Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

....I was trying to find the reference to that in regulation/statute - would you have that, by any chance ?

There is no administration charge (at present anyway!), according to motortax.ie

Q7. Will I have to pay an administration charge for making an off the road declaration?
    A7. No.

Yeah, It will change, which is why i wrote "There is no administration charge (at present anyway!)"

There was a provision in the Bill to introduce an admin charge/fee.

    http://www.environ.ie/en/LocalGovernment/MotorTax/News/MainBody,33620,en.htm

"While the Act contains provision for the prescribing of an administration fee, it is not proposed to introduce the fee in the short term – the focus is on encouraging vehicle owners to regularise their motor tax affairs."

Also, regarding the arrears owing on Motor tax, the Dáil debate on the Non-use of Motor Vehicles Bill in April made an interesting read.
It appears a lot of people who had to pay arrears were overcharged, albeit not by a huge amount but overcharged all the same,:

Fergus O'dowd(FG): "In the course of drafting the Bill, it emerged that the legal power to charge a penalty rate for arrears of motor tax was inadvertently removed from primary legislation some years ago. Notwithstanding this, provision continued to be made for the setting of rates of arrears in secondary legislation, most recently in 2008. Monthly arrears were set at one tenth of the annual rate, and payment of arrears at the current motor tax rate, that is, the historic rate not applied if the arrears period straddles an increase in motor tax."

Analysis conducted at the time showed that, arising from charging at one tenth rather than one twelfth of the annual rate per month, there were 375,000 instances of overcharging, totalling €3.8 million in 2011, with the average payment just over €10 and 93% of payments under €20. Some 0.23% of payments were in excess of €100.

The Govt response to dealing with this overcharging???: "The costs associated with directly repaying the excess tax charged via a cheque in the post would, in a large proportion of the cases, exceed the amount of money due to the individual."

Mattie McGrath takes issue with this response later in the debate!

There is a lot more detail/facts and figure here:
