Tunnel near Loretto school Dalkey

Hey all, I had always heard of this tunnel through the grapevine and last week finally found it. It is down the strange lane beside the loretto sports grounds, if you go down far enough you can find it mostly bricked up. I being too much a wimp clearly didn't try to climb in... but was wondering if any brave souls out…

Hey all,

I had always heard of this tunnel through the grapevine and last week finally found it. It is down the strange lane beside the loretto sports grounds, if you go down far enough you can find it mostly bricked up.

I being too much a wimp clearly didn't try to climb in... but was wondering if any brave souls out there had? Where does it go? And how far does it run?

You get to the end, and to the right we have the bricked up doorway/tunnel:

Great pics, there was a huge tunnel thread about 3 years ago, did a search and can't find it, maybe someone can remember what forum

I went down it a few times when I was a kid. It's thought to lead to the island but its blocked, there is a fork after while that leads to an altar thought to be used before catholic emancipation
The altar is painted red
