    Hi,

I recently noticed that my fuse board in my house had a couple of strands of earth tied down to my mains neutral back in the box. Looks completely dodgy.
there is only a main L & N running to the house

If a new earth rod was driven down and all my earths were tied to this would that be sufficient? Also would the N and E be joined at the consumer unit?

As it is an old house should an RCBO be installed for the en suite and bathroom or would 1 cover both?

    Any info would be great

the consumers earth(MPC) is taken from the neutral at the esb cut-out usually

an earth rod is also driven down and connected to earth bar(MET) at consumer unit

bathroom? hard to tell from the info

maybe you should get an inspection

    Thanks Mike.

I'll have to have another look but there doesn't seem to be a physical terminal for the earth at the main fuse board.
I thought if a new 16sq twin and earth was ran to the fuse board from the consumer unit and the earth from that cable was joined to the rod it would cover it. Still not sure if the neutral and earth should be joined at the consumer unit?

As for the bathroom and ensuite there will be a couple of lights and a shaver socket in each one

    consumer unit?

    fuseboard?

    i'm confused there?

    bathroom lighting it depends?

230v fittings in the bathroom zones require an rcbo

Consumer unit - inside house with MCB'S RCD'S ect.
Main Fuse board - outside house with ESB supply

Thats the best way i can describe it.

Ok i'll need to get an RCBO in then

    thanks for your help

one wire connects to earthrod .............................from your consumer unit earth terminal

one wire connects to esb neutral(in meterbox) .......from your consumer unit earth terminal

    2 separate cables

there should be no N-E link in consumer unit normally
