    Hi

Just wondering. Do student nurses get paid when they are doing placements? And what is a starting salary for a nurse.
Would a nurse with a masters get paid more?
Can you do a masters directly after completing a degree or do you need experience first?

    Thanks so much

At the moment, student nurses are paid during their internship (4th year), approx €9k but it is under review apparently and could be scrapped.

Starting salary for a graduate nurse in the public health service is €22k plus premium payments to bring it to ~€26k I think. If you google graduate nurse scheme you will find more information.

Most of the masters programmes I've looked at require work experience and that you be working in that area but I can't say that all of them do. Some require that you complete a graduate diploma/certificate first. If you go onto the website of a university with a school of nursing, you can see the requirements for their postgraduate programmes. I looked here for example.

I don't know if further qualifcations attract allowances, you can check the INMO site for further details of payscales etc.

Thanks so much for that info Wildrosie. It would b unfair if the payment in 4 th year was scrapped. Hopefully they will re-think that and not do it.
