Having some big problems with parcel motel,

I ordered a phone from amazon uk, this day last week. It arrived in parcel motel friday the 1st of Augest and now sign of it since. I have my amazon shipping document, including the full address and my PM id and I have the royal mail tracked service showing it was sent to, and signed for, by parcel motel

I emailed them today about it and they are "looking for it in the warehouse". The guy said it might have come in with no PM id, which i mailed back that it was on the shipping document, havnt heard back from then since

Anyone have a suggestion for the next step? I was going to just post the whole thing up on their facebook page since that might get some more attention because I'm really pissed off over this. Says to wait at least 8 hours before it gets checked in and its been 4 working days now

I could always ring Joe Duffy :P

Hmm, did i ever mention the time i got someone else's delivery in my motel? No joke by the way.

Just got a response from the manager. Because my name wasn't on the parcel it was held in the query area, which is strange because my PM ID is on the package, it will be interesting to see what arrives down and if its been opened or not

Thats 2 incidents in a week now, the first being a poster tube that was cancelled and uncancelled for being oversized and now this.

If it was a random ebay seller or something I wouldnt mind but its from amazon so I'm pretty sure they are spot on with getting the full address on the item they send

    EDIT

    Just like I thought....****ing mauled!

    700881

If the actual phone box is damaged or opened I'll have to get amazon to get onto them and get parcel motel to replace it, so ****ing unprofessional

I got a brand new (valuable) oscilloscope via Parcel Motel today, was a bit nervous after reading the reports here but arrived in perfect condition thankfully - and spared a fortune on shipping costs !!

Went to parcel motel this morning to pick up something and when i opened the locker my parcel was in there, along with someone elses! Wasnt sure what to do and i was half asleep so i took it out. Ive tweeted Parcel Motel asking them what to do with it. This happen to anyone before?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33,733 ✭✭✭✭Myrddin

A few complaints on here about Parcel Motel lately, being able to collect someone elses parcel would put me off using it... I know they're prob isolated incidents, but seems like with things being damaged, opened packages, other peoples parcels in your locker etc that the service is suffering lately.

Price gone up and it seems the service quality has taken a nose dive. I wonder what's going on? Have they used the additional funds to hire more people (who are currently in training and crappy?)

Happened to me ages ago. I rang them and I ended up dropping it back in a motel when I was collecting another package.

The ratio of popularity of the service to budget for decent staff I'd imagine.

    :P

    Not wow.
    much sarcasm
    very pantry
    etc...

I actually haven't been in contact with them by email myself, it's friends of mine who have had problems with the service, one guy was waiting for a full week for a reply even though he had a 1TB hard drive stolen from his package.

(Turned out the package weighed less than it should when PM received it, so it was either the courier amazon used or someone in amazon that stole it.)

But 1 full week to get a reply? Screw that.

He had rang them first and was told to send the pictures in via email btw.

The only time I had a problem was when that brute forced an oversized package into the small locker! :p

Would anyone recommend the x-arcade panel for a setup with a pc and maybe a simple self-made cab down the line? Obviously it eliminates all the wiring down the line which I have no clue about

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,392 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

The wiring is dead easy, honestly i hadnt a clue when i built mine but there is nothing to it. personally i dont think those xarcades look as good as a proper panel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭DinoRex

The music in Shadow of the Beast was probably the best thing along with the Roger Dean art.

That trailer has pretty generic music.

I've seen a few YouTube videos on wiring and it seems easy enough. I'd normally try to avoid anything like that, and at first I thought about buying a 2 player x-arcade controller, but I'd feel quite confident about wiring the panel myself when I get around to putting my own together.

As for the x-arcade, from what I've read about it it seems a bit hit and miss. Some people have no problems with them, some have problems with the buttons after a few weeks/months, some have problems with the sticks. It's a bit of a lucky dip really.

You can buy a jamma harness with the spade connections on it, with an earth wire too and you literally just slide them onto the contacts on the buttons, it takes about 10 minutes. no soldering or anything.

If it's to hook up to a PC/laptop, wouldn't he need an ipac rather than a jamma harness or jpac?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,392 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

Sorry, thought he was going Jamma, you can still buy a loom with the spades anyways and just stick the other ends into the ipac and screw them in, thats what i done on my mame cab. its still easy to do.

