Dont even think about making a joke about someone thinking of pissing on the Alamo.

Don't under estimate how huge Heuston, is and how long it will take you to get around it. It's America's 4th or 5th biggest city.

Houston is a large urban area but the centre isn't to big. Where is the GAA on and what would you like to do?

The Saltgrass Restaurant on the Riverwalk in San Antonio is one of my favourite eateries in the world. Their ribs are to die for and they handcut the fries after you order them. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!

Talking about the alamos... have you tried Alamo Drafthouse yet?
Once you get hooked at seeing movies there, there's no going back to normal theaters with just coke and pop corn as food options.

i was at a big cookout one time at a ranch putside of SA. It wasnt a restraunt, it was more like a facility they rented out for big groups.

It was unbelievable.....food, country and western band, pickup trucks with the bed filled to the gills with cans of beer.

Definitely make it to one of these events if you can....Im sure they must hold all types of social and charity functions out there

Well, I'm jealous. I always liked 'San Antone', even looked at all the universities there just to be there. My husband's cousin is there - Kevin Michael O'Connell, a lawyer or DA or judge. Play the tourist for a while - Hemisphere Tower, Institute of Texan Culture, Alamo, full length of Riverwalk, etc.

If you're going on a road trip, and you know I35 is going to be busy or a lot of construction, take one of the smaller roads parallel to it. Being Irish, you should have no problem even though it's one way each way. Just take the speed signs seriously in the tiny towns, even though it means you nearly need to slam on your brakes to get down to that speed that quickly.

Don't forget about Amtrak. Lovely way to travel around U.S., especially when getting over jet lag.

You may suffer from the same problem I had, but in reverse: with a map of Texas in front of you, you'll assume it's about the same size as Ireland (I mean, the map is the same size!) but it's more than 8 times bigger!

Keep telling people you are Irish and you will tire of, "Oh, my great-great grandmother was Irish, I would love to go there someday."

    Enjoy!
