Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So we have reached the 2nd Semi Final stage and it's Redzerdrog vs Jax Teller up now.

As in previous rounds ill throw up a poll once both participants have done a write up and you can all then post and vote with regards which team you think would win if both sides faced off against each other with players picked considered in their prime when picked. Until they have posted these write ups we ask you don't post your opinions but once they do they would be really appreciated as would be your votes because as we have seen in previous match ups even 1 vote can make a massive difference and all votes are counted.

Who's team would progress to the final? 9 votes

Will go through my team for now and will wait for Jax to reply before arguing the merits of his team.

    Goalkeeper
Well there is not much I can say about Peter Schmeichel apart from he is the greatest keeper I have ever seen.

    Defence
Everyone seems to think they have the best defence in the draft but I think mine is up there with the best. In CB I have the best Defender I have ever seen play the game and he is rated as one of the very best CBs ever to play the game. He will oraganise things from the back, sweep up in behind and can carry the ball out if needed. Beside him I have the perfect partner in a peak Vidic, before he got injured he was the best CB on the planet and his comanding presence is the perfect foil for Baresi.

I have an excellent set of full backs firstly Philip Lahm has been the best fullback in the world for the best part of the last decade he can do everything needed of a fullback, can attack when needed and is rock solid in defence. At left back I have former Real Madrid and Spain left full Jose Camacho winning 9 league titles amongst others and is regarded as one of the very best left fulls to have ever played the game. To get him in round 10 was great considering some of the players who went before him.

    Midfield
Simeone and Gerson are a very well balanced partnership. Simeone will play as a dm and as we seen as the main man in Argintinas midfield throughout his career he can is a very rounded dm. His partner is World Cup winner Gerson who will play as a deep lying playmaker, this is the man that orchestrated Brazils world cup win in 1970 and he will control this game from CM. Again great value as a 9th round pick considering the CMs gone before him.

Figo and Giggs are perfect for my team. Figo at the turn of the century was the best player on the planet and unlike so many in this draft he was a natural winger. On the other side I have the most natural winger to play the game in Ryan Giggs and a peak Ryan Giggs was phenomenal. Any time of think of him I just remember that goal against Arsenal in 99.

    Attack
In the hole is the greatest ever player to play for Englands most successfull team, King Kenny Dalglish. I cant remember seeing him live but I have seen so many videos of this guy and he was something special. He played an integral part in 3 european cups and 6 league title for a dominant Liverpool team. He scored 260 goals in his career which is a great return from a second striker not to mention his countless assists. Although known for his attacking play he was well capable of dropping deap and digging out in midfield and Liverpool often used him this way during tough away trip in europe.

Romario is one of the greatest goal scorers to ever play the game. during the 1994 world cup he carried Brazil to win it and was the best player on the planet during this time. Prob the most natural goalscorer to ever play the game

    Overall
I think my team is well balanced and was planned out to be so. I can't understand picking players and then playing them out of position. With my team everyone is in their best position and the fluidity of the team in both defence and attack should be a match for anyone on their day.

    Neuer

Bayern & Germany No.1 for the last few years and the best keeper in the world at the moment in my opinion. Bayern splashed out €22m for him making him the second most expensive goalkeeper ever.
Goalkeeper of the year in the Bundesliga this year.

    Suurbier

He was so quick and had so much style, that he was the right back, right midfielder and right winger at the same time, he also had great stamina so getting back into position was no problem. Suurbier was a key member of the dominant Ajax side which won 6 consecutive Eredivisie titles & 3 consecutive European cups in the late 60s early 70s.

    Santamaria

A strong, uncompromising player, known for his high stamina and consistency, he was indispensable for the Real Madrid team which won three consecutive European Cups, five La Liga titles and the World Club Cup. Should have won a World Cup in 1950 with Uruguay but his club wouldn't let him play in the tournament. One of a handful of players to have played at a World Cup for 2 different countries.

    Lucio

A strong centre-back with a good aerial ability and ability to start attacks from the back. A great leader for his country Brazil. One of the best defenders of the last 10 or 12 years.

    Marzolini

A left back who starred for Argentina through the 1960s with defensive strength and aerial ability with great skill on the ball and an attacking instinct which gave him huge influence over the whole left side of the pitch.
(Bobby Charlton named him in the back 4 for his perfect 11 alongside Djalma Santos, Beckenbauer & Bobby Moore. I'll take his word that he was very good.)

    Deschamps (C)

Deschamps a World cup and European championship winning captain, kept Makelele out of the French team for years , that proves how good he was to me .A player once described as a water carrier by Eric Cantona. Basically his job is to protect the back 4 and give the attacking players the ball to play with and he does a pretty good job of that.