Just finished taking an inventory of all my games. I done this before but never bothered to upkeep it making it redundant, so this time I'm gonna stick with it. I've also started compiling 'wanted' lists for different platforms etc, in the hopes it makes my buying less chaotic & more relevant.

I'm using Google Sheets to handle the files (spreadsheet for each system), just curious though, would these files read/writable for me on an Android device via my google account?

    Depends on the value declared?

You could ask the seller to state a low value on the package in future, 2nd hand SNES games are a bit of grey area anyway as the value is totally subjective.

Jesus you're a bundle of fun aren't you!
First it was having "fun" renaming 100s0 of ROMS individually on your bartop and now its and now this!

Yes, just download the Google Sheets app in the play store.
If you have Google drive installed also and go to create new sheet on your android device it will prompt you to download the app too.

Sheets are stored in the newer .xlsx format iirc.

Those files had to be renamed manually, the xml's aren't half as comprehensive as you might think & tie into that they cover only US releases mostly, it involves a lot of manual adding & renaming etc. As for doing this inventory, I've gotten to the stage now where buying duplicates is a concern as I'm never quite sure if I have x game or not. Being able to access my my lists on a phone would be really handy, as I've been caught out a few times over the last while not buying stuff I've seen on shelves thinking I had it when I didn't etc.

So if you wanna make fun, make fun of the fact I'm using an old Nokia phone & badly need to get with the times! :o Now, all I have to do is find a decent but cheap android phone :o

Sweet, cheers. I migrated from Dropbox to Google Drive a while ago & the sheets are stored in 'gsheet' format. Probably not usable on other devices I assume, not without conversion anyway? They launch the web browser & go directly to the data on the cloud when opened.

Moto G ftw, its exactly what youre looking for.
I made the transition from an old Nokia to one a few months back, and oisin did the same recently, the phone is worth more than it sells for.
When you get one you'll wonder how you ever lived without one, very handy for the likes of adverts and getting notified instantly.

Its actually the Quickoffice app that Google ships with stock android that saves in docx and xlxs format by default, my bad.

I figured out how to enable a button in Google Sheets that will let you create a Microsoft spreadsheet ....

That greeen plus down the bottom right will create a gsheets file.

Lol, I suppose that is a bit odd. I think what I said was fun though was adding new systems & seeing the list of available games growing. There's a pretty nice sense of accomplishment when you've fought back against what Hyperspin can throw at you & won. I think I had recently got the Taito Type X system working with HS & was on a bit of a high :o

Nah, don't worry we're not talking Steve SI money here! ;)

It came in 2 versions, the 3G model comes in either 8GB or 16GB internal storage with no SD card slot.

Recently they brought out a 4G model which comes with an SD card slot and 8GB internal storage.

    Current prices:
3G 8GB model on amazon for £100 locked to vodafone uk.
You can get an unlock code on ebay for 2 quid. Same phone is €150 in meteor.

3G 16GB Model sim free / unlocked is £160 on amazon.

Newer 4G model with SD card slot + 8GB internal storage, sim free / unlocked:
£150 from amazon or tesco direct in the uk. €200 in your local argos.

Youre basically getting a 1.2 Ghz quad core, 1GB of RAM, 720p screen phone.

The screen size is 4.5 inch, so the size isnt scary compared to the high end phones, when moving over from your nokia.

Its basically a phone made by google under motorola, comes with stock android and no bloated software or gui, which makes for a nippy android expereince.

There is 3 threads on the moto g on boards, one in bargain alerts, and its a total hit with people, getting bumped daily.
Is that when creating spreadsheets form the phone end? It's no big deal really, just to be able to see the contents of an existing sheet will do me just fine :)

Yeah exactly, youll have no problem viewing.
I think you can convert formats in google docs in your browser, but i cant see a way of converting existing documents with the sheets app, or google drive app...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,105 ✭✭✭Doge

And now I discovered theres rumours of a Moto G 2 coming out with a 5" screen!

    http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/moto-g-2-to-have-5-inch-display

Forgot to mention that tesco have coupons for £10 off your first order and *may* have a coupon for a little more off, so keep your eyes peeled on the bargain alerts thread.
