Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Can I ask what the point of the Spine cards are on Japanese Saturn games?? I see a lot of them listed on games for sale and although I know the point of a "complete" game would be to have the spine, but I just feel like they're a waste and TBH I probably wouldn't miss not having them.

As in if some guy was charging 70 euro for a game with a spine and anotehr was charging 50 without one, I'd go with the cheaper one :)

As far as I'm aware the wrap around the spine outside the cd case under the shrink wrap.

If you have a PS+ account you can elect to save your games to their remote storage.
That way they'll be awaiting you when you buy another PS3 and log into your PSN account.
Yup, just checked, you get 1gb of space for game saves from your PS3, which is loads.
You just have had to say "Yes" when playing games and it asks you you initiate the feature.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭DinoRex

Yep. All game saves are fine.

I appreciate how small and quiet the new PS3 model is, but the plastic so cheap and nasty. Even the Dualshock controller is made out of the same nasty plastic.

I'm pretty sure the DS3 with the console is the same as other DS3s (I have the super-slim, but I could be wrong).

Dualshock 3 was a pretty shoddily made controller anyway.

Those sticks are terrible in retrospect.

My old DS3 is definitely a darker heavier plastic.

Strange, mine is the exact same as my older DS3, which came with an 80GB OG system. Did you buy the system brand new? Possibly got a counterfeit controller?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭DinoRex

Oh brand new PS3 Super Slim. The one on the right is the newer model. Has more of a matt finish and is definitely a lighter plastic, feels cheaper:

    EmjGopQ.jpg

I guess it does match the lower quality of the Super Slim better.

It's crazy how the 360 seemed to get better looking with more features with each revision while the PS3 gets worse (although I do appreciate the smaller size and how much quieter it is.)

Don't no how I'm going to adjust to not having a slot for Compact Flash cards on this new one!

Did that controller actually come in the box?

Looks like one of the fake controllers I managed to accidentally pick up a few years ago from fleabay.

Has all of the signs: odd plastic... uneven printing on the 'Sony' logo.

If you shake it does it rattle? Very telltale sign.

Came in the box. Bought from Argos.

The label on the back of it seems to match the label of other one pretty well.

It's not hugely terrible. Just seems like a slightly different plastic they're using now, as the consoles themselves aren't made in the old plastic.

Anyone looking for a dirt cheap Batman Returns on the SNES the japanese version goes for peanuts and is 100% in english. It even has manga batman on the front.

Since I've started a loose cart MD/MS collection (mainly because I think loose carts look nicer, take up less space, and cheaper) what measures should I go to protecting them?

Should I put them in poly sleeves?

You could try putting them in cases? :D

There's not a lot you can do for unboxed carts if you want to leave them unboxed. I know in the US they have those funky Snes edge connector dust cover things, but have never see anything like that for the Megadrive.

How about an audio cassette rack? I think they should fit.

    But what about baggies? :P

I dunno, I'm just not a fan of boxed cartridge games (except for DS/3DS/Vita). I just have a fetish for a nice row of carts lined up, especially if they have edge labels...

One of the big draws of Megadrive collecting is that they come with such great clamshells. One of the nicest out of the older generations of consoles (and they're relatively cheap) -your game box hate is mind boggling! :pac:

Wouldn't bother with baggies, too much hassle and they wouldn't sit right.

The boxed games I do own, I've taken the carts out, and the cases are in the closet :P

I have two games on my list I need to track down, Castlevania: The New Generation and Shadowrun. Seems hard to get Castlevania for a decent price :(

Sure, if you hate them that much, feel free to send me your loose carts :P

Looks like Watch Dogs has proven to be a bit of a dud, unsurprisingly.

It doesn't even have any dogs in it apparently, they clearly didn't want to pay the royalty fees to Peter Molyneux.

Wow, I am actually surprised, given the time they took to make it better.
It'll probably sell buckets though, given the Titanfall levels of hype behind it.

