Any word on the PC version getting more user friendly console like menus and more importantly a user friendly way of setting up a server and joining multiplayer races?

Its an absolute joke ar the moment, especially that over complicated server setup.

That's the word around the campfire alright. I promised Savoury that I'd try AC with my old Fanatec before and after the patch just to see what's what. I was on to Game UK this morning because my order is still showing as unshipped. The guy told me that 97% of their games reach their customers by release date. I know my own luck, I'll be in the 3% for sure!

Good idea trying it before and after installing the patch to see if they really did change anything or if it's just not compatible with your model fanatec.
Ah fingers crossed for him they have some level of compatibility and leave it in there.
Hearing now aswell that apparently there is no private servers/rooms which is disappointing. Hopefully they add that in soon if it's true.
Anyone know if the console versions support USB keyboard for inputs like pcars? Thinking about building a diy button box but in 2 minds if it cant work with assetto corsa on PS4.

It's been confirmed online that Fanatec support has been nuked by the patch, no private lobbies is a bit of a sickener alright. Maybe they expect folk to rent servers like they do with Battlefield?
As for your button box, I've read that there is no option for custom button mapping as yet.

I can live with all of that so long as the ffb and physics are as good as people say they are, that's all I really care about.

I love AC, put a serious amount of time into it.
I'm torn between it and Automobilista as my favourite, just happy to have both :)

For me Automobilista has the best force feedback by far of any sim, I would also argue its physics thanks to reizas` physics god Niels Heusinkveld are slightly better too.
Its not as pretty as AC but for sheer volume of content plus leading FFB and physics in one pack its unbeatable imo, it was officially released today.

slightly OT I know but any PC sim fan really should check it out.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,716 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

Some feedback on various sim forums on the console version mention framerate issues, screen tearing and AI not up to the standard of the PC version.
Anyone following the development of AC since early access on PC a number of years back will recall the problems the devs struggled with when tying to code decent AI, it was a nightmare and AI took a long time to be even a feature [yes AC had no AI for a loooong time] and even then they were terrible when it did arrive.
The devs went to great pains to get AI you could race with to where it is today ie okay but not amazing either, I really hope the experience of a great sim is not ruined by dodgy AI on console,at the very least it needs to be at PC level.

I'm not surprised to hear about some of the problems folk are reporting. Very few games release ready to go these days it seems.
In fairness though, in comparison to the problems PCars shipped with, AC's seem fairly minor.
I can't wait to get my copy, it's 50/50 whether it'll arrive tomorrow.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,716 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

PCARS just sucked more than anything else, still does :)

I wouldn't call major fps drops minor tbh, framerate directly affects car control so if its as unstable as some suggest it is a major issue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,531 ✭✭✭Titzon Toast

I think a lot of folk are exaggerating the fps drops though, lots of guys over on GTplantet are singing it's praises .
It's just a game of wait and see at the moment.

As for PCars? I lost interest in it a long time ago, some cars handle well and some just handle like shopping trollies.
The ffb is a hot mess too.

I'm praying that the physics and ffb in AC are as intuitive as I've heard.

I don't think you will be disappointed.Console users will at last be able to play a true sim.I hope you guys enjoy it.

Played it this morning on Xbox One for the first time, only had 5 minutes on it before I had to go to work. Anybody have some good controller settings as I really struggled for the 2 minutes I played, I had all aids turned off though which might have been a mistake this early, looking forward to getting stuck into it over the next few weeks.

Really wish I had a wheel and PC for this game.

Sucks more than I could have imagined, literally drove one lap and turned off.
I will be trading it in for gran turismo very soon

I still haven't received my copy yet so I can't comment.
ThurlesDrunk tells me it's excellent altogether though.

Did you not know it's a realistic sim and not simcade like GT? Wheel or joypad?

Is that because you're struggling to drive the car or because there's actual issue with the game?

The online I find is really bad for glitching and the fact the you cannot host a private lobby is really annoying.

Yeah I was really looking forward to a proper sim but maybe I'm missing something but I find the handling very sloppy. I'm using a g25

How are you using a G25 to play AC man? It doesn't work on any of the current gen consoles does it?

I've maybe 10 hours under my belt with it now and am impressed. Play with g29 and playseat.

Historic GP is my thing and have been driving old Lotus and Ferrari cars mainly. Have turned off various assists over time and driving a Lotus 49 around Spa or classic Monza is a fantastic experience. (Classic Monza looks amazing btw)

I would put it well ahead of Project Cars and with all the assists turned off its closer to Grand Prix Legends although not as difficult...which is a good thing:)

Have not overly got into the set up options yet.

Would have liked some more classic tracks but hopefully they will come in time.

Overall 10 hours the driving experience is excellent

    Hope this helps

No I went back on last night for about an hour an a half and the online I find is still really poor. I played the single player after and it is starting to grow on me but until they sort out the lobby's I won't be using it much. When you can't host a private lobby there is just too many messers to have a good race

But does that not introduce latency? Also do you get proper ffb with it? I've heard those things can be a nightmare.

There seems to be a good few PS4 users here, it'll be great once we get custom lobbies.
My copy still hasn't arrived yet. I'll never pre order a game online again.

Not that I have noticed and the force feedback seems perfect and it is meant to be way better than the usual converters that just have vibration instead of ffb, I'm no expert so if someone says different I can't argue

I'm no expert myself, I was just going by what I've heard. Happy days if it works man.
It's the first time I've heard of anyone not being blown away by the physics and ffb though, they're the two things everyone seems to be praising online.

PD and Turn10 could learn a lot from Kunos when it comes to things like this.

I can't wait to see what Kunos do in the near future.

