All they ace done with Robocop was either clean it up, maybe update the stop motion with CGI or, even better, just leave it alone!

I didn't watch either of those. So glad I didnt! Films like that have only one redeeming feature. When they make reference or have a little nod to the original. But then it just makes you wish you were watching the original

Is that Zelda guide book chest thing worth buying?

There were even more changes made to the original trilogy when it was released on BluRay. Some of them utterly inexpiable.

Obi Wan now does a really strange howl when chasing off the Sand People.

Can anyone think of pre-Mortal Kombat games that would have featured large amounts of blood?

    Bionic commandos head explosion

    Narc

Smash tv I think was pre mortal Kombat

Snatcher was heavy on the gore, first released in 1988.

The Japanese fist of the North Star games

The ultima games could get pretty gory as well. You will probably find a lot of PC games that were gory or visual novels.

Robocop remake, now I wouldn't buy that for a dollar.

@ Dinorex - I actually like that howl, makes up for the prequels in my view.

Is it worth a fiver? :P

If you're ever in Cork again and want to meet up sure let me know!

If youre out drinking you should definitely go to the Vicarstown and have a bash off that arcade cabinet.

Its connected to the bar next door called BDSM, which plays alternative, rock and metal, its a really cool place and only open less than a year.

BTW, BDSM in this case stands for Black Dog Saloon & Mezcalaria which is the name of the pub.

No doubt STG.Otaku will get excited in his gentelmans area when he sees those 4 letters! ;)

That is one of the most twisted games I've ever come across. I remember hearing it was banned from loads of arcades back in the day. (not surprising!)

It even has bewbs in one of the later levels!

Amazingly, there was a NES port of it. Censored to bits as you can imagine.

Maybe not lots of blood but didn't Barbarian (or it's sequel) have decapitations? Samurai Warrior Usagi Yojimbo on the C64 had some tasty death-by-sword moves too iirc.

Yep, the decapitations in Barbarian on the Speccy was the first time I ever witnessed proper videogame gore. Thought it was great :D

The Immortal is another one worth mentioning. Some very gory death animations in that one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,066 ✭✭✭Doge

    Decapitations indeed!

Some guy made a c64 game recently thats disturbing but hilarious!
I'll try and find the video, it cracked me up!

    Cidey?

Since you're a hardcore fan of Robotron, and possibly Smash TV,
what do you think of the Dead Ops minigame in COD Black Ops?

I'm thinking of picking up Black Ops, soley just to play that game!

Smash TV is my coin op friend in the state's favourite Arcade Game, he even goes by the name SmashTV online.

He may even be lurking around here if he's not too busy...

Ya I think Colosseum(LeisurePlex) is all their really is.
Its mostly Twin Racers and Shooters. About 20 Cabs.
SR2\Ferrari Challange\Daytonas, MaxTune and mario Karts need work done to them.

Few of Mitches 60-1 and such in odd bar or 2, like Vicarstown.
Nice bar for drink anyways :)
Also have holiday more places, trabulgan and youghal.

Only other arcade in Cork is probably my house haha :)

So when is the grand opening of "The New Savoy!" ;)

    You could charge people entry!

You should definitely consider throwing a beers sometime, I live with the folks and have only a modest collection so my place wouldnt be suited to large groups.

Heh. Speak for (the Star Wars fans) themselves. I think 15 years of anger greatly outclasses a brief annoyance over an old ending theme.
    CiDeRmAn wrote: »
Yeah, it's better alright, but then the Ewok thing treaded a very fine line between acceaptable and twee sh1te.
Honestly, I think that Episode VI was a bit naff overall. You got a reused plot element in the form of another Death Star, you've got those ewoks who were prototype Jar Jar's in trying to get stupid characters to appeal to kids, an overly long first act, the Stormtroopers sucking even more than usual at their job, and then stuff like this.

Yeah, it's a toss up between this and Episode II as the worst of the series, for me.

Why was there even a three boobed hooker in the movie when it doesn't even show a mutant colony ever having existed in the first place?

There was this video (which seems to have disappeared off of YouTube altogether, unfortunately), which showed Obi Wan stepping on a Lego brick. I think you can piece together the rest of the vid yourself.

Also, rewatched the Final Cut of Blade Runner last night, because I was unable to sleep...good god, what a hell of a movie it was.

I really enjoyed it. Did the jailbreak puzzle, in which the team is handcuffed together. You have an hour to get out, took us about 45-50 minutes (yes, we had several of those 'AAHHH!' moments you get in point and click games). If you get stuck, you're offered clues slipped under the door :D I'd go into specifics, but there's no fun in that for anyone who intends on actually going ;)

They have a half price offer going at the moment on some of the rooms if you quote their Facebook deal, although think it's only valid until the weekend.

The place itself is located in a non-descript industrial park - it's funny walking up the stairs and seeing that all the standard offices in the building have been converted into elaborate puzzles!

Actually beers some night later this year mightnt be a bad idea.

As anyone else been reading up on the bizarre fighting game Death Cargo? Meant to be a throwback to Mortal Kombat style fighters, but now there seems to be significant evidence that the game doesn't exist. A writer over at Kotaku has been trying to download his copy - the game has apparently actually been released - for weeks now and keeps getting put through all these weird steps and delays. Stranger still the game is being made by a low budget Italian horror movie studio :pac:

The latest update is worth a read just for the sheer oddness of the situation: http://kotaku.com/i-bought-this-game-two-weeks-ago-and-i-still-can-t-pla-1582829826

I saw a few updates of the game a few months ago. The fighting engine looked absolutely appalling. Also the fatalities really take things too far in the gore stakes. Mortal Kombat has always been tongue in cheek but the fatalities in this verge on torture porn to me.

Hoping Mario Kart 8 isn't sold out when I head to Smyths tomorrow lunchtime.

Didn't pre-order as I wasn't planning on getting it but I've hyped it up too much in my own head now.

One of the girls in work that's thinking of purchasing a Wii U is coming round to try it out too so that should be fun!