Maybe the WiiU version will be best after all!

A dud in gaming terms being a game that has attracted widespread critical acclaim and, at worst, mostly positive feedback with a few reservations from players and critics alike :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭DinoRex

If you like sandbox games you might like it. But it all looks a bit tiresome to me. The final missions are supposed to reach near Driver levels of annoyance.

Just started Remember Me last night, that was a game that wasn't received well for some reason but I'm loving it. Absolutely stunning looking game too.

Remember Me had lots of good ideas but seriously shoddy execution at times. Some of the enemy types are some of the most contrived and frustrating I've ever encountered in gaming, and you have to fight them over and over again. Which is a shame, because the adjustable combos are a brilliant idea and work extremely well when the game is at its best, which is sadly a rarity. Ditto the memory adjustment sequences - great in theory, fidgety in execution. The setting also feels under-utilised after the opening chapters.

A game where you can't fault the ambition, but a game that became more and more of a chore after a promising opening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭DinoRex

Ah... I'm only 3 chapters in so far. I guess it takes a nose dive.

Got to play a few credits on the Metallica pinball in Dr. Quirkies!
Let's be honest it's no tales from the crypt ;-)
Seems good and fast and the tunes are sweet.
Table needs a service tho and I think they has extra balls switched off. 2 euro for 4 plays is good.
Got a free game too :-)

Is that the extended directors cut? So much better with the whole 2 minutes of extra footage, which seems to on,y included additional angles of Murphys death.

    Speaking of special editions.
Anyone here watch the Despecialised Edition of Star Wars? It's a fan project and currently on v2.5.
Worth a look if you're a fan of the movies:

I grabbed it and its about 18GB for the movie.

Would actually love to meet up with you but I'm off to a Yoga and Kayaking retreat in West Cork for the entire weekend. :(

I might be around for a half hour friday afternoon though.

Not much choice for arcades in Cork anymore, the main one is The Colosseum which is a bowling and pool place on the end of McCurtain street on the right hand corner. Its a bowling alley with pool tables too.

Passed Blacpool just off the commons road (before McDonnalds), is a bowling and pool place called Planet, which has an arcade downstairs. It has time crisis 2 and some racing games, not a whole lot there.

They're the only 2 I can think of, ill link kevin2me to your post in case he has a better idea.

I was in the Vicarstown bar on North Main street on Friday, and discovered that they have a Mame arcade cabinet out the back in the open air area!

It mainly has some of the older games like Pacman, can't remember what other games on it. When i walked over to it to have a look, 2 old men sitting next to it started talking and i couldnt get away from them until 15 mins later, they just wouldnt shut up, took me about 10 times of saying "lads i have to go back to my friend" to get away from them.

I think that mame cabinet was put there as a trap to trick me! :p

If you want to take my number in case you have any questions over the weekend or get lost sure send me a PM or something.

Jesus, prices for Castlevania: The New Generation vary greatly. I see BINs going for £80, but then auctions going for £30 with 1 bid. Guess it's safe to say I should hold off and wait to snipe a copy?

I'd be much better off waiting for Disney to prep their own release rather than some fanmade hackjob of what the Original Trilogy first looked like. It would be much better quality for one.

Besides, when will the butthurt fans admit that the ending music for the '97 Special Edition is so much better than the Yub Nub crapfest?

Oh yeah, that one. It's titled "Our RoboCop Remake". Which I can't help but be reminded that there was an actual remake that released this year. Everyone seems to have forgotten it already, seeing that there's hardly any buzz about it anymore.

Wow, really thrilled with the current price of second hand ps3 games.

Yeah, it's better alright, but then the Ewok thing treaded a very fine line between acceaptable and twee sh1te.

The recent remake, such a terrible waste of time. Like the Total Recall remake that went before it all it did was damage the legacy of the great movie that went before it.
All they ace done with Robocop was either clean it up, maybe update the stop motion with CGI or, even better, just leave it alone!
