I started (with much sorrow) the process of removing a few extra bhp. I had installed on the gti, off come the Gulf stripes and on to bigger projects......

Looks far better without those stripes.

Did you find it difficult to cut to size or such, at all? (ie; does it look 'DIYed'? Are the edges all jagged and such or does it look like an official product?)
    :)

It was easy to cut them to size, but at first the edges were rough and sticking out a bit. But I have a load of small files that smoothend the edges and brought them down to size. Obviously they aren't going to be as good as the real job, but I find that they are pretty damn close!

The latest new addition to the car, although it has made it loose a few bhp because I can't seem to put the foot down anymore :P

I had to change the rotor arm and dizzy cap in the mk2 Escort on the side of the road. I had just filled the car with petrol and after quarter mile it started running like a bag of cats. It lasted long enough for me to stop in a gate and I proceeded to change them (I had spares in the car).

That cured it so I proceeded to drive home, giving the car the odd spankin. Its now parked in the garage and I'm trying to figure out why a rotor arm and dizzy cap that I changed a couple of hundred miles ago went again.

Ordered 15 litres of this oil. Hard to get 5w40 meeting the renault spec for cheap. Meets spec for the van too.

Got a heap of mann filters on special offer too.

Couple of small things arrives today in the post. The VRS and GTD have these metal pedals but for some reason the FR didn't.

    IMG_20140404_154948_zpshmgsvrts.jpg

Easily sorted but the accelerator was a right bitch to fit on.

    IMG_20140404_160131_zpshlyatmws.jpg

Standard key jazzed up a bit with a chrome top and a cover from SEAT.

Just needs a wash and a hoover and I'm done with it for a while.

Does the cupra have a dead pedal too?

A quick ebaying threw up this

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,865 ✭✭✭✭MuppetCheck

Trying to source a right hand drive dead pedal at the moment, they come in either the pedals or the pedals with the dead pedal. The pedals only are interchangeable between rhd and lhd but the dead pedal isn't and is crazy money from the dealers. Got those delivered for 60 quid from a seat dealer in Spain. The one linked isn't OEM and I'd rather not drill it on. I don't think the VRS and GTD come with them either so it's proving awkward. Saw one but postage was nuts.

Double sided tape if you dont like the thoughts of drilling.

There's always one that's a b**** to source. My accelerator alone (its the full organ pedal+electrics) would set me back about €150 OEM. Can't find a RHD cheapo (just a chrome plate) version anywhere. Even been checking out crashed CCs for one. Damn paddy spec crashed cars.

So I got it running last night. Today I have it taxed and insured :D

It also needed some extra work. My missing booster pipe was sorted by cobbling in a Ducato pipe to provide vacuum. It'll do for now!

Driveshafts, steady mounts meh you've seen me do them before a good few times.

I wasn't happy about the brakes, they were past it
    Image1263.jpg

So I reached into my arse and pulled these out :pac:
    Image1264.jpg

It stops much better than before!

Also had a 40 mile test drive there, those pump and injector niggles are gone ;)

So what started out as a meh day turned into a fairly busy one

Without further rabble, Got the throttle body changed, seriously owe the guy for this, he stopped halfway through a gearbox removal to help with this

I somewhat helped, and heres what pics I could get!

    Piping off

    20r358j.jpg

Disconnect the hoses and connections, watch out for coolant spitting out :(

    Throttle body out

    2d8ompt.jpg

Then after the new one was fitted, and the car was going straight into limp mode, so out with the computer and after a while, it was running right as rain :D

After this I paid a visit to a fellow boardsie, last weekend due to a fecked up order I only got one droplink, so we fitted it and got the other done today so hurrah!

For those who don't know what a droplink is it's this

    34ycnxl.jpg

Anyways, cheap and cheerful to fix but a bit of willpower is needed to undo the nuts, but basically you have your socket for the nut and a spanner to hold the thing in place, like so

    k39kwp.jpg

Keep doing this until the nut is off and repeat either side, stick in the new and do the same in reverse :D new droplinks!

    The old and the new

    35bzio7.jpg

And a sure sign the old one is buggered

    25kkcxv.jpg

And that's how you do droplinks kids!

    Meh

The thermostat was also attacked today, which was not fun to say the least, but now I have a fully functioning cooling system, yay!

So the first challenge is finding the thing, after a bit of research i found it

Located on the left side of the engine block in at the back  great

    2pze44p.jpg

    jfkco5.jpg

    Cheers saab!

