Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Landlords, tenants & contractors

    A friend was approached to do some garden work by a tenant. He did the work & got paid by the tenant. A few days later he got a pile of grief from the landlord who claimed that he hadn't agreed to the work being done.

    So does the contractor have an obligation to seek the permission of the landlord?

    Technically probably yes (depending on the type of lease - perhaps not) but if a contractor gets asked to do some work (and gets paid for it) then I don't see that it should be down to him to confirm who exactly owns the property he is working on. It seems like a bit of a jump to expect a contractor to inquire into the ownership of any property on which he is working. It's a problem for the landlord and the tenant to sort out between themselves. There might be an insurance problem too if something went wrong but again on a practical level I don't see how a contractor can do anything other than assume the person who has engaged him has the authority to do so.
