8 teams in the Round 3 draw:

    Armagh
    Cavan
    Derry
    Galway
    Kildare
    Laois
    Tyrone
    Wexford

The winners of those 4 matches will then play:

    Meath
    Cork
    Mayo or London
    Donegal or Monaghan

Whichever two teams get drawn against London for round 4, will have serious incentive to win their round 3 game.

I dunno why they don't do it live after the game on a Sunday anymore. Or even live on The Sunday Game nighttime show.

Me too. Should be on live after the afternoon game on Sundays.

Please, please not an Ulster team for Cavan.

Would love to see Kildare get Tyrone or Cork away

Derry for Cavan - with winners to play London

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,785 ✭✭✭Dubliner28

Galway vs Armagh, winners play Cork
Wexford vs Laois, winners play Donegal/Monaghan
Kildare vs Tyrone, winners play Meath
Derry vs Cavan, winners play Mayo/London

Some good fixtures there and would see Cork and Tyrone emerge and two Ulster teams emerge from the other games - fancy Monaghan to come through which would be great for them (if they don't beat Donegal of course) - toss of a coin between Derry and Cavan at the minute but home advantage should tip it their way.

    Some close matches

    I fancy
    Armagh
    Laois
    Tyrone
    Derry

from those matches above though, with probably the closest one being Wexford v Laois.

Happy enough with that for Cavan. Derry albeit a tough draw are beatable in my opinion and the incentive is there to push on, try to beat London and get to a All Ireland Quarter Final.

Another Ulster team for Cavan Lemlin - bit of a disaster?

    My initial predictions:

Galway vs Armagh, winners play Cork
Wexford vs Laois, winners play Donegal/Monaghan
Kildare vs Tyrone, winners play Meath
Derry vs Cavan, winners play Mayo/London

    Cork to beat Armagh.
    Monaghan to beat Laois.
Cant call Tyrone v Meath (Could be a whopper!)
Cavan to beat London (and hopefully play in Croke Park contrary to some silly comments on here recently!)

Great draw - some very balanced looking games there. Very hard to call any of the round three games, most of the teams I'd fancy are playing away from home which will balance things up and maybe give the likes of Galway and Kildare a chance of springing a surprise. Armagh are capable of the odd flaky performance away from home but it will be tough for the winner of that game either way against Cork.

Tyrone weren't great last time out and Kildare, with their qualifier record and home advantage, will feel they'll have a chance. The game between the winners and Meath should be good also.

Derry v Cavan will be tight but there's an almost guaranteed quarter final appearance for the winners (when did Cavan last make the quarters?).

Wexford v Laois will be tight as well. The beaten Ulster finalists will be hampered by a tight turnaround for the round four game here. A great chance for one of Wexford, Laois or Monaghan to get to the quarter finals again.

Good weekend of football coming up...

Initial quarter finalists prediction from that draw: Cork, Wexford, Tyrone and Derry.

Yeah great incentive for both Cavan and Derry - Cavan have never got past the next stage of the qualifiers - got to All-Ireland semi in 1997 where they lost to Kerry.

Don't know if Kildare will play this game in Newbridge? Don't they have safety concerns? Could be moved to Portlaoise. But Tyrone will be to strong anyway.

    Here's my predictions:

Galway vs Armagh, winners play Cork
Wexford vs Laois, winners play Donegal/Monaghan
Kildare vs Tyrone, winners play Meath
    Derry vsCavan, winners play Mayo/London

    Cork to beat Armagh.
    Monaghan to beat Wexford
    Tyrone to beat Meath
    Derry to beat London.

So hard to call Round 3 games. Could go either way in them all.

Furthest Cavan ever went was Round 4 in 2005 when we lost to Mayo.

We haven't played a championship game in Croke Park since '97!!

Lookin forward to Kildare v Tyrone and Derry v Cavan. Everyone seems to be writing Kildare off so let's see how they respond.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

I think they should have waited until after the other two provincial finals before doing the second part of the draw.

