    Hi All,
Now this might be heresy to some here I'm sure but bear with me !

I'm not very big into fishing but the missus asks me to bring her out to fish for mackerel a couple of times a year, however she's very heavy handed with rods (no jokes :P) and usually ends up breaking something.

Would a cheap as chips rod such as something like the below be of any use for (very) occasional mackerel fishing or would I just be wasting my time -

I'm not overly pushed on how long it will last, If it got a few trips out at that price it wouldnt be so bad ?

    Thanks

I would go with something a little better I have bought cheap rods about 20 euro and I've got years out of them
You can buy mackerel rods with reel and lines for between 20 to 30 euro and they should last no problem
Most tackle shops will do combo deals so call into your local and have a look
For mackerel fishing I use a small 8ft teklon concept it's light out and you will get a better fight off them rods rather than small beachcaster types
Basically just a trout rod will do take takes between 10gms to 40gms
