue of their size anyway. Wonder if I can stoaway! :)

How long is it here for? Hopefully it will keep us entertained until the Arts Festival starts

Sadly no Tugboats! It's heading off again later tonight. You know those millionaires have short attention spans!
