I certainly didnt see any tourists or locals turning away and I was there from before 4.30 to around 8pm. Plenty of people went in and out of the building. to max powers: you seem to have a fascination with my age and picking 1 phrase from my posts to insult me about, also you didnt comment on the fact that the SW (1st) funeral march blocked half the quay for a couple of hours

not so much a fascination yeah but astonishment at the immaturity, lack of knowledge of those posts. by the way, its wasnt just one phrase in your posts, pretty much all of it was the spoutings of a person who has not a sensible rounded educated political opinion. First stop for yourself would be to educate yourself what fascism is. Whats the SW funeral March? if this march was for the good of the city like the WRH campaign, well planned, public well warned then i would support it. At no stage did the WRH marches look like a bunch of idiots jostling TDs. Im pretty sure SW or any party had nowt to do with that and was organised by those 2 ladies.

Clowns do stupid things but at least they are funny.

Wait a generation and the country will be up and running... why not show some patience.

The government are doing their best, they are the best in Europe, that's why they are most highly paid despite governing a small country. We have the best public sector in Europe too, how else can retired teachers earn pensions worth €1.5m to €2m when valued? They must be good.

See these guys are outside House of Waterford Crystal again this afternoon. I was standing at pedestrian crossing beside 6 U.S tourists who decided amongst themselves they would not cross the road and visit the tourist attraction(that looked like it was been picketed) because of it. I know the council offices are above it but they don't know that even though I did say this to them.

Fair play guys, that's how to revive the economy, drive tourists away.

Was that you that i seen in geoffs last night thomasm?

I have highlighted the important words in the chain for those who fail to see (or chose not to see) the link between the previous Government policies and what Waterford has become today..;)

Socialist workers - moronic protests - immature - blinkered - no one takes them seriously

Just to be clear and I think most people saw it as being very clear, M Cullen has nothing to do with SW's moronic protests outside our tourist attractions and/or this thread, any direct link doesnt exist any link at all is extremely tenuous at the most

As I said earlier in the thread, I was there and I am not a member of the SWP or any other political party for that matter, not everyone who was there is.

Its funny how people are continuing to refuse to protest and use words like moronic, immature and blinkered to describe those who do, even just days after it was revealed that the property tax money is going to pay bondholders and that the next budget will be an austerity budget. No, its not funny, its actually embarrassing.

You know what I hate about all these debates and rantings? Firstly, the generalisations, because while the majority probably are members of left wing groups or have hidden agenda - not everybody does. I'd prefer not to be lumped into this bracket and I would see a small part of what some of the protesters raise.

Then, you have people on the anti-government side who jump around when a tabloid publishes a story that later turns out to be incorrect but they keep jumping and pretend the update never happened.

I'd much prefer we had a more open honest and upfront debate about such societal issues, from both sides and a bit less of the painting everyone with the same brush. Again, on both sides.

    /rant

Sully, do you really expect anybody to believe that the (almost) identical amounts of: cuts to local authorities (to repay bondholders) and money generated by the property tax (to fund local authorities) have nothing to do with each other????? The "blinkered" reference can work the other way too.

Just because the government issued a statement denying it doesnt mean the story wasnt true- as it presently stands the fellow who broke the story is standing by every word that he wrote.

As for other posts saying the protesters were moronic or members of the swp-I attended different protests over the years over different issues at different ones the swp and sinn fein attended with their party banners-just because there is party banners at protests doesnt automatically mean everyone that is there is a member or involved with the swp or sinn fein.

They are following the formula of their fellow travellers Sinn fein a cynical grab at publicity, chose a high profile topic or venue and use it to promote your little cause immaterial to the other repercussions it has on anyone else.
That is the answer no other.
