Removing the covers completely from the frames and putting them in the washing machine gives amazing results.

Not an opnion: they are completely glued/knitted/stabled to in-seat metal rods, once I take it off, I wont be able to make it perfectly aligned again.

Not so. I've done this on loads of cars and never came across ones that aren't removable.
    Admittedly never did an E46.

The rods usually can be removed.

The way I saw rods are:

Rods themselves go all across seat almost inside of foam, and then there are metal rings which are attached to covers.

And also: front seat covers are mad hard to take off I think, need to disassemble whole seat mechanism (probably will end up with a spring in eye :D )

The metal rings come off (with a snips) replace with cable ties. Simples.

Maybe its just me, but would it have not made more sense to clean the seats with a seat cleaning product, while they were in the car??

****ing hell, that's an idea (too late now anyway)
    What about seat mechanism?

Arleitiss, is there air bags in the seats? Or connectors on the end?

  • Registered Users Posts: 73,454 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Thought they were in the doors on the e46?

Today I serviced it on my own for the first time!

Mechanic said it was serviced at the time of the cam belt change at 102k (now 105k),
Like feck it was!! it had started to rumble a bit worryingly at idle this last week (NOT noisy hydraulic lifters).

    oil came out like tar!hidesbehindsofa.gif:o

Why have I been paying someone to do this for me?????err.gif

Also got my parking sensors in the post woop!

Thanks from me for your first service and that brilliant smiley. :D

Arleitiss, is there air bags in the seats? Or connectors on the end?

Airbags are in doors, there is seat belt tensioner on seats, with small connector which I dried out fully, and will dry out more using fan.

In passenger seat there is occupancy sensor which I have unscrewed and taken out.

So other than this sensor and seat belt tensioners, no electronics.

New radio, Alpine double din with parrot bluetooth, steering wheel control adapter.
New leather handbrake gaiter. New pollen filter.

Half the dash taken apart, all workinging nicely now. Pollen filter was years old. Naaaasty. Old handbrake gaiter was vinyl, looked like it had donene twice the mileage of the rest of the car.

Anyone interested in a working subaru forester 6cd in dash player? Kenwood. No mp3 or aux.

Tonight I decided to change a busted foglight in the saab, and then ended up fixing another :pac: the first mod of many to come as such

    Anywho!
All thanks to this handy little number I can do these kinda things, well....have more confidence doing them :pac:

    2unve4j.jpg

    The new bulb

    2rwx91w.jpg

To get into the light cluster you need to unscrew a little fluffy section in the boot which looks like this
    nlx1r9.jpg

and the light cluster behind said fluffy piece

    2rr1gmc.jpg

replaced the bulb and hey presto! But something looks a bit odd no?

    5oe69l.jpg

One terminal is missing on the left light  so that needs to be addressed
Next I decided to fiddle around and see where the boot light was, due the lack of one, I found it in the ceiling and promptly replaced the burnt out bulbs with super bright led ones from the astra, where they served as parking bulbs for a while :)

Also picked up these today :D

    14io65l.jpg

So that's me set till next week, new alloys on the way! :D

    Pickles out!

Guys don't ever buy this crap. So annoying to use. All it does is leave the seats patchy (looking worse than before I touched it). Now all I have is wet seats (which won't dry) and a wet ass

I do see every now and then a dodgy audio job but this one is the worse I have seen so far.
It was done by a professional audio shop in Lithuania.

    The car is a 535d

The owner was not happy with the sound quality. No bass, even though the car runs Hearthquake underseat mid bass speaker. Should have plenty of bass here.

Anyway I was charged with installing a Kicker 12" sub in the trunk along with a new dedicated amplifier both kits being supplied by the customer.

So this is where it starts

The new kit. Not really high end stuff but that should do the job

    1.JPG

    The car's interior

    2.JPG

Ok let's see what is inside at the moment.
    Hum...Oh...Well.

    Yes just sitting like that.

    1. Lose power wire.
    2. Ground isolator (Best way to destroy the music quality by cutting precious frequencies)

    3.JPG
    4.JPG
    5.JPG

Ok then let's have a look at those underseat mid bass speakers.

Hum, no protective grill. Geez, all those debris sitting on the speakers. They did not put the grill back.

Plus they covered the inside of the enclosure with sound deadening...

    51.JPG

    6.JPG

Oh wait, this is not over yet, look at this speaker's wire

    7.JPG
    8.JPG

Ok so now I need to figure out where all those speakers wires from the trunk are coming from...Hum not from the radio itself, WTH???

Oh wait I found them, the guy that did the upgrade, hacked into the kick panels to hook into the car's speakers wires. Geez. Never heard of a 20 quids ISO connector?

The original car's loom on each side, both kick panels, had to be repaired and the previously added wires were taken out.

    9.JPG
    10.JPG

Ok we have a fuse at the battery. Yeah!!!
Well sorry buddy but I am going to pass on this one and install my own one. Just have a bad feeling about yours.

    11.JPG

Ok now, let me run my own speakers loom if you do not mind.

Today (and yesterday) I reconditioned a turbo! Bought a replacement cartridge, the old one had a bit of play in the shaft and was leaking a lot of oil.

First took all the pipework off:

    Turbo & manifold out:

    Old cartridge vs new:

    Cleaning the pipework:

We also took the sump out to clean it out:

Cleaned the variable vanes that were caked up with sh*t:

    Everything back together:

Made sure oil was feeding to the turbo properly and started it up, everything working as it should. :)

Car is now boosting nicely, but now I must replace a bad jubilee clip because one of the hoses are leaking.

All in all cost €150, considerably cheaper than getting a garage to do it. :)

That loom tape is awesome - just ordered a roll of that to tidy up my wiring a bit.

So today I found out that the truck is NOT a GMC sierra, it is a GMC K1500.
Meaning that the oil filter I ordered was the wrong size and didnt seal correctly (meaning there are approx 5 liters of halfords finest 5w30 on my front yard)

Oh well. New correct filter ordered, will finish the service when it arrives.

I bet it feels much less soul destroying because the oil only cost a tenner :D

    Precisely.
If that was the liquid gold Castrol oil, I would be a lot more peeved.