    Pirlo

Simply put one of the finest deep lying playmaker to have played the game. Praised for his technique, dribbling, control, incredible vision, inventive play and his accurate passing ability, he is also a set-piece specialist and is known for his long distance shooting and passing. A key player in the Italian national team since his debut in 2002, Pirlo won the 2006 World Cup and put in some wonderful performances in helping his side to the final of Euro 2012 where they were beaten by Spain.

    Iniesta

Guardiola once said to this Xavi about Iniesta “You're going to retire me. This lad is going to retire us all." One of the most important players behind Barcelona’s & Spain’s success over the past 6 or 7 years. Versatile, intuitive, masterful, a midfield maestro.

    Ribery

Fast, tricky and an excellent dribbler he has great control with the ball at his feet. Many would have questioned his defensive work rate before this season but he has improved on that massively. Whether he’s cutting in onto his favoured right foot or going down the line with his left foot he is always a danger. Voted Bundesliga player of the year for 12/13

    Bale

Excellent going forwards, with a goal-scoring touch. He can deliver a great cross on the run and he is also a free-kick specialist. Maybe some will say he can’t play on the right but I feel he has proven over the past year or 2 he can play there.
PFA Player of the year for 12/13

    Ronaldo

One of the most complete strikers of all time, 467 goals in 678 games for club & country. Record goal scorer in World Cup history. Pacey, intelligent, skilful & an excellent finisher. One of 3 players to win have won Fifa World player of the year 3 times.

Bit of useless trivia : My first 3 picks Roanldo, Iniesta & Pirlo have been the Man of the Match in the last 3 World Cup Finals.

To be fair I think I'm up against a great side here but I do believe I will cause him problems , whether or not it's enough to win the game I'll let the voters decide .

    This is very tight.
Two superb goadscorers, two excellent goalies and some brilliant players in between. Not sure how pirlo and inesta would work together.
Slightly prefer the figo giggs wingers over the Bale ribbery.
To be honest not sure that bale or giggs are up there with some of the wingers on other teams but this is about a match between these 2 teams.
    Just about give to redzer.

I vote Redzerdrog. Better wingers, better full backs, better playmaker, better central defenders and better goalkeeper.

    Redzerdog for me.

    - Superior defence
    - Superior keeper
    - More balanced attack

In Jax's midfield 3, I see too many conducters, with no real conduit to get the ball to Ronaldo in good positions. Yes, Iniesta could provide this outlet, but even when he plays in more advanced positions for Spain and Barca, he benefits from having another link between himself and the centre-forward (be it false or otherwise), which simply isn't there.

This, I feel, would force a lot of Jax's moves down the flanks, with which I think Redzer's defence will be able to cope. Bale and Ribery cutting inside is certainly an option, but they are both very direct players, who I don't see having the guile to cut open Redzer's back 4, once the latter are in position - a combination of Simeone and Baresi will have little difficulty closing off these channels. Thus, Jax, imo, is looking at counter-attacks as the principle source of goals.

Redzer, on the other hand, has more options. Figo cutting in from the right offers far more than Bale or Ribery coming in from their flank. He will have a field day cutting in, playing off Kenny, and opening up a huge amount of space for Lahm on the overlap. Kenny is also a nice conduit to take the ball from centre mids, or from deeper positions. I just see more space being created this way, more defenders being pulled out of position, and ultimately more situations where Romario gets the ball in space, nearer to the goal. Giggs' more classic style of wing play then just balances off the flexibility of this attack.

Jax shades it for me, very even match. Just prefer his attack slightly, think it'll be quick and cause issues

I think the biggest weakness in Jaxs team is the inclusion of bale on the right wing. I honestly think this is the worst pick in the entire draft. To have the choice of any player in the history of the game and then pick someone who has done sfa in game and stick him out of position is a major flaw. Dont get me wrong I am a fan of Bale as a left winger but even at that he would just be an ok pick.

    Goalkeepers
I think I win this hands down with Schmeichel over Neaur who I feel is a level below the standard required here as one of the top 16 keepers of all time

    Defence
Again I think I win this hands down in both at full backs and the center half partnerships

    Midfield
Jax is prob stronger here but I like the balance of mine. I think there is sometime missing in Jaxs midfield and although Iniesta is a class act I think Jaxs team with deaschamps and pirlo would have been better served with more of a trequartista

    Attack
I think I win this again hands down. My attack is far better ballanced with giggs and figo on the wings and Kenny linking play from the hole with Romario one of the greatest goalscorers of all time leading the line. I do like Ronaldo and he is prob my favourite player ever but I just dont see him getting enough supply here and if he does I think my defence is more equipped to handle him.
