Them party fund raisers don't just throw themselves , it takes allot of hard work

anyway for every Archer you get a Lord Peckham

Lordships were given out like snuff at a wake during the Blair years.

You only had to brush up against him and you were made a life peer.

(Not talking about Archer here btw - A Tory politician)

You don't recognise the UK government? They definitely do exist, and they get to tell someone wearing a crown who to give honours to.

That's just pedanticism at it's finest. Nice ploy but you have really got to do better.

Question have to be ask why do people get angry or annoyed about the queen or even her family... they are not Irish, Irish people don't pay British tax in Ireland... if the British people want king or queen then leave it up to the British people decide what best

I would bow to a Japanese person because that's how they do things, not an English woman with a title that means nothing to me.

But what about the Japanese emperor you said you would bow to him.

I would be surprised, I'm sure. But I would adjust my behaviour accordingly in order to not offend. I still will not recognise another individual as superior to me just because an element of people I've never met say so.

So you would bow to your superiors but that's ok because inside you know they are not superior to you?

Another personal attack on someone you've never met and know nothing about, where I've been, what I've done etc.
You sound like an utterly pompous snob and must find yourself narrowly avoiding a smack on a regular basis if you do indeed use that condescending tone in real life.

Hmmmm accuses me of making a personal "attack"....get's offended so replies with a personal attack?

But na i don't find myself "avoiding smacks" on any basis:D

What is pedantic about it? The honours are not decided by the Queen, well apart from the occasional honour to the personal household staff.

So do you not recognise the UK government then?

And these knighthoods are handed down by another 'authority' that I don't recognise in the first place.

An old neighbour was given a knighthood for running a netball club voluntarily for over forty years. She became friends to generations of girls and young woman from all walks of life. When she gave it up, they nominated her for recognition and she was awarded a knighthood for services to sport and young people.

Of course if you think she didn't deserve it and you don't recognise her award then that's entirely up to you, but it does make you look rather bitter.

KBE is the award, but women use the prefix Dame rather than Sir. Same thing though.

What are you talking about? I'll treat with respect anyone who does good and charitable things. I'm still not going to bend a knee in deference to some archaic honours system however. That this makes me bitter in your mind speaks more of yourself than it does of me.

It's not archaic. It's the UK's current honours system and seems to serve them pretty well.

A Knighthood is pretty much the actual definition of archaism.

Only if you allow yourself to imagine a horse, sword, shiny armour and castle sieges.

If you just accept it, as it's current used, as an honour for which you get a title and a nice medal then it's perfectly fine.

Who is asking you to bend a knee? To you they may be archaic, but in Britain it is how people are recognised for outstanding achievement. There is nothing archaic about that.

Nope i am just trying to get to the reason you would bow to one monarch (Japanese emperor) but not the other. Amazes me how so many claim they have a hatred of all royalty but then it turns out only the British monarchy they have issues with.

And I have made it fairly clear to you (apparently not) that I would bow to him as I would to any Japanese person, if that is the done thing in that country. He is a person. Nothing more, nothing less. If the done thing was clapping your hands and jumping up and down then I would do that too. I make no distinction between a royal and anyone else. And I have no hatred for the royal family, any royal family.