So to business, remove the front undertray you'l need a T20 bit, 8, and 10mm sockets for the screws

    wkk0fs.jpg

Once thats off you should be able to see this, and have access to drain the coolant

    oszyfa.jpg

Again showing the wonder that is the K frame

Drain the coolant, reuse if necessary,

    286x0y0.jpg

Disconnect the hosing from the thermostat housing, undo the clip and away you go

    2wp5hmp.jpg

    2vj5rav.jpg

Once you have this done disconnect this wire, which goes to the battery, 10mm socket for this and a 13 or spanner for the bigger nuts in the picture

    dy53y1.jpg

One or two of these are absolute pigs to get to, once you have it all undone, you might need a screwdriver to pry it off gently, heres what came out of mine

    t8qe0j.jpg

    Rightly fecked!

    slkydk.jpg

The seal had seen better days too

    qz0i1s.jpg

Again refitting is the same as reversal, if theres any paste or anything left on the housing, scrape it off with a sharp knife/blade, make sure to get all the nuts back into the housing and refill the coolant and let it idle for a few minutes

So there you have it! Next on the list, new bulbs, gaskets, plates, and various other stuff to be fitted

It took a bit more effort this time, but NCT passed for another year. What was changed in the last month was:

    * 2 x drop links (rear suspension)
    * 1 x trailing track control arm, driver's side rear (which I've found are called so many different things, was easiest going into the breakers with a picture of the rear suspension and going "one please")
    * 1 x rear driver's side strut rod (rear suspension)
    * 1 x front left suspension strut (this had passed the NCT tests but there was definitely something clunking going over ramps, so I got another one while I was at the breakers)
    * 1 x front right hub (again, this had somehow passed the NCT though the bearing were worn and loud but clearly I needed to change it out)
    * The car passed the 200,000 miles mark a week ago too :)

    6vX8Xi.jpg

    89i7Dr.jpg

There's a noticeable difference since I put in the above parts! Now, whenever I get some time I'll tackle those squeaking breaks.

I admitted defeat today and went to a BMW dealer for the first time ever for a service item. Some things you just can't really get around, I needed my new key programmed to have Comfort Access enabled.

    IMG_22631_zps15eb9228.jpg

Not the worst price in the end, but a bit annoyed (some might say why?) that they kept me there for the guts of 45 minutes after they said it had been programmed, me wondering why it was taking so long. Turns out they were cleaning the car? I cleaned the whole thing 3 hours before.

No doubt I've new swirls to deal with now, hate when garages do that. At least ask first.

Jeez would have taken 5mn over internet...

    2007 Audi A3 radio upgrade

    Stock radio going out
Please note the phone holder power lead currently rolled over the central console.

    1.JPG

    New radio loom going in

    2.JPG

    Radio ready to go in

    3.JPG

Running switched power cable from the fuse box.

    4.JPG

    Mic installed for handsfree functionality

    5.JPG

    Last power adjustements.

    6.JPG

Job done. Notice now the power lead of the phone holder is hidden as much as possible and goes straight behind lower part of the dash to now stick out from the side of the radio. A bit cleaner this way.

Never thought of giving you a call, will next time.
Did some research on the original sticker price of the 740Li in 2005.
    Sticker price approx €120,000.
Found all the option prices in sterling. I'd say in euro there was close to an additional €25,000 in options added:

    Adaptive headlights £465

Protective glass (only with Climate Comfort Windscreen) £1,160

Active seat ventilation, rear (only with Active seat ventilation, front and rear comfort seats) £535

    Comfort seats, front £1,310

    Comfort seats, rear £2,135

Seat heating, rear (only in conjunction with seat heating, front) £300

    Bootlid operation, automatic £370

Comfort Access system - keyless door entry £830

Soft Close Automatic (SCA) for doors £440

Sunblind - rear windscreen and rear side windows, electric adjustment £535

    Three-spoke Sports multi-function leather steering wheel £135

    Hi-Fi loudspeaker system - LOGIC7 Professional £520

    Only if they don't work/fit.

$37 delivered (+€3.50 for parcel motel convenience). Ordered on the 2nd March, but I was in no rush.

Eyeing up buying a real set of chrome finish pedals. Found a guy in Germany selling all 3 pedals (I only really need the accelerator) for €100 :(. Might get a few quid for the LHD ones I bought somewhere.

So another item finally scratched off the list -an autodim mirror prompted by the recent blinding of me from rangerovers : my solution: I used an autodim mirror off a Lexus LS400, problem is the LS400 came in grey or tan interiro so I had to paint the mirror - another bonus is the LS400 is alot bigger and covers a blindspot the MR2 mirror doesn't.

Nope! Should have checked your location under your username! Saw a black, SE e46 that looked similar.

The LED rears make the car look so much better than the old ones, have them myself. Best mod I've made to mine!
