Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Marriage as pathway to cab ownership, a little drastic isn't it?

I think those games are gone. They are free with PS+ but once that runs out they disappear until you get PS+ again. Load of of arse in fairness. I ended up just buying them.

Shovel Knight is finally out today and looking brilliant.

Was hoping to pick it up on the WiiU but looks like an EU release is still being worked on. Guess I'll have to get the PC version.

Been listening to the Blood Dragon soundtrack a lot lately, it's great!

Very Vangelis/Bladerunner mixed with Daft Punk/Tron and a bit of Jean Michelle Jarre thrown in. Super cool.

Think I'll have to belt it out on the stereo for a proper listen. Wish I had a turntable now.

Well, Resident Evil 4 is now a daily deal on Steam at 40% off. Probably not gonna be much more than that. Should I just go for it?

Have you owned it up to now?
The game is a stone cold classic, the last good one of the franchise.
Of course, if you already have the GC, PS2 and Wii versions, buying another one loses it's immediate appeal somewhat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭DinoRex

They've done a pretty nice job on the new PC version though like increasing the frame rate but some things look crazy in it, like how fast doors open.

Yeah, I have the Wii version...thought I only ever beaten it one time and I thought I could do with having one with HD and 60fps.

I'm getting a much better Dark Souls feel off Shovel Knight than I did off Dark Souls 2.

Have cleared 3 stages now... it's a huge amount of fun.

    I'm awaiting the WiiU/3DS version.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭DinoRex

Think I'll be double dipping and getting the 3DS version when it's available.

I'd say that parallax scrolling will look great in 3D.

This is a great read about how close they made it to a NES game while not getting too constrained by the limitations:

Had a big party in the house last night for the missus's 30th. I've never seen the arcade cabs get so much use. Must have been on for 8 hours straight! Lovely seeing folks enjoy them so much.

I think about 4 hours of that was people playing Qix. That game is like crack.

Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but inviting a load of people 'you know from the Internet and only meet up with occasionally to play crappy CDi games' to a significant other's birthday party would probably be pretty weird for everyone involved.

In fairness we also play crappy games on the PS2, PS1, GC and Xbox as well.
Also Retr0s filth regardless of format gets an airing too.

And it would be odd to have a Beers / Significant Others significant birthday cross over.

You're far too young to be attending 30ths, enjoy your youth while you still can ;)

    Hah!

I can only imagine the look of bewilderment from everyone as Retr0 sings the praises of the Zelda CDi games, while Ciderman is standing in the background, stamping on all my Streets of Rage carts.

    Love that,
especially when nothing fails for the whole night:D
I'll have a beers sometime but I'll wait till my little arcade is complete because I dont have a lot of retro.
Wont be long hopefully. The porno version of Qix is deadly .Gals panic I think

Yeah! If your machines pass the 'being played for the guts of 10 hours by a bunch of drunken lunatics' test then you know they're doing well. :D

    One thing I've noticed that whenever I have people around for a party, it tends to go like this;

'ARCADE MACHINE! WOW! HAVE YOU GOT STREET FIGHTER 2?!!?!'

'No, but I do have The Last Blade/Samurai Showdown games/King of Fighter games/Mark of The Wolves/Wakku Wakku 7/other bizarre SNK stuff'

    blank-stare.gif

I might get a couple of extra button holes punched through my spare CP and populate it with Sanwa parts.

If people are coming around I'll swap out the 4 button CP and throw in my SF2 CE board.

I might pick up Gals Panic actually - one slot left in the 6 slot switcher and the PCB looks small enough to fit without an extender. Plus it's damn cheap! :)

It's brilliant isn't it? Every time I get a new game I usually farm the card drops from it and make myself some nice pocket money to offset the cost of new games.

Friend invite me only if you're level 10+ steam or you know me! If you do not meet these requirements I will deny. If you don't meet the requirements and want to add me really bad comment on my profile asking if you can.

Don't feel bad selling to suckers like this at all.

Best bet is discogs, but .... Woah never mind, the last two listed in Europe just went, would have worked out at around 60-65 quid maybe a little more. Even sillier disney dollar prices now. Looks like they are gone unless you hand over silly cash (although they can only go up I suppose).

    :(

1,324 hrs on Gary's Mod... christ!

It's a genius move by Steam though. They take a cut of each sale, but they're actually taking it all as the money all stays inside Steam.

    Dear The Last Bandit,

You know you are a bit swish with a soldering iron?

...and you know how you fixed my thingy?

I've decided that you would be a great candidate to install a Famicom RGB board for a nominal fee (and perhaps some beers and a quick, non-threatening yet manly congratulatory handshake).

Do you accept Diners Club or LV vouchers? Green Shield stamps even?

I look forward to hearing from you soon.
