Well, took a while but I finally beat The Last Giant in DS2.
My happiness was shortlived however as I subsequently had my ass handed to me by the Pursuer.

Yes but make sure the person fixing it replaces the solder with a dedicated station and doesn't just reflow it in an oven or with a heat gun

Aka a reball. Not sure I'd bother at this stage, it's a costly & skilled repair requiring someone who knows what they're doing. I think I'd buy buy a new super slimline PS3 instead

I spent a number of years doing that sort of stuff fixing mobile phones so would feel confident about doing it.

Just I only have a cheap oversized heat gun which would probably blast the chips into the next galaxy.

Machine is fcuked too though so what's to lose?!

Reflowing it with a heat gun is just a temporary fix and will probably do more harm than good.

A proper reflow can't be done with a heat gun, it requires specialist equipment. Using a heat gun, might, just might, buy you enough time to upload or retrieve game saves from the console & is more or less certain that the console will fail again soon after. The downside, is that using a heat gun will likely remove the opportunity to fix the console properly, as it will warp the mainboard.

I'm not sure how much they sell for now but I just remember at the time that for around the launch price I managed to pick up a MVS with supergun, controller and a few games.

Those stages look absolutely stunning. I really miss pixel art. I hate that 2D game art has now been taken over by people using adobe illutrator. Vector art just looks no where near as good and a lot of people doing the art for indie games are talentless hacks. There's just something about illustrator art, there's just no detail and shading unlike good pixel art.

I'm going to place the blame on just terrible 2D animators and artists in the games industry, it's way too easy to be competent with illustrator. I say this because illustrator art can look great and Vanillaware use their own vector based art package to make their games which is supposedly very similar to illustrator.

That's it really. Pixel art like that is genuine, full fledged talent driven art.

There's no way of masking if you're **** at drawing when trying to create something like that.

Not just games though, it's taken over the animation industry as well. There's a lot of animation now done with illustrator and you can really tell. Now while a lot of that stuff id a lot higher quality you can still tell it's not hand animated. A lot of the studios at least try to stylize it to make the most of it with art featuring lots of straight edges and hard angles but it looks naff compared to something like the batman animated series from the nineties that was hand drawn but used a similar style.

Then don't get me started on **** like Archer and Family Guy. The animation is disgusting in them. At least Archer is great, can't exactly say that for family guy.