Well, I tried out a heap of different car and track combos last night and the ffb and physics are absolutely amazing.

Unfortunately though, the frame rate and screen tearing are atrocious, even though I was just hotlapping on my own. I dread to think what it would be like with a grid full of ai thrown into the mix too.

Hopefully with a couple of patches Kunos can sort it out asap.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,716 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

Was curious myself so got my son to borrow from his friend for xb1 so I could have a look and OMFG it is shocking.
Maybe I'm a pc snob running the game buttery smooth on a 144hz gsync screen but dear lord the difference was huge.
Screen tearing and big fps drops.

I have it running on my main gaming pc but also on my sons 6 year old pc via my steam account and even there the difference is massive, running on his 60hz screen and old hardware.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,531 ✭✭✭Titzon Toast

It's very bad alright, the official forums are a warzone since release date.
I don't really feel like playing AC again until it's been patched.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,716 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

Im not sure a patch will address the visual issues, maybe they can improve performance I'm not sure.
The problem is Kunos did not want to compromise the physcis engine and wanted to stick to what they are all about which is delivering a high end sim engine to the sim community.
These so called next gen consoles simply do not have the horsepower to deliver such an advanced physics engine while keeping the graphics to a good standard.
I always had my reservations of a full on sim coming to console and keeping visuals and framerate high.

It's always the same way, develop product, prototype works great, testy production prototype to death, looks solid, release to general public. they find an obvious flaw that just didn't show up before.

I am surprised there's been such issues. I would have thought with fixed architecture in the consoles that if it worked on one playstation it would work for all, but that doesn't seem to be the case, I don't think these issues are universal. A lot of talk on the support forum seems to be talking about other things.

I never really expected the consoles to match up to the PC. I was surprised it looked so good in youtube videos to be honest. Physics was always going to be ACs trump card on consoles. So the sacrifices had to be made elsewhere. Hopefully frame rate issues and tearing are minor bugs that can be ironed out. It must be frustrating for console racers to be this close to a proper sim and have intermittent bugs ruin the experience. I'm getting hangs myself at the moment where the screen pauses for a second but the game is still running and the game continues again once I'm in the wall. I'm reinstalling which can fix things like that after patches and content comes out.

The only thing I can say to console users is give Kunos a chance, they do love this game and work hard to fix issues that come up. They're a small team that love what they will bend over backways to try and fix the console version.

I just got the latest DLC, that Praga is some beast. Only got the chance to try out most of the new content, but did a race weekend with the praga at spa. The AI aren't able to drive it though. I had them on alien and I was a second and a half faster than them, I wasn't even setting blistering lap times, I think 2:29.4 was my best laptime.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,335 ✭✭✭Mike Litoris

There were some pretty bad frame rate issues on PC when it was first released. Took them a couple of months to sort. I had to reduce some stuff from max and reduce the opponents. It eventually got fixed and it flies now.

There were issues with FFB too with the G25 which got fixed too.

Is it accross the board on consoles or certain platforms?

A short preview on [some of] the things you will find in next update for Assetto Corsa on PS4 and XB1. Tearing issues have been solved, and the graphics is much more smooth in any situation. The smoothness also gives a better perception of visuals, and allows to feel a better car handling. Definetely a great step ahead, that will allow you to enjoy AC much more. The new build will feature 2 additional difficult levels, very easy and alien, and btw, all the AI levels have been balanced, that means that also the existing AI levels have been improved. Controllers: the issues with Thrustmaster T80, T100 and TH shifters have been fixed; gamepad speed sensitivity and steering gamma now work much better (we can't wait to receive your feedback), and a "reset to default" command has been added (where default means recommended). When you launch the game, now it recognizes and consider as default the device you use when you press X/A to start it (as it was designed, and it didn't work due to a bug of the very last minute..). This is the JUST the FIRST pass of improvements for the controller section, but not the LAST. We are already working to include new configurations and options for all the controllers and, BTW, thank you for your kind suggestions. Visual steering wheel rotation: as you might know, Assetto Corsa performs a full rotation of the steering wheel, depending by the car you choose, that actually helps to understand if you are steering too much, since the visual rotation matches the physical one. Said that, we recognize that gamepad users are not used to this kind of approach, and actually it can be weird by an aesthetical point of view. We added the option to lock the visual steering wheel, that will be setted by default at 360 degrees, and it works from 240 to 1080 degrees, so it can please any kind of user. Most important, we allow you to make your favorite choice.

As said before, this is just a quick update of SOME OF the things you will find in the next build. As you might know (but much probably not), the workflow needed to update a game on console is hugely different than on Steam with the PC version: is much more complex, slow and less dynamic. Also, it's something that - as developers - we are experimenting on console for the first time, since Assetto Corsa is our first porting, and believe me, Assetto Corsa is a very complex software. This is not meant to be a justification, but just a simple fact. Therefore I thank you in advance for your patience and passion, but you can be sure that Assetto Corsa 1.0 on PS4/XB1 is just the start. And, btw, the Japanese Pack DLC, the Black Cat County and Maserati Levante will be available very soon! Hopefully the new build will be available during this month: fingers crossed!

Thank you very much for the awesome way you are supporting us.

Those aren't issues though, that's just complaining about the type of game AC is. AC is a quality over quantity game, the 12 tracks are just in a different league, they're expensive to produce, so you're just not going to get that many of them.

It takes a while to get the most out of a car on any of these tracks.

No man, the issues with screen tearing and fps drops haven't been fixed yet. There's a patch incoming that's supposed to fix those and few other issues mentioned. It's also supposed to add a couple of much needed features but nothing is set in stone yet.

I reckon it'll take two or three patches to really get the game cooking but it'll be worth the wait, the ffb & physics are amazing.
