Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You are better off getting an actual pair of runners; that way you will have something to wear should you have indoor sessions.

We don't do indoor sessions, but those astro boots would be grand for this weather i'd say.

Quick fix is just covering your feet in vaseline, should prevent the blisters anyway....

Yeah read that online, will defo give it a go.

I'll probably invest in a pair of astro boots and runners, as I do indoor training myself, but astro boots will be the priority! Will pick up a comfy pair this weekend, cheers.

Astro boots would find little grip in even a firm enough pitch. The pitch there is quite grassy also. Would recommend going for a pair of mouldies such as these. Great for any firm grass, I wear mouldies for tag in the Summer and very useful for first few months of the season.

Cheers chris, do you wear something like that for training also?

At the moment yeah. They are very comfortable to wear and run in.

Wish I had invested in a pair of those boots. Went back training yesterday in my winter boots, ground was like concrete. Feet are in shreds, have blisters filled with blood on each foot, ouch!

Yeah I end up with about 3 pairs a season. Mouldies for tag and early season, a 6 studied boot for normal season here and 8 studied boots for the mankiest of days.

Ok lads, sorry to jump in but me and a mate are going to join the local club, never played before, going boot shopping on Sunday.
What should we be looking out for?
I'm seeing a lot of firm/soft ground discussion going on here

I bought Canterbury boots last season - very comfy, didn't cut me to shreds at first and have been good in most conditions. Cost about 50 quid in Elverys

Tell me about it! My toe is hanging off... Gonna go buy a pair of mouldies or Astros on the weekend, whatever is comfiest!

I'm training in my runners tomorrow, would rather a few slips than have my feet torn up like that again. It hasn't rained since so the ground will still be rock hard.

I'd go with the mouldies - you'll probably get more opportunity to use them. I bought a brand new pair of Puma ones at the end of last season and used them for tag and rugby league (in seriously hot & dry conditions), and had absolutely no problems at all.

    These ones here: http://www.ebay.ie/itm/PUMA-MENS-POWERCAT4-12-R-HG-FOOTBALL-BOOTS-WHITE-ROYAL-TEAM-SIZES-6-12-NEW-/330874140589?pt=UK_Football_Rugby_Boots&var=&hash=item4d09a2b7ad

I had to get a half size up though as that's all they had, and it turned out to be a lucky decision - they are a bit tighter.

Edit: No, no, no. Please at least link instead to a picture of a manky foot.

I would say check out the local clubs ground, if it feels firm then buy a pair of firm ground mouldies or astros as youll just be doing running/fitness traing for the first few weeks.. But you'll probably need soft ground studded boots, we've had an usually dry summer, but it won't last, so keep that in mind.

    wouldnt mind seeing that myself.
We were talking about it at training last night. apparently if you field an illegal player your team and all the Junior teams in you club will be deducted points.

I'd love to try and make it into the Clontarf J4 team as it looks like a decent div., but I reckon, going by my fitness levels and dodgy leg, I'll be in J5.

Terenure won it originally and were deducted 3 points which gave it to Landsdowne but then they were found to be fielding dodgy players so they were deducted 40.

Absolutely. I smashed up my heel about 6 years ago so this is the first impact I've put on it, I'm walking around work like quasimodo today. :D

Hopefully I can build up some strength in that leg over the season.

As far as I know Clontarf J5 are looking to move up a league and switch with Emerald Warriors. Not sure if any progress has been made in this regard though.

Do RCSI plan to field a team this year for more than 4 games that is ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,257 ✭✭✭✭Eoin

Very little difference for us if those are the teams in our division. 1 team is new to us, 1 we played 2 seasons ago and the other 5 were in our league last year. As I've said before though, I'm glad to see some clarity around promotion/relegation and glad that a second place finish gives you a chance of getting a result of sorts for this season.

The Clontarf J5 generally regularly beat the other div 11 teams and usually with decent points gap if you look at last few season, bar the odd match. Think would be more challenging in the div 10 area.

I disagree, last year we had a huge influx of new players (due to the world cup) so had a fantastic team and last years run was great. But if you look over the last 4 or 5 years its been real hit and miss due to having a skeleton crew in place. If we have anywhere near the same type of squad as last year we should go up a league.

Just as an aside what happens if say the J5 team made their way through the leagues and ended up going into the same league as the J4 team in the same club??

each team can only have one team in each division so if your team won your league to get promoted to the same league as your J4 team you wouldnt get the promotion.

You can't have two teams in the same league, so you just would not get promoted. Similarly if the higher of the two teams were to get relegated, the lower team would effectively be relegated too.

    Hey,

Unidare RFC have been in preseason for about 3-4 weeks now. We have a J4 team & should hopefully have enough numbers for a second team this year. We play our matches in Balcurris park, Ballymun but train Tuesdays & Thursdays @ 7:30pm in St Brigids national school, Wellmount Ave, Finglas. New players are always welcome, if anyone's interested send me a pm or check us out @ www.facebook.com/UnidareRFC or http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/unidare

What was training in Clontarf like over the past week?

I can't do much contact for the few weeks cos I have some races coming up, but would like to get back out and do some training, providing I survive the Frank Duffy 10 miler on Saturday.

No contact yet, plenty of circuit and fitness tests.

    Hell'ish, but well do-able. :)

Lads started back last week, I can't train with the team cause of commitments but our season never really ended as we had a tournament at the end of May and then had TRX twice a week for fitness through out the summer.

Doesn't matter how much preseason you do or how fit you are, you'll still be in bits after the first game, nothing but matches give you that sort of fitness that contact requires.

I'll be interested to see if I can last til our first game... :D I feel like Mr. Glass, have already picked up a few knocks and we haven't started contact training yet. :P Loving it so far tho. Strangely excited every time a training day rolls by...

Don't worry, that'll fade when you're looking out the window on a Thursday afternoon and it's already pitch dark, pissing down and even polar bears are shivering.

When does contact start ak? Have been looking around for a club and tbh the options out my way are thin on the ground. I'm down to Unidare and Clontarf. I've a mate who lives out by Clontarf that used to play. He mentions taking it back up now and again so I might try and talk him into it. Would love to get started this week if I can.

Think it's still a week or two away. Hope so anyway as I'm trying to mend a leg!

Hey Unidare are training tomorrow & Thursday @ 7:30pm in Mount Temple on the Malahide rd (just for this week, so we can get some scrum practice in!). Back to St Brigids as normal next week. Feel free to pop down if you want to have a look.

How come you guys pulled out of the Tallaght match?

Edit: I've been informed it was RCSI, and not yourselves, apologies.