Tyrone and Derry should come through. You would expect Cork to get through as well, though Armagh and Cork should be a cracker. Wexford should beat Laois, but Monaghan could be more dangerous than we think, though they won't get past Donegal. Interesting matches lie ahead. The championship is on lads!!! :)

Two people tipping Armagh to beat us? Come on, Cork would have to be considered favourites for that.

I hadn't realised that. Of the 12 teams never to have made the quarters since they were introduced Louth would have to be considered the unluckiest given what happened to them a few years ago. But Cavan look like the one side out of the 12 that are likely to break through fairly soon.

Cork, Tyrone, Monaghan and Derry for me.

A few good ties and potential good matches there.

Cork are Cork and are capable of fcuking up at any stage. I have being following them for long enough. They should beat Galway/Armagh on paper but knowing Cork its hard to know with them. They could destroy a team or struggle to win or lose unexpectantly..

That's a fairly even round 3 that. Hard to call

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,806 ✭✭✭corny

I'll go for Cork, Wexford, Derry and Meath to come through and all four of them to lose to the provincial winners.

I'd love to see Cavan beat Derry and Martin Dunne to get an All Star he deserves though.

Happy with that draw. On paper, it couldn't be tougher but no matter who wins between Kildare and Tyrone, Micko shouldn't have any trouble in getting the players back in the right frame of mind after the disappointment of yesterday.

Quarter finals could conceivably have the maximum 5 counties from the same province (Ulster) for the first time.

    Ah the memories :).

Cavan and Monaghan playing a double header in Croker should be the GAA's wet dream - they would need an extra tier for the crowd that day if it happened and would be some atmoosphere - unlikely to happen but would be a special day out if it did happen..

Yep, weather was woeful that day. Pissed rain all day for that semi.

Put a couple a hundred on Derry to bate the sh** out of Cavan, only guaranteed result of this round

Would have to agree with this. Im from Cavan, and I see the usual tinted glasses are on again where people are tipping us to beat Derry. I think we will run them close but dont have enough firepower. Dunne and Keating managed a total of 1-2 from play against Fermanangh and were completely outplayed v Monaghan as well. I know we scored 1-14 v Fermanagh but Derry are a lot better.

I'd expect Derry to beat us alright but I certainly wouldn't stick a couple of hundred on it.

That said, I never bet on teams I support but I wouldn't of thought Cavan and Derry would be that clear cut someone would chance a couple of hundred on it.

I dont know if your tak!ng the piss or being serious. Martin Dunne had an excellent game V Armagh, played well V Fermanagh the first day, was completely outplayed and outfought by Monaghan and had an ok game on Sat nite. Mackey has been Cavans stand out player this season, and the only player IMO of course from Cavan who has any chance of getting a nomination never mind an award itself

    Also live on tv

R4 double header in Croker on 27th July. Cork v Armagh / Galway followed by Meath v Kildare / Tyrone. First game 5pm and second game 7pm. Second game live on tv

    You know something we dont?

Armagh have put up 10-34 in their last two games (Away) while Galway have narrowly beaten Tipperary and Waterford (at Home), that was the one that caught my eye as a sure result.

Cavan put that Armagh team away in the 1st round, and therefore I wouldnt guarantee them a beating against anybody.

Those tipping Monaghan to reach the last eight should remember the six turnaround after losing a ulster final.

Dont get this comment at all. Haven't they being in the Semis the last five years. They are very consisent at putting away teams they should beat.

EDIT - looked it up, its 2004 since Cork have not made the semis.

Probably not. 2 are at 5 and 2 are at 7.

And if TV3 get one you'll know all about it if you ever have the misfortune of tuning into the channel. They'll advertise the sh1te out of it and let us know each nite on the news.

So would myself. But I don't think they'd show one at 5. Britains got Pop Factor is probably on and would get a higher audience.
